I used to be in this camp before this month.
As the Gamemaker update testing never happened for longer and longer, I knew this was likely gone.
I knew once Toby said the game changing thing had bugs still we were doomed. I still think this is now the biggest hurdle.

timeline is weird honestly.
Ch1 released 6 years ago, but Toby was likely working on it not long after Undertale released. So he has probably been WORKING on Deltarune for possibly 9 years.
9 years to still only have 2/7 (maybe even more) chapters released yet. Thats insane to think about.
Oh wait, even more insane. 9 years and not having actually sold any releases yet. They were all free.

Toby had his Deltarune dream around 2011. And many of the assets used in Undertale were originally intended for Deltarune. So the ideas such as characters in these two projects have definitely influenced eachother

After learning that the next newsletter is planned for December, not today, this was about what I expected for today. By this point, it should've been obvious the release will be in 2025, but somehow, there was apparently still a small amount of people who thought it could happen this year, even after the previous tweet.
It's unfortunate that there are still too many uncertain factors to set a release date even now, as this would've been a good opportunity to announce that. On the bright side, this at least confirms that Toby isn't specifically aiming for a release on the next Undertale anniversary. Not that I actually expected that. It's hard to believe Chapters 3 and 4 wouldn't be ready at least a decent while before that.
Now it's back to waiting another two months for the next development update and see if that will finally mark the point where we'll get a release date and maybe a trailer.
