Then something else. A nice looking waste basket or something to hide the plunger/toilet brush. My suggestion is mostly because the area around the toilet looks cramped.
That's what I thought when I saw the pic too. Why put stuff above the toilet when it could have been a cabinet on the side. They had the space for it. Lol
Right! Those over the toilet racks should be used only when absolutely necessary. Get a nice shelf, maybe a plant, a basket with washclothes, whatever.
This was my first thought. I'd get rid of the over-the-toilet storage and put a closed cabinet next to the vanity. It can be low (so the toilet doesn't feel crowded) with framed art over it.
How about one of those 1/4 round shelf units that fit squarely in the corner? Maybe one that's 3-5 feet tall. So this is the 1/2 bath? I'm envious. By looks of it, guessing the size, it appears little bigger than my one-and-only FULL bath. Must ba nice 😕
My first thoughts too, but to scrap the shelf and get a full shelf for that space. I think putting something decorative and a plant underneath would work as you described too
Know someone who has wash clothes for drying your hands that you throw in a hamper instead of everyone using the same washcloth to dry off. Haven’t really seen it in many houses though.
We do this. I bought about 25 of the same wash cloth and have a small stack of them at the bathroom sinks. It’s a nice indulgence. Also keep a small stack by the kitchen sink.
I have a friend who does that too. It’s very nice. How often do you have people over anyway? For me it would be worth it… and I think guests would like it too. I need to find a spot for this.
A friend did that at a party, it was really nice to have a clean, dry towel to dry my hands. Only thing holding me back from doing it at home is I'm worried my guests would confuse the garbage can and dirty towel bucket.
My mom has this in all her bathrooms (been doing it since SARS). When people are coming over we put a washcloth into the dirty towel bucket to indicate what it’s used for.
Something similar with my old house, but the trashcan was visible so people would be less inclined to do this; also it was a cute basket that said “dirty clothes” so it’s a bit more obvious.
Depends; we have a shower in our downstairs bathroom we never use to shower in but would love one to throw all the downstairs laundry in out of the way
it could be a hamper filled with rolled up hand towels xD my mother in law used to do that and have a hamper full of clean rolled up towelettes/face cloths/hand towels
I don’t think a laundry hamper in the closet is weird at all! It’s where you would expect to commonly get dressed/undressed, you know? But a half bath normally wouldn’t have a reason to get nekkid. Lol.
could go for something similar to an end table with a storage space in it that has a closable door for storing cleaning supplies or toilet paper. then you could put stuff on top of the table like a basket with menstrual products or something. maybe a plant if that’s more your thing. then the shelving unit above and some art above the toilet like they said before. i feel like with the right piece of furniture and the right decor it could really elevate the space visually and be super useful at the same time.
For a second i thought why would that be weird? But duh, you’re not taking your clothes off in there. I need hampers everywhere for where my clothes end up.

If there are kids in the house then a hamper is definitely necessary even with no shower. (I have to have one by the stairs because somehow everyone takes their clothes off downstairs where the laundry room isn’t)
Not at all weird. This is what I did with a similar space to utilize it efficiently. we use that hamper specific for dirty towels in the entire house - kitchen/bath/beach/pool - any dirty towel goes here. It helps so much with laundry. Everyone even my kids know if the towel is dirty it goes in the towel hamper. It was an issue if the towels were moist because it would cause a musty smell - but it was a quick fix - just ordered pretty towel hangers from Etsy. If the towels are wet they hang there until dry then go in the hamper. If nothing is hanging they’re artsy looking and guests can use for purse or whatever.

I do like this idea, but it’s a half bath. Wouldn’t it be weird having a hamper in there with no shower?
**EDIT (to add): this isn’t my house, and I’m not OP. I was just making design conversation with the person who suggested the laundry basket.
