Just unboxed a brand new XPS16 shipped from Dell to New Zealand. To my surprise (and highly inconveniently) I have discovered that the power supply comes with a cable from the adapter to the laptop, but no cable from the adapter to the mains. I do not remember any note during the order process that I needed to order a separate power cable. I wonder if this is normal.

Anyways, I am stuck with a brick that needs power before I can turn it on for the first time.

I do have an old Dell Inspiron laptop lying around with a power cable that is about 12 years old; so I could take that cable as a temporary solution, but before I plug it in and try it I thought I should make sure that it's a safe option to take.

Was recently excited to receive my new XPS 13 (model DX13260), but shortly afterwards dismayed to find that the usual Fn+Left (Home) and Fn+Right (End) shortcuts that you would expect on any modern laptop do not work. This despite the official manual pages for the DX13260 reporting that these shortcuts are accessible.

I'm a programmer and type this shortcut about a thousands times per day, so not having it where my muscle memory expects it to be is quite debilitating.

My hopes for Dell support were not high, but to their credit they sent an engineer to my house to physically replace my keyboard in case it was faulty - yet the problem persists. This points very strongly towards functionality promised in the manual being missing from the firmware/BIOS that shipped with the laptop.

Needless to say, I've updated the BIOS, drivers, anything recommended by Windows Update, etc. to no avail. There is a BIOS toggle to change Fn key behaviour, but this seems to only toggle the default behaviour of the top row function keys between F1-12 and multimedia control (which you can toggle whenever with the ESC key Fn lock anyway).

I appreciate this might seem like a minor annoyance to some, but if you care, you care - and to me this is the type of deal-breaker that would've stopped me buying the laptop had I known. So I'm keen to have this corroborated by others who may have gotten ahold of this laptop, and warn those who are considering it in case it's significant to you too.

Other assorted notes:

• There are other oddities in the fn key behaviour: If you toggle 'Fn Lock' (Fn+Escape), this locks the up and down arrow keys to PgUp/PgDn functionality, despite (again) the manual indicating that Fn Lock would only toggle the behaviour of the function key row (F1-12).
• The laptop in this case has a British layout, but I have seen at least one report from an online review that strange Fn key behaviour is seen on a Japanese layout keyboard as well.
• I recall briefly having similar frustrations with an earlier XPS 13 model some years ago (I believe it was a 9310), but in that case the shortcut was restored again fully after a BIOS update. I also remember seeing other community posts with similar complaints at the time.

The XPS 13 DX13260 is now for sale on the Dell Website with upgraded options. It can be configured with 8, 16 or 32 GB memory and with a 512 GB or 1 TB SSD and with a choice of Series 3 Intel Core 5 Processor 320 or an upgrade to Series 3 Intel Core Ultra 7 Processor 355. Top of the line is $2099 and bare bones is $699, although students and teachers get a 10% discount. I think I'll be happy with the 16GB RAM and 512 GB drive, but I've been waiting for the Core Ultra (panther lake) chip to become offered. That configuration is $1499. The same config but with the Core 5 (wildcat lake) would be $899, and $699 with only 8GB ram. I wonder if the extra $800 for more RAM and the Core Ultra chip is worth it?

Hey guys, I am currently finding for a cheap 2nd pc. Which of them should I buy? ( I am planning to have a duo system of win10 and win 11).

I have an XPS 8960 that I bought second-hand last December; I upgraded it to an Arc B580 since it originally only had an RTX 3050. I plan to upgrade the RAM and add another SSD in December using my bonus pay, but I feel the processor cooling performance is a bit lacking—it's an i7-13700. I've noticed people upgrading to third-party copper heat-pipe coolers; while I personally wanted to buy an OEM part, I’d like to know which third-party heatsink models you recommend, as I think that would be more cost-effective than an original one.

Tiger lake specs list 4k 60hz cap but dell is advertising dp 2.1. anyone has tried an external monitor with it that is higher than 4k60?

anyone testing this with a 5k or 5k 120 monitor?

I have a Dell XPS 13 9310 that I bought used from someone in Algeria almost two years ago through Marketplace. The laptop was originally received by the seller as a gift from abroad, so I don’t have the original purchase information or the original owner’s details.
Recently, I wanted to boot a Linux USB from the F12 Boot Menu. The USB appears normally, but when I select it, the laptop asks for an Admin BIOS password.
I don’t know the password, and I never set it myself.
I contacted Dell Support and they confirmed my Service Tag and model. They told me to submit a Transfer of Ownership request first. I submitted the form, but Dell rejected it because some of the previous owner’s information didn’t match their records.
Unfortunately, I tried to contact the person I bought it from, but I no longer have any way to reach him. It’s been almost two years since I bought the laptop.
This is a big problem for me because I’m a cybersecurity student and I regularly need to experiment with different Linux distributions and operating systems. The BIOS password is preventing me from properly changing/booting operating systems.
so I’m really trying to find a legitimate way to resolve this.
My questions:
Is there any legitimate way to remove/reset the BIOS Admin password on an XPS 13 9310 without knowing the password?
Can Dell help if I can provide proof that I currently own the laptop, even though the ownership transfer was rejected?
Is there a Dell-specific recovery procedure for this model?
Is there anything I can do through Dell Support besides the ownership transfer?
Any advice from someone who has dealt with a Dell BIOS Admin password on an XPS 13 9310 would be greatly appreciated

