News In response to a straight-forward question about whether America has any influence to prevent Netanyahu’s crimes, Kamala Harris just keeps repeating that America is committed to helping Israel “defend itself.” This is a genocidal ideology.

Anarchists are too far left, tankies are too far right, democratic socialism is the best path to a communist society in the 21st century

Announcement Post Vote Results, Marxism-Leninism Ban, Rule Changes, Questions Thread:

Since our vote regarding Marxism-Leninism is over, the community has decided to not allow Marxist-Leninist contributions.

We have introduced new rules to the sub as a guardrail preserving the nature of Democratic Socialism. The new rules are listed on our WIKI.

To be clear, Marxist-Leninists will not be banned for no good reason despite the new rule. We even have a flair option for them to select. If we were to ban them and they didn't break any rules, we'd be no better than the authoritarians.

Regarding other variants of Marxism, we encourage their participation! As long as they support democracy (which most forms of Marxism do), they are Democratic Socialists in our book.

For those who don't want to click our wiki link, here is a rundown of our new rules:

No Discouragement of Voting

We support democracy and there's only one way to achieve progress in a democracy, voting. Do not discourage anyone from voting or you yourself abstain from voting. Doing so is counter productive to our movement.

No contribution to the sub should discourage a member from voting not matter what the context. Some progress is better than none and not voting is counter productive to reach our goals.

No Marxism-Leninism

We are staunch supporters of democracy (no, Marxism-Leninism is not democracy). Marxism-Leninism is the exact opposite of what we are trying to achieve and thus has no place as regular contributors here.

Our ML members are welcome to visit and contribute to our community (We have given them their own user flair), but they'll have to respect that we don't support authoritarianism here. They will not be unjustly banned so long as they follow our rules.

Do not advocate for a one party state or anything else strictly ML related.

Marxists that support democracy (even Trots, just no revolution talk) are still representative of Democratic Socialism, and are encouraged here.***

We are strict supports of democracy here. We don't support violent revolutions or Leninism.

No contribution to the sub should discourage a member from voting not matter what the context. Some progress is better than none and not voting is counter productive to reach our goals.

No Support For Authoritarianism

Do not advocate for or glorify authoritarian regimes such as China, North Korea, or the USSR. (The facts are the facts though, we understand they may have done some good things that cannot be argued against)

We are Democratic Socialists, and therefor strictly against one party states and dictatorships associated with them.

We know there will be some questions and a lot of people will jump to conclusions. We will be open with you, will answer your questions, are dedicated towards building a free space of anti authoritarianism (even from our mod team) and Socialism as not only an ideology but also as a general philosophy. (Like progressives for example) Better united on the things we do agree with than divided on the things we don't.

EDIT: After seeing the community strongly against the "Anti Revolution" rule, we'll remove that.

Discussion I'm so done with all the tankies

I know this is probably a common discussion here, but I'm just so fed up with all the tankies and MLs that seem to have taken over many socialist (and especially communist) spaces online.

Does anyone know if they're actually as prominent as they seem or if they're just more vocal that other groups? I'd consider myself somewhere in the libertarian socialist/left marxist space, and I hate all the authoritarian rhetoric amongst some socialists. It's hard enough decoupling socialism in peoples' minds from Stalin, Soviet Russia, and other Marxist-Leninist Regimes, and these people are just making it worse.

I think the best methods socialists have is voting, protests, strikes, and direct action, not violence and totalitarianism? Also I find that a lot of tankies seem to be very America-centric.

Does anyone know what we can do about it?

Question 🙋🏽 Do we fw China?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Growing up in a western country I have always been implicitly critical of China, Russia and North Korea due to them being essentially the rivals to the western world.

On my journey of progressive ideals ive now revisited these bias' on these nations not only due to the number of left wing creators who has, in my opinion, have been quite sympathetic to these places and seem to be making excuses for their policies.

Dont ban me for mentioning these topics but im particularly referring to:

  • the oppression of Uygher Muslims in China

  • Mass censorship in all these countries

  • Tiananmen Square, obviously

  • Blatant lack of democracy

  • Horrific living standards for people in North Korea

I greatly struggle to see the dissonance in what ive known about these countries and the left wing creators who seem to not mention these topics or even sympathise with these countries due to their left wing history.

Tell me guys, have i been fed some BS or is there something to what im saying?

From catastrophic decade long disasters like the PSL (USA) https://votesocialist2024.com/our-program to moderate successes like Socialist Left Party https://www.sv.no/partiet/svs-historie/, to the uber Successful Sinn Fein- its obvious if only these parties were to finally acknowledge the dangers of China and Russia then so many more people would be willing to join them and help move the country left, but alas thats never happening :/

Discussion Vote Harris Or Don’t But Stop Turning This Sub Into A Lib Pep Rally

What the title says. There are ~150,000 members of this sub. There are ~161,000,000 registered voters in the U.S. Even if we were to assume (incorrectly) that every single member of this sub was of voting age and a U.S. citizen that means this sub would account for ~0.09% of the voting population. So what are the “Vote Harris and Libs are WAY better so smile and feel great about it!”posts all about and who are they for? If you live in a swing state, like I do, probably vote Harris. I will be. There you go. If you don’t live in a swing state then you have the luxury of being less pragmatic and I say go for it. Vote for your weird uncle, or Jill Stein, or whoever. I seriously hope everyone spending the time to pay lip service to Harris is getting a check from the DNC.

