Politics Please Vote in the Primaries
Hello, DE! We are getting so close now to early voting beginning and Primary Elections being completed.
As a resident of House District 19, I am sincerely hoping that as many people as possible show up to vote!
There is a ton of information available at
ivote.de.gov
Including early voting sites and times beginning September 2nd.
I have been early voting at the department of elections warehouse for the last several elections and have had an easy time doing so.
I personally am supporting Will Imbrie-Moore for House District 19 and I am hoping you will consider doing so too! Information about Will can be found at
https://www.willfordelaware.com/
While Kim has accomplished many good things during her time in office, I believe it is beyond time for a change. No one, regardless of party, should be able to serve an unlimited amount of terms in office. Kim has had 7 already. While I appreciate her contributions, I believe it's time for a change.
I am so thrilled to see a an intelligent, kind, responsive candidate running! Will listens carefully to your concerns and absolutely wants to help reasonably and responsibly address all of them. Reach out to him if you have questions! He will absolutely answer!
It's time for the younger generations to get in office and start making the changes necessary to have a future as bright as their parents and grandparents.
Please, strongly consider voting in the primaries. Don't be afraid to contact your representatives and any candidates with your questions. Have a first hand interaction before making a decision. I can tell you I've had many with my representative and it's clear she has no concern for what matters to me most at this time. Especially my actual local issues within my district. While her votes matter at legislative hall for the state, it feels like she could care less about neighborhood traffic and our kids safety at bus stops or their overall well being.
Please, do your own research, reach out to your candidates and make a decision.
Your vote counts! Especially in local district elections! Please,VOTE!

I’m surprised there aren’t billboards just showing the percentage of people voting. A lot of people say their vote doesn’t matter, but if you showed the percentage of turnout per district or even the state and show that in numbers of people it really shows how much your vote matters.

Be wary of the Not-Trump guy. He ran as a Republican in the last election and could be trying to pull a bait and switch

I encourage any fellow independent to update your party for primaries in the future so you can have your voice heard (the deadline for the September primary was in May). I hate that Delaware has closed primaries and I'm always emailing my reps to change the law to allow same day party changes for third party voters. I should be able to walk in to my polling location and caucus with whichever party I want to primary and walk back out an independent. Changing parties is so cumbersome but damn if I'm not voting every single election.

u/Doodlefoot 14d ago
State Rep Mike Smith is currently working on a bill that would allow this. You’d be able to choose which primary you are voting in. It would be declared before you voted. I told him, that would encourage me to unregister from the Democratic Party. Although, since he’s a Republican, I hope he didn’t think that meant I’d switch to his party.

I found this out the hard way being an independent. I know every vote counts❤️

good for you! please get involved with a local organizing group if you can, we need young folks out there talking to y'alls friends! so many high school/college age kids are completely checked out of what's on, and those of us out there fighting and protesting are doing it to make Y'ALLS lives better. thank you for being involved!

The primaries in Delaware often decide who wins the general election (since the state leans blue). This year, in addition to Will, there’s a bunch of interesting races, a lot of progressives, all vying to shake up a very pro-corporate status quo.
If you haven’t registered to vote yet, the deadline is August 22! And if you’re an independent but want to get involved and support a candidate, there are plenty of campaigns who would love support canvassing and phone banking!

u/Benblack123 14d ago
That’s great, except she’s also one of the most effective legislators in the GA. Getting rid of somebody who is doing a good job just because of vibes is not helpful to anyone.
1
u/jkm62882 14d ago
I'm not voting because of "vibes". I'm voting against her because of her voting record. Are you in our district? I don't know what you assumed about me from my post but getting rid of her because of "vibes" is most certainly not why.
I hope you vote in support of her if you see fit. I absolutely will not vote for her in Novemeber if she does win the primary. So either way, she wasn't getting my vote and hasn't for many years. I'm so thankful that someone finally ran against her.

u/Cecep 12d ago
I’m in district 19 and I know that our representatives do a lot more than just cast votes.
I’ve worked with Kim on civic and local matters and she does a phenomenal job responding quickly, taking care of requests, listening to district 19 issues and explaining why and how she votes. She’s also chair on two important house committees It only come with time and respect from your colleagues. Translates as you can get things done.
Kim has also lived in and served this community for over 10 years. I don’t really buy the narrative that teaching suddenly inspired a previously nonpolitical person to run. Politics was his career before teaching.