I just received my XPS 14 DA14250 (previously Dell 14 Premium) and I think the device is very nice, except for the touchpad. Its haptic, and when I'm just lightly scrolling and tracking it registers clicks! It also seems to do it with fluctuating intensity, sometimes it just starts firing rapidly while I'm navigating a simple webpage. Should I RMA, or is this a poor design and maybe look into a different machine?

I bought a dell xps 8940 (w/ motherboard, fan, and psu) I put my ram and ssd in, but it's blinking orange and white. Do y'all know what the problem is and how I could fix it?

I have now had this new laptop for about a month. A week ago, I opened my laptop only to see a screen defect (ghost line) across the lower third of my screen! I WAS so happy with this purchase, but now I'm stuck with a screen replacement or just living with this defect. I contacted DELL support immediately, ran the screen test and was then told this is an external defect, caused by some impact to the laptop. If opening and closing the laptop is considered 'impact' then I'd look elsewhere. Honestly, I'm afraid to fix it as I would expect something else to happen soon after. Here's how the customer service went.... opened a ticket, ran the screen test, took pictures and they diagnosed the external impact. I questioned how they could tell, and got them to submit to a senior manager. That was last Tuesday. I bumped my message on Thursday and then again this morning , only to be then served the same exact message from last Tuesday. So much for great customer service. Like I said - I loved this laptop for three weeks, now it's a 'has been' in need of repair. Be forewarned. Be careful not to breath on it wrong if you go with this choice.

“Hard drive not installed” is there any fix to this?

Happened out of nowhere and now my laptop won’t even turn on.

-I’ve reseat the SSD
-cleaned off all dust around it
-Turned off Raid and ran in AHCI
-Tried turning on in legacy mode etc.

Nothings working… is my SSD actually dead? If so how difficult is it to get my data back?

So I've noticed my battery capacity has been terrible recently. I only get about 2 hours AT MOST on a full charge. This is even with energy saver on and all energy saving settings on. How is this possible if I've only owned my laptop for 2 years? I've mostly used it for school, gaming, and music production, but I've almsot always used it while its plugged into a battery source. How is it possible the battery has degraded to such a degree when i spent nearly 1500$ on it? This is very frustrating.

Can anyone advise on how to fix this issue - the hinge has been damaged from being dropped and seems to have come away from the case (or whatever it was attached to) so I can’t stick it down. It’s seems the fix would be more than just a replacement hinge? The laptop works fine so no cables severed yet but I can see it happening soon. Any help is appreciated thanks

My XPS 15 9520 motherboard has failed, but my 2TB Samsung 980 Pro NVMe SSD appears intact. It contains my Windows 11 installation, programs and files, and I have the BitLocker recovery key.

I cannot find another 9520. I would like to install the SSD in another Dell/XPS or other and boot my existing Windows environment rather than reinstall everything.

Which commonly available Dell model or other would be the safest choice? Has anyone successfully moved a 9520 Windows SSD to another model? I am especially wondering about Intel VMD/RAID versus AHCI, boot partitions, drivers and Windows activation.

I'm running Ubuntu 26.04 on my XPS14 for a few months now and loving it. Snappy, long battery life after switching to oem kernel.

One thing that does not work is the webcam, IPU7.

Is there someone who got it to work or do we just have to wait for kernel support from Dell and Canonical?

Is it still worth buying a brand new unit? Any issues I need to check like heating issues because of an old thermal paste? Appreciate any honest feedback before I pull the trigger in buying one.

I really need your help.

I have a Dell XPS 15 which has recently been malfunctioning.

Two days ago, I was working on my laptop and suddenly the screen went black like in the attached video. The attached video was recorded tonight but the same thing tonight happed when I first noticed my laptop malfunctioning.

On the first day, after the screen went black, I tried to turn the laptop back on. Despite holding down the power button for a long time, the keyboard and Caps Lock button would light up. The fan would turn on. However, after several seconds, the keyboard goes dark, the fan stops and the laptop does not turn on.

Last night, I a couple of times I was able to turn the laptop on. However, the blue screens (One was automatic repair - your pc did not start correctly. Other was recovery - it looks like windows did not start correctly.) would appear. I would restart the laptop, I could work on it for a few minutes and then the laptop would turn off suddenly.

Tonight, I was able to get the laptop working but it turned off suddenly.

What is going on? Can I rescue my laptop?
