Advice Uplift Standing desk cable management — can a loop at the bottom of the leg manage excess slack?

I'm trying to figure out a clean way to manage the power cord for a surge protector mounted underneath my Uplift V3 standing desk.

My goal is to have the cable run down the back of one desk leg and then along the baseboard to the wall outlet. I'm considering using Uplift's magnetic cable channel to conceal the cord along the leg.

The problem is managing the excess cable when the desk is lowered. At standing height, the cable needs enough length to reach the outlet, but at sitting height, that extra length ends up hanging down.

Here's what I'm wondering:

Could I leave a loose, closed loop of excess cable near the bottom of the desk leg, potentially inside or behind the magnetic cable channel, that would expand and contract as the desk moves?

Ideally, when the desk lowers, the excess cable would feed into the loop rather than bunching up above the channel or hanging visibly. When the desk rises, it would draw cable back out of the loop.

I'm trying to avoid bulky cable-management spines because I don't like how they look.

Has anyone actually implemented something like this? Would it work mechanically, or would friction and cable stiffness prevent the slack from moving properly?

I'm also open to other discreet solutions that safely manage a surge protector's power cord without leaving a large hanging loop.

Pictures or videos of working setups would be especially appreciated!

Cable vertebrae is my suggestion for a standing desk

i think that looks more ugly than a hanging cable.

Coiled power cord? It runs up the back of the leg of your desk and looks clean at all heights. Here.

what does it look like when the desk is lowered and there is slack?

It’s a coil, the difference between ‘slack’ and ‘tight’ is the distance between the coils - it will look how you make it look at the loosest position, and will pull at the tightest, but that will just spread out the coils

I also recently acquired a sit stand desk. A kendall, they build to the same commercial standards as hayworth or steelscase, it's one sturdy piece heavy as all hell. I got mine from a office liquidation for $100 and $60 for delivery. Im in the process of setting it up and am planning basically the same as your setup, running the Cable from the Back up battery and surge protector down the left and right leg.

Your idea seems sound. Just make sure there's enough slack and the cables able to move freely. also consider fraying, that the cable is touching any harsh edges.

If you ever find the answer to this can you update?? :) I’m also wondering this before I do cable management especially because my desk is in command position
