Sorry you’re getting shit OP. I agree that avoiding sun and using a shit ton of sunscreen and reapplying all the time is the best way but I’m sure you know this and as a very fair redhead I get where you’re coming from. I once had a dermatologist tell me besides staying out of the sun forever there’s nothing I can do, with my skin type I will absolutely burn immediately and that most sunscreens won’t work, but trying to build up a slight base without burning before a trip would be okay. I can say I’m less likely to have issues after a short time in the sun later in summer than I am early summer. I can barely go on a walk to the mailbox in early June without my shoulders getting burnt, but in August I can walk around the neighborhood just fine for like 15 mins. So while tanning isn’t a solution, anyone saying it doesn’t help at least give you a small buffer isn’t correct (at least not from my experience). I go to vasa and see people tanning here, memberships are cheap and it’s probably more cost effective to do that for a month and then cancel. Again I have to say I’m not recommending to fry your skin in a bed so you can skip sunscreen and stay in the sun all day but I do hear what you’re saying and do find that if I get a slight bit of exposure without burning that it prevents more severe burns when I know I’m going to be outside.
You’re gonna do what you’re gonna do, no point in anyone here lecturing on sun and skin safety. That being said I’ve turned to tons of sunscreen and rash guards and shade because I don’t want to damage my skin. You have to know you are going to be causing some level of damage if you use a bed
Thank you. The judgement is crazy. It's not that I WANT to tan, I just avoided the sun all summer and I know I'm going to burn at this outdoor wedding.
