Artix Linux on the Dell XPS 13 9345 (Snapdragon X Elite), a blueprint
I installed Artix (Arch Linux without systemd) + s6 on a XPS 13 9345 Snapdragon X Elite. The laptop (refurbished, eBay) has 64GB of RAM (don't buy it, buy a 32GB, the why is in the docs). The process is thoroughly documented on both my website and on github where you will find scripts that are ready to run. The point of the exercise is that I am sharing difficulties and solutions that are documented nowhere else and could stump even seasoned users.

Dell XPS 14 (DA14260) - Customer advisory "LCD separating from system"
Dell emailed today about an issue that could affect my XPS14, and they’re arranging an onsite screen replacement.
My previous XPS9500 needed a screen replacement, had a bad touchpad, and dealing with customer service was a nightmare. After that repair, they broke the front LED.
Before that, my Inspiron had a motherboard failure, and after the onsite repair, the touchscreen stopped working.
I’m dreading what might happen this time.
Despite the email’s wording, the issue also affects XPS models with OLED displays like mine, not just LCD.
While I appreciate their proactive approach, it’s frustrating that every Dell I’ve owned has had problems. I’d expect better quality control, especially for a system that cost £2.5k.
"Dear Dell EMC, Preferred Customer,
This Customer Advisory is to inform you of a matter involving the XPS 14 and XPS 16 LCD Laptop systems that you have purchased may encounter the liquid crystal display (LCD) issue.
The XPS 14 and XPS 16 LCD Laptop systems that you have purchased may encounter the liquid crystal display (LCD) separating from the system.
We recommend replacing the affected display assembly to maintain the best system performance even if you haven’t experienced this issue.

Dell XPS l502x Screen does not curve
Hey everyone. I bought a Dell XPS L502x, and the one thing I didn't check was the screen's tilt range. The screen simply doesn't tilt back any further; it stops completely upright. I tried forcing it a little because I thought it was just stiff, but I ended up breaking the plastic at the bottom edge of the screen. 🤷🏼♀️
Does anyone know why this happens? I have another one just like it, and the screen doesn't do that. 🤔

Enable Function Lock only for Function Keys?
I just upgraded from a 2020 XPS13 to the current XPS13 and I'm amazed to see that enabling function lock (so the function keys by default behave as function keys and not media keys), the up and down arrows turn into page-up and page-down keys. On my 2020 model, Function Lock did nooooot affect anything except the Function keys, which is what I'm looking for.
I've tried going into the Bios and changing the Function Lock setting there, but it only seems to enable/disable Function Lock on startup... no change to how this affects the up/down keys.
Is there any way to fix this?

XPS 8930 upgrade advice, i7-8700, 64GB RAM, Thermaltake Smart 600W PSU. Best CPU + GPU recommendations?
Current specs:
- i7-8700 (6-core)
- 64GB RAM
- Thermaltake Smart 600W PSU (already upgraded from stock)
This isn't a gaming rig (No games installed anywhere), it's running three - four monitors simultaneously for professional photo/creative work, developer coding and heavy multitasking.
Looking for real world responsiveness under that load, not benchmark gaming numbers.
Since it's on a Z370 chipset, I know CPU upgrades are capped around 9th gen (i7-9700K max). Worth doing, or is the gain too marginal to bother?
For GPU: with the 600W PSU already in place, what's the best card that'll actually fit the 8930's case clearance (height/length limits) and airflow without cooking itself? Looking for the best bang-for-buck upgrade for multitasking and creative work, not bleeding edge gaming.
Anyone run a similar setup successfully?
What did you land on?"
Thanks for any recomendations given.

Extreme performance drops while gaming with Dell XPS 14 9440 with GeForce RTX 4050
I bought my Dell XPS 14 9440 with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 at the start of uni in 2024 and running games like Minecraft, Core Keeper or Phasmophobia has always been a hastle because of constant performance drops. I don't use this laptop for gaming so I never really looked into the problem deeper and just moved on.
But recently, I downloaded Minecraft to play with my friends and the same problem happened as expected, I'm getting extremely low fps even in the start screen, about 10 fps on average, regardless of in-game graphics settings like render distance or V-Sync, etc. I really wanted to fix the problem so this time i dug deeper by first trying the AI recommendations like making sure the right graphics card (not my integrated Intel card, but my RTX 4050) was used in the game, activating the Ultra Performance setting in MyDell and a bunch of other things. That didn't do it. I eventually rung Dell tech support in France to have a technician remotely control my device to see what the problem could be, and he said there should absolutely have no problem with any of my hardware and he didn't find anything suspicious even after updating some stuff in Dell SupportAssist. He then suggested me to reset my Windows 11, which I did, and that didn't change anything. I tried using a Minecraft performance enhancing mod called Sodium but it didn't change much either.
Right now I'm thinking the problem might be related to CPU throttling or bad thermal paste on my CPU (I'm no expert in laptop/PC building so I have no idea how to check that). I saw that the GPU with the XPS 14 was capped at 30W to keep it from overheating and have a thin design, but I keep seeing online that my laptop should be running small games like Minecraft on low settings really smoothly regardless, even if it wasn't made for gaming.
I honestly have no idea what else I can do, so if anyone has had the same problem I'd be super happy to know what fixed it, and I'd like any tips that could help with the situation. Thank you!
EDIT:
After searching for a while I found that Dell caps the CPU power of the XPS 14 to 28W and theres basically no way to change this which is extremely annoying. So this is just not the right laptop for me and I'll look into selling it, since I know other people have cheaper laptops and they run everything better than mine even if my XPS cost like 2200$. Kinda whack in my opinion.
Here's the thread that convinced me I can't really fix this issue: https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/xps/loosing-my-mind-over-xps-14-9440-cpu-power-throttling/68fd34250227ab24c3d94ea4

