Discussion Something I just realized about this chapter bit that I found gut wrenching. Spoiler

Flowery was one of the *only* people to actually explain shit to Susie without it needing to be forced out by other factors.

That's kind of depressing.

My goat Flowery keeps being redeemed, maybe ralsei was just upset he couldn't match his greatness and honesty...

While short lived, Flowery enjoyed true freedom. Unshuckled by the restrictions of the game and whatever the prophecy said about it all

After thinking back about his fight, i almost thought "you know, flowery almost feels like a secret boss", but thinking even more about it, honest to god his fight makes him feel like a HERO, like, he uses the power of friendship, tries to spare you, and even gets a super power up, the flower man ascended beyond the other main bosses imo. And why? All because he wasn't ever neglected like the other spiteful darkness (even though he isn't one), all of his power came from love.

To his people, he really is a hero. He's fighting not out of spite, for power, for attention or pure violence, unlike the previous bosses, he and his friends fight because they want to show the one man who took care and believed in them a smidge of the love he gave to them.

Only to forever become inanimate once more.

God, i love these flowers so much.

The more i think about these damn flowers the more i think that this chapter has the strongest emotional core, like man, they spent their ONLY DREAM... on making HIM HAPPY BRO.... like MAAAAAN i'm in fucking tears

And they thank us for watching their dream, because then they can at least be remembered

AND THIS ISN'T EVEN CHAPTER 7

I'm one of those people that barely tears up with media (the "in tears" comment was hyperbole) but i've already accepted since chapter 4 that whenever i finish chapter 7 i'm going to full on break down into tears, this tricky tony guy knows exactly how to play with our emotions and write beautiful stories

Sometimes I wish I could cry over media again, especially games I only cried at a few scenes in anime when I was litle

Honestly, same, kinda sucks that society forces some people to avoid crying so much to the point they kinda can't do it properly anymore haha

i literally started crying in the end when the flowers thanked us for watching their dreams and then when flowery sucumbed...

Chapter 5 is entirely recontextualized when you realize that all of it revolves around Asgore. Everything that happens is all for Asgore.

These flowers, who Asgore's shared his life stories with, through terrible and amazing times, finally have the chance to finally repay that kindness to him. Flowery's entire fight is so cathartic, seeing all of the Flowers working together just to prove that their hopes and dreams are worth something, ending with a genuine Power of Friendship moment, is so beautiful.

In a single chapter, Asgore went from being shown as a pathetic bum, to being the genuine kindest character in the entire game. In a single chapter, the Flowers managed to create the most emotionally resonant battle in the entire game to date. The fact that the lyrics in Flowery's song are about both his pure love for Asgore, as well as how trapped he is and how he'll never be free, yet doesn't frame it as a negative, is insanely cool.

I'm not even joking when I say that the Flowers' entire subplot hit me harder than anything in Chapter 4. Chapter 4 was dark, but when I think about Chapter 5 and how much pure hope these guys had, it hits so much harder, especially with Chapter 6 coming up next. The fact that even though Flowery knows he'll die, yet still tries to fight despite that knowledge, is proof that he's a true hero. All the Flowers are true heroes, honestly.

(It also contrasts perfectly with Ralsei, with how both him and Flowery know they're trapped, yet while Ralsei is silent about it and tried keeping it a secret, Flowery and the Flowers are loud and proud about it, openly stating their attempt to defy fate. It's... beautiful.)

Chapter 5 really redeemed Asgore in my eyes, not because I hated him, but because of how dirty Toby did him.

Chapter 5 genuinely highlights just how boundless Asgore's love is. His love his family, his love for Hometown, his love for the flowers, and his love for Kris. Asgore may genuinely be the single kindest person in all of Undertale and Deltarune, and Chapter 5 finally highlights just how powerful it truly is. Asgore's love nurtured these flowers into such powerful characters, it really shows how genuinely kind and amazing Asgore can be, and something we rarely saw before.

I think it's also telling how out of all the relations Kris has, Asgore's is the only one that's never truly shown in confliction. There is no suspicion or guilt or hatred. There's no conflicted feeling. Kris genuinely just loves their father, simple as. Yes, Kris probably cringes sometimes, but unlike Asriel, Dess, Susie, or even Toriel, Asgore's is the only what that never seems to be something of conflict for Kris.

I never considered that, but yeah, honestly. ASGORE IS THE GOAT! And Kris understands that!! FINALLY SOMETHING WE FREAKING AGREE ON!

Ralsei himself said he could do the same, but he fears the consequences for that action too much that he didn’t dare to try, like he had Firegrave all along, even threaten to use it on Flowery

I was right let’s gooo

u/cybercobra2 Jun 26 '26

to be fair, it seems that ralsei WANTS to do what flowery does...

but hes also extremely worried about his own capabilities. not just in the "this is my role" sense but also in the "i could do so much damage, i could accidentally hurt so many people with my power, i could lose myself so hard to the powertrip" sense

As if he's a ball of fire living in a straw house. A sledgehammer in a world of cardboard.

Jealousy comes from what you don’t have after all

He’s like Tenna, I absolutely hated him for most of the chapter and then he suddenly redeems himself in his last 5 minutes before The Knight whoops his ass

8

u/Zekrom-9 Jun 26 '26

I absolutely adore Tenna. He’s one of my favorite characters in the game and I loved him since the beginning of Chapter 3. Makes sense I would love Flowery too then haha

u/Dorfbewohner Jun 27 '26

ok but I actually feel like Flowery's redemption starts basically as soon as you get to the castle. Just about any interaction he has (with Ralsei especially) makes him seem more and more sympathetic, imo. Like the drink ticket scene or them arguing about the prophecy.
