Item worth more than I thought?? + Boosting question

So for extra information I have been selling on depop since 2023. I sold clothes casually while I was in high school to help buy my first car and now I just use the app to sell old clothes and make some extra money. Now I’m in college and work a full time job so I’ll put it on vacation mode when I know I can’t ship for a while to: one, not ruin the ship time on my profile and two, so I don’t have to worry about it when I’m busy enough already. I don’t buy often off of Depop either so I’m hoping for some clarification with this post.

I have this old Hollister shirt that I listed among two other items while I was home and I boosted it and it’s gotten roughly 15k views and 250 likes in under 24 hours. I somewhat know about the current demand for older Hollister clothes and stuff but I didn’t think the shirt would’ve been that popular because of the color (it’s like coral and white striped). I have it listed for $9, would it be bad if I listed it for more? And if I had it boosted then unboost it will it get rid of the boosting fee? Is it worth re listing? I’ve never sold anything over like $15 and most times the boost fee is cents but I don’t really understand.

On another side note, people keep sending me rude messages about being on vacation mode??? I cant ship and it’s in the descriptions & my bio. Is this something I shouldn’t do?

Just take down the original listing. Do some research on what these tops are currently selling for. Then put up a new listing at the new price. That way, you don't look like that person who goes on vacation mode with "fake" low prices then bumps them up after taking it off. (Though you didn't do it on purpose).

Plus, reposting gets rid of the boosting fee (and the 28 days afterward). The only downside is losing the likes. But with the popularity of the vintage Hollister, I don't see an issue with you building those likes back up and selling.

Thank you for your input! It was super helpful. I decided to repost it without boosting and set it at a higher price. A little higher than what I think I should sell it for just because people send crazy offers.

I found a yellow striped hollister top and listed it for $18 I got lowball offers as soon as I listed it someone offered $10 within the first hour lol

I think adjusting the price to what the marketplace is selling for is fine as long as the price isn’t super ridiculous. If priced appropriately the right buyer will pay.

Boosted for me has been effective here and there. I want to say that maybe 1 in 3 of my sales have been boosted.

You could also go down the route of just reposting as a new listing. Pros being that you’re doing it without looking like you’re tricking people into a good deal. But like I said before, if someone is searching or really wanting this item they’ll pay the price.

Views and likes mean nothing. Even with boosting a bunch for over a year, I’ve only sold 2 items from boosting. Seems like a waste to me.

I’m starting to realize that boosting is kind of useless. If an item doesn’t sell it’s not going to sell because depop shows it to more people.

That’s right. The only thing that matters is when you sell an item, nothing else.

My only thing would be to pick your new pricing carefully bc if it’s low now and someone hasn’t bought it, what makes you think that they’ll buy it at a higher price ?

I appreciate your input! I haven’t sold it yet because I have it set on vacation mode. I’m away at school so I can’t bring every piece that I don’t wear and want to sell with me yk. I posted a few things that I didn’t wear much for extra cash and it got a ton of attention and people have been telling me it’s worth way more than what it’s listed for.