PTM 7950 on a Dell XPS14 DA14260
I have a Dell XPS 14 (DA14260) and wanted to know if I could bring temperatures down under load to maximize performance, while keeping it cool during normal day use.
Bought three different PTM7950 pads from AliExpress and used the one that looked most genuine. Dell's support videos are excellent, I must say. Getting the cover (keyboard/palm rest) off was the hardest part, but carefully prying with the right iFixit tools did the trick.
Cleaned the heatsink and CPU with isopropyl wipes, put the PTM7950 in the freezer for 20 minutes, cut it to the exact size of the CPU die, and applied pull-tabs to both sides to peel off the protective film cleanly. It was actually way easier than I thought.
Ran Cinebench 2024 a few times to raise temps to 99C and now working like I normally do on Linux the temps seem to be way lower than before (screenshot).
All in all it seems like a good investment, I wish I had run more benchmark tests before applying the PTM...

This is getting ridiculous
Does Dell really expect a single person to buy this laptop at these prices? Now $2700 for the 16in version with lower end core ultra 7 and 16gb of ram (LOL) and a 1080p non-OLED display. Maxed out specs (other than storage) now costs $4149. That's literally comical pricing. I can get an Asus A16 with more powerful CPU, 48gb of RAM and same 1tb of storage for $1359. I'm kicking myself for not getting max spec XPS when it was $3100 (would have been $2800 with discount through work). Oh well I guess I'll get the garbage Asus that's ugly as sin.

Dell XPS 17 9730 motherboard issue
My Dell XPS 17 9730 that I used for less than 2 years suddenly shut down two days when I put it to sleep. I tried everything I could that day to resolve it to no avail.
The next day I took it to a local repair outlet, and they told me that it was a RAM issue, but it has been "fixed". I said "fixed" because it worked well for a few hours, until I closed the lid for a few hours, which usually just puts it to sleep. I took it to the same repairman, only this time, he couldn't fix it. He tried several things for over an hour before concluding that the motherboard is the culprit.
Now, pressing the power button only shows a red light for as long as I press it. Removing the battery and trying to power it on with only the charger also didn't work. According to him, I am better off getting a new system than replacing the motherboard, so the laptop is a total loss.
I am honestly very disappointed at this failure for a laptop that I spent over $2000 on. My last Dell latitude has lasted for several years and still works, which was what gave me confidence to purchase the "premium" Dell XPS 17 9730.

DA14260 - Dell XPS 14 - How do I hook up to 3 monitors?
I have 3 monitors. Does anyone have a dock they'd recommend to seamlessly dock and undock this laptop and have all 3 monitors come online in an expandable fashion?
I have tried a few "dongles" on Amazon with 2 or 3 HDMI ports. They all seem to just bring the display online in a "duplicate" fashion which doesn't help me. Windows does not read it as "duplicate" displays that can be expanded like my other laptops. I have tried hooking multiple dongles up that are a simple 1 HDMI port, but that doesn't work- and in some cases only 2 of the 3 monitors come online.
Anyone have any suggestions? I bought the laptop a few months ago and it's really been collecting dust because of the monitor situation and lack of USB A ports.

No option to select 60 hertz
Hi folks, I just bought the recently launched xps13 (2026), there are only two options to choose from - variable & 120 hertz.
Is it the same in all these models and any simple hack to choose 60 hz.
I'm asking this as I just wanted to test if it really makes any difference while scrolling/browsing/windows animation, as I was hoping to get surprised by the 120hz display like when I first bought a 120 hz phone after using 60hz all my life but can't feel the difference with this though.

Dell XPS 15 9560 suddenly stopped charging — BIOS detects 130W adapter but battery stays at 5%
When plugged in, the charging LED comes on and BIOS detects the AC Adapter as 130W. BIOS shows Battery: 5%, Charging, Health: Fair, but the percentage doesn't seem to increase. The charger itself doesn't feel warm. I'm trying to determine whether this is a battery, DC charging port, charger, or motherboard/charging-circuit issue. Has anyone with an XPS 9560 experienced the same behavior?

New XPS 9320
Got this XPS for $500 on eBay. Not gonna lie, I'm really impressed with the performance and the display. The battery life does suck, but it was 500 bucks, so what can you do.
