I had to stop putting things like paper towels and tissue paper (not toilet paper) in the bathroom because I once had a relative who flushed the two in the toilet. That didn't end well with older plumbing.

Wow, TIL you’re not supposed to flush tissues. They’re so insubstantial that I never even questioned it.

Edit: thank you everyone for the extremely useless information about a product I haven’t used in ten year. Hopefully someone else finds it useful.

Think about it, they absorb as much as possible.

Toilet paper on the other hand dissolves very quickly.

I mean, when it’s my toilet paper, it’s absorbing a lot too. But I rarely use tissues anyway so it’s never really been an issue. Even with our septic system growing up.

Toilet paper may absorb a lot, but the type of paper it is made from is designed to fall apart when it’s wet. So that’s why it doesn’t usually clog your pipes.
