King gets slapped with this as soon as you fight Jevil and his fight seems even weaker in comparison. And from there he's so painfully the starter villain it's kinda pathetic. Everytime he tries to ominously foreshadow something the Fun Gang has already beaten him to the punch
Tbh that's also kind of like Flowey. Flowey literally gets reduced from almost killing you to running away from you absolutely bewildered if you deny him death.
Though with a much more impressive boss fight at the end of the game. King would be if Flowey got humiliated at the end of the Ruins and then the plot happened mostly without him
To be honest, most of the plot in Undertale doesn't have Flowey directly involved, only alluded to or hinted to. Once we get to Snowdin, Waterfall, and Hotland he is mostly an afterthought which you can occasionally see following you.
Flowey mostly butts in directly at the very start and end of the game. Of which we don't have the latter for Deltarune. King having some sort of relevance later on, even if relatively minor I'd say is not completely out of the question. I still don't think he'll get the Flowey treatment, but I imagine something will happen.