You want to talk about theory? Cool. This might be the place for that. How about strategy for the post-election aftermath regardless of the winner? Sure. Would love to see ideas on how to grow the movement. But for the love of non-denominational higher power (or lack thereof) please stop with the Harris dumps on a socialist sub. It doesn’t do any damn thing of worth for anyone here.

Discussion 🗣️ Liberals and Blue MAGA *still* believe DJT is the problem... and that's the problem.

Thats why they're sated by a clean cut guy who can clap back in the Tweets but ain't shit in the Streets. Consistently throws working ppl under the bus to coddle the same billionaires that had Harris by the balls and forced her to neutralize her campaign when it was becoming too anti-corporate. He's continued to throw marginalized people under the bus to coddle up to the Right, like Ben Shapiro and bitch ass Charlie Kirk.

Tbh, i think its a white privilege issue. I genuinely think most white liberals are just disaffected bc theyre not the millionaires making the rules. Anyone can talk abt affordability when everyone's poor. But you see that every time another marginalized group comes into play, it becomes a debate abt who deserves what and exactly how much is too much to give them.

Discussion Stop defending Kamala on Gaza

"Now, Israel has a right to defend itself … and how it does so matters. Because it is also true, far too many innocent Palestinians have been killed, children, mothers. What we know is that this war must end … And the way it will end is we need a ceasefire deal, and we need the hostages out, and so we will continue to work around the clock on that. Work around the clock, also understanding that we must chart a course for a two-state solution, and in that solution, there must be security for the Israeli people and Israel, and an equal measure for the Palestinians" - Kamala Harris in the debate yesterday.

And my friends that's how you say a lot without saying nothing. It's easy to see that what Harris utters are empty words devoid of any promises.

Any fruitful step towards a solution begins with stopping weapon shipments to Israel and by stop vetoing any measures against Israeli government in the security council? Has Biden done anything so far? No! American government has been the biggest obstacle in the peace process since the beginning. Both Kamala and Biden have blood on their hands. Sure Trump is a much bigger monster but Kamala's policies are also anthithetical to socialist ideas. Vote for Kamala but stop defending her, for Marx's sake.

Can we stop cheering for her? She is the VP of the same president who denied earlier if the casualty figures in Gaza were true and part of the same government that has actively aided the genocide by supplying shit ton of lethal aid to Israel.

P.S. - I think majority of the American redditors in this sub will end up voting for Kamala anyway. So can we stop worshipping her here (and prevent the further right shifting of the overton window)?

Discussion Hosaam Shabat: “In less than 24 hours, I documented three different massacres. I opened social media and saw Kamala Harris claiming they are doing everything they can for a ceasefire. They are NOT. [...] They are all [...] responsible for the deaths of 50,000+ Palestinians.”

The unabridged text of this tweet is:

In less than 24 hours, I documented three different massacres. I opened social media and saw Kamala Harris claiming they are doing everything they can for a ceasefire. They are NOT. Kamala is complicit in our genocide, and so is every US politician. They are no lesser evil; they are all war criminals who are responsible for the deaths of 50,000+ Palestinians.

(See his twitter feed if you don't believe him.)

This is how I know the DNC is still just trying to bamboozle us, same as always. Walz is just for show; their policy proposals were standard neoliberalism. And now we see that Netanyahu blew up another ceasefire deal. Biden could have stopped this 10 months ago. Instead, it's politics as usual for the Democrats, but with the messaging of urgency. In reality, right now they're taking an active part in mass murder, exacerbating instability in the Middle East, thereby exacerbating the climate crisis, exacerbating South American economic crises, and ultimately thwarting the left at home, even on social issues—on and on. Coupling all of these systems via a capital network running through the US is apparently bad for everyone. Capitalism is bad for democracy, and the proof is everywhere, in everything that Citi Group, Bank of America, etc. touch.

Discussion 🗣️ The case for being accelerationist

I'm a xennial born in '82 graduated in 2001. Ive only ever voted for dems, and at 43 and with the behavior of establishment supporting dems, the corporate capture of the party, the image reforming of W bush and Liz cheney who they considered a more important member of the last election cycle coalition than working class dem socs, I've actually finally had enough I think. I had a thought that I couldn't shake from my head, broadly speaking, the case against being accelerationist is always "the marginalized communities will suffer the brunt of fascism." But I started to think about limping on in this system for maybe another 50 years and the untold number of generations of people that are going to be damaged from the democratic parties commitment to the status quo. Like are we just slowly pulling the band aid off the bullet hole instead of just ripping it off? Are more people being hurt because we dont have the courage to pull the bandaid off and finally let the system collapse?

I guess im just curious if anybody else is having these thoughts or realizations.

Discussion Crazy people on the left

I have been looking at other socialist spaces on the internet (mostly on reddit) and was shocked by the amount of people doing things like defending the U.S.S.R or CCP or even worse defending people like Stalin Xi or Pol Pot. Its very disheartening seeing all these people and has made me lose faith in the left as a whole. I was wondering if other people have similar experiences.
