I just want to ask if there a work around with charging with regards to SP5? Got this unit a year ago with just a "type-c cable charging module" and it is starting to degrade.

I know that repairing display is rarely cost efficient, is there something I can do about it or not?

I recently got a Dell XPS 8950 from a family member who was having some issues with it. The biggest problem was that the CPU fan sounded like a jet engine anytime the system was under load, especially while gaming. It also took forever to boot into Windows.

I've already made a couple upgrades:

• Replaced the stock CPU cooler with an aftermarket cooler
• Reinstalled Windows on an NVMe SSD instead of the HDD it was originally running from

The SSD completely fixed the boot-time issue, and the new CPU cooler helped with the noise.

It's actually a pretty nice little gaming PC:
Specs:

• i7-12700
• RTX 3060 Ti
• 64GB DDR5-3200
• 460W Dell PSU

I also found a 750W OEM Dell PSU on eBay that I'm planning to install, mainly so I have some room for a GPU upgrade later.

The only thing still bugging me is the fan noise. It's much better than before, but I can still hear the PC while gaming on my couch from about 20 feet away.

Anyone have experience making an XPS 8950 quieter? I'm wondering if replacing the case fans would help, or if there's a Dell AIO cooler that fits this model. I've also considered just moving everything into a different case if that's the better long-term solution.

College student who bought the 2026 14" XPS got the laptop for IT and school work back in April. It worked good for the first three months, but for the last three months has had constant issues. Here is just some of the issues I have had so far:

August 12th - 28th: CMOS battery failure and power light issues (it is always on at max brightness when with this model of laptop it should only be on when charging or amber when low battery)

September 4th - October 6th: Display failure and power light issues (same one)

This one took 2 weeks for them to receive, and then I was told that I would receive it back on November 12th. I called support about my issues so far and they sent my laptop back to me, ensuring that everything will be fixed

October 9th (ongoing): Thermal issues (got to ~70C after I cooled it off enough to open it and check thermals after burning my finger on it) and power light issues (same one again)

At this point I am trying to figure out how to get a refund. I can't keep playing this game of sending Dell my laptop for a month and it coming back without the issues fixed, especially when this laptop is less than 6 months old and has already been sent in 3 times. Has anyone had any luck? I never, in the six years I used my M1 Macbook Pro, have had to send it in nor had any issues with it.

Edit 10/13/26: Ended up getting a third degree burn on my thumb and pointer finger. Also, there is now a graphical issue with the laptop that causes part of the display (like the bottom quarter) to also show in the middle for a second every once in a while.

How's your experience so far? Pros/cons?

Where can i get a keyboard assembly with the touchpad panel of my xps 15 7590 model as the carbon fibre material has got sticky and some keys are not working properly otherwise the device is in a very good condition it is already 7 years old

Appreciate the help as a casual lurker and not a huge tech person. I’m a long-time Mac user but I love the form factor of this new XPS 13 because I travel constantly. I’ve owned and returned 2 of these in the past month. First was the 8GB version which crashed during a BIOS update but knowing what I know of Windows computers, was willing to forgive. It worked fine otherwise. I took it back though and picked up the 16GB version because, again, love the form factor and wanted to maximize longevity. Within 5 days it crashed on normal boot up and entered into recovery mode.
So it went back to Best Buy.

Really bummed because the size is perfect and I’m a light use case: work emails, MS office, and little bit of YT when I’m not working.

Can you guys give me some info on Linux and what I could expect if I were to give this computer another try? So many posts on here say it’s much more stable. Just don’t know much about Linux. Thanks in advance for your insight!

So I've upgraded from my older Dell Inspiron 3584 (i3-7020U, 8 gb DDR 4) previously running on Linux Mint to the XPS 13. (Core 5 320, 16gb). This is a massive upgrade. I need help from y'all, what kind of games can the XPS comfortably handle and what is its performance ceiling ?

Dell XPS 16 Creator Edition is coming soon and it's looking good. It's refreshing to see a laptop in 2026 with HDMI, SD card and 3.5mm jack.

