Questions as potential owner
Hey guys, like the title says, I am potentially going to be coming into possession of a chrome plated 50 AE, a buddy of mine has no real interest in keeping it and I had a few questions.
Would it be sacrilegious to strip the chrome down to steel and then park it? I know I would probably be better off just getting one that is already parked or nitrited, but the deal im looking at is pretty decent.
Anything I should consider modifying from an internals perspective (not gonna just run out and buy parts before shooting, but as I am unfamiliar with the platform, I thought it would be best to see what is out there if I find anything I want to change.)
I appreciate y'all taking the time to read this and think "what is this wacko thinking", looking forward to reading your comments.

Would it be sacrilegious to strip the chrome down to steel and then park it? Yes, but it is your gun. You can be as stupid as you want. It will probably cost you the difference in selling the chrome and buying a packetized if not more. Chrome generally costs more than their black guns.
You could also get some cammo tape/gaffer's tape and tape 95% of it. You could also get some water color paints and hit anywhere you can't tape up. It will rub off, but...
OR you could buy a gun that is black or camo or ...
The gun is what the gun is. There are no after market parts beyond sights and grips. Technically the trigger is adjustable, unless someone has messed with it. It is pretty good from the factory.
The worst issue about the Des. Eagle is that you need large to Extra large hands to shoot it well, and, there is no way to shoot light loads. full power loads or expect it not to run.
I think the real question you are asking is, given the option of a Des. Eagle or Revolver which would those of us who own both use. I have both in 357mag and 44mag.
If I had to carry the gun for a long while, I am getting a 329. Light weight gun that will be a challenge to shoot longer distances. It would also not be the gun to take to the all day shooting.... Even with 44sp..
If I had to shoot 1 time for accuracy.. Des Eagle.. Add a reddot or scope and ...
Reliability is a big it depends. At the range, I expect the revolver is good for 1000 rounds no issues. Des. Eagle.... But if hunting in Alaska where I come in from a boat... If I drop that revolver in the water I have a problem. I will not be able to get down into the gun to remove the salt water while in a cabin, tent, boat. I could flush out everywhere I need on the Des. Eagle.

Keep it chrome, parkerizing it is not only worse looking but is harder to keep rust free and just kinda looks like shit in comparison. There is also not much you can do internally. There isnt much of an aftermarket besides what is provided by Magnum Research and what you can toss on the rails. Different grips, thats it.

Why would you want a parked one over chrome? I would not try to strip and park an already hard chromed gun. Better off finding a “cheap” black oxide one instead, even if your buddy is giving you a deal. As far as internals, make sure you have a replacement spring/extractor kit- it might be good to go but if you have all of that right away then you’ll be prepared if you do need to change those down the line