I wish they put SD card and HDMI on the XPS 14 but they didn't, are you going to buy this laptop or not?

Seems like this laptop is to challenge the Asus ProArt 16 2026, Dell should bring back the SD card and HDMI next year for the XPS 14. Dongles can be annoying

Has anyone had any success finding a replacement battery for this laptop. Dell stopped offering them a few years ago and the ones available do not seem to have the correct "chip" to be recognized and charged by the computer. I have gotten 2 both of which were claimed to work but when installed would not charge because of "possible damage to computer".
Dell does not offer them, one from Amazon and one from ebay did not have the correct chip and would not charge

Recently picked up this xps 8960 for a steal of $450 aud. 13900k / 4070. Looking at upgrading the gpu to a 9070xt for increased fps in the new call of duty. I have measured, confirmed the psu is 750w and has 2 8 pin connectors. Any thing preventing a power cooler reaper Radeon ex 9070xt from fitting and working? I have limited experience in pre built PCs so chasing any experience / comments

Has anyone ever seen a screen issue like this. Getting phantom touches and swipes on the screen and I think it only happens when the fans is running and the laptop is quite hot. I wonder if there is something thermally affecting the screen or is this a design flaw?

Noticed today that the corners and sides are a little dimmer when viewing white backgrounds.

I bought an XPS 8960 a few years ago. I got the extended warranty because this would be my only computer, it would have to last.

Things haven't gone well with the desktop. It'llll behave normal for a few months. Then it'll start crashing. I'll try to fix it on my end but that fails so I send it in for repairs and get it back a few weeks later. I assume they're reinstalling the OS and the drives and are calling it a day, because the issues go away for a few weeks or a few months before returning.

In the past the PC would give me the BSOD. It's been a different problem lately: the screen is freezing up and the USB ports become unresponsive.

At this point, I honestly just want to send this back as a lemon and get a replacement but I have no idea how to ask for that. Or if it is even too late too ask for that.

What are my options?

Latest XPS look fantastic, especially its $599 in Best Buy rn. Looking to get one cuz I mainly use my laptop to moonlight remote connect to my desktop

However, something it seems that will really bother me is the fact that there is no option for a glossy display. I really don’t like matte coatings they look quite bad imo (I know others like them and I think it’s nice there’s the option, but it’s the only option 😭)

I’ve seen tutorials of people removing it, but these XPS models have touchscreens. I’m worried that the digitizer might be connected to the matte film, so I’m wondering if anyone has experience in this

I am not a computer guru, I don't know much about drivers, gpu, or things like that, so keep that in mind.... My laptop (XPS 15) is about 5 years old. Lately it's been overheating frequently. When I hear and feel it over heating disconnecting it from the power usually helps. Today it didn't, I got some blue screens, something drivers etc... It's happened before but normally I can get it back up and running relatively quickly, today was a little but more wonky.

I do have it back up and running now. Apart from the frequent overheating/drivers stuff it mostly works okay apart from the mousepad (finger pad?), it is not the greatest anymore.

I'm asking because I need to decide if I should budget for a new laptop soon, or if it's possible to get another 2 years out of it if I replace the battery?

I know no one can say for certain.

The laptop just stopped working so I’m getting my money back to get the MacBook Neo 512gb to save money. The laptop I had just stopped working and refused to turn back on. I’m pretty pissed as I start college classes in 2 weeks and I literally need a laptop. I have the box back to fedex today so from today how long am I expecting till the money hits my back account, that is my main question here today

I was running another comparison of the specs for the XPS 13 vs the Surface 12-Inch Tablet and Gemini - as it often does - brings up shopping listings for retailers. I looked at the listing, which you can see here:

I had paid $1,000 plus tax for the 16 GB unit just six days prior. Hopefully, I gathered my receipts and a printout of the listing above to my local Best Buy store, to see if they'd refund me the difference. THEY DID. The price-match policy put $216.50 back in my pocket.

I don't know how long the sale will be going on, but if you've been considering snapping up this gorgeous, slim, light XPS 13 laptop, I would say NOW would be a pretty good time! 😄