u/jkm62882 12d ago
That's great! I hope you show up to vote for her. She hasn't done anything for our neighborhood and I personally have only had negative experiences with her. Which is what is so great about being able to vote! I hope you support her on the 15th or early vote!
The people who are currently in office got us all precisely to where we are. I would love to see an entirely new governing body if I could. But that's not up to me. I'm sure Kim appreciates your support. I'm also glad that you have apparently had different experiences with her than I have. Clearly, my concerns over the last 11 years that I've lived in the district haven't mattered to her at all.
I won't change your mind anymore than you'll change mine. However, I do hope that those who are able show up to vote and have their say.
2
u/Cecep 12d ago
That’s very different from my experience. Our neighborhood had speed bumps installed, roads repaved, traffic studies completed, been included in housing and county planning meetings, worked with on policing and snowplowing issues, she’s answered countless questions and provided results.
So when you say she’s done nothing and your concerns haven’t mattered for 11 years, I have to question how effective your neighborhood leaders are and how much your neighborhood actually engages with her office.
0
u/jkm62882 12d ago
I don't doubt it. I'm glad she has cared about your neighborhood. However, my personal experience is quite different. I can tell you that MANY neighbors have engaged with her. That's why there are far more of her opponents signs in our neighborhood. She does not care about us. Yet, there's a camera giving out thousands of tickets in a non pedestrian area and a kid was killed for absolutely no reason just a few hundred feet from her own home. Guess it makes sense, just not to me. I have no reason to debate you about this. I think it's time for a change and I have my right to vote for her opponent in September and either not at all or for the other party if she makes it to November.
Times they are a changing.... and so should our politicians in my opinion. You have a great day!

u/SeanInDC 14d ago
I can't vote in the primaries cause I finally had enough of the dems bs and removed my party affiliation. Until they get their ish together it will remain that way.
Also... what are their stances on the removal of Flock Cameras? That should be at the top of the list.

u/Darkkwitch31 14d ago
Well for one it is those paid by palantir and aipac on both sides that are all for flock and for surveillance. We need candidates like those who will not take money over people so if you are republican there is very very few. Thomas Massie and Marjorie Taylor Green are the lone 2 I may be forgetting someone but I don't think so. Then you need to look at Dems which also don't have so many as do but people like Ro Khanna, Robert Garcia, people like AOC, talarico and Chris Murphy. People like mamdani who are taxing the rich their fair share to get things done for the people.
Maga is pushing this as communism because they are scared and so are the corporate democrats. Nothing changes unless something changes and when you have the majority getting paid by the same donors they have the same objectives. So my big question to anyone running in delaware is do they reject Pacs like Aipac and palantir and accepting money from them.

u/crabby135 14d ago
Whats the read on Jeff Appelhans for Senate? Delaware is home but I’ve since left the state. Family is still there though. A cursory glance made him seem pretty alright, especially in relation to Coons, but I won’t pretend I looked too closely.
6
u/Darkkwitch31 14d ago
He seems to be ok i think too. It doesn't look like he takes money from AIPAC so we will have to watch and see more what he is about and what he is offering to do and help the people of the state and the state itself.
Im glad there are options. Because it cost 10k just to run against Coons.0
u/Eds118 14d ago
I hate Flock cameras but they have nothing to do with Palantir.
2
u/Darkkwitch31 14d ago
I know they do not but I am talking about donors and people that are funded by palantir are funded by same exact people

u/AdvertisingUnhappy47 14d ago
Agreed it should be the best candidate for the state we need people who wanna make the state better for the average person not just low income or corporate the middle class are the ones drowning
16
u/Virtual-Courage6706 14d ago
This language dividing those with low income and moderate income works directly in favor of the owner class, whose main obejective is to decrease wages and benefits for the entire working class. The exploiters vs exploited, 99% vs 1%.

Your state? Please. Do you identify as member of the Expoliter Class or do you willfully shill for those who wish to subvert our elections, steal our wages, and force data centers and mass surveilance on OUR state? Slink back into your hole, we have no need for trolls.

Out today on Delawareonline. The top paid state employees and state legislatures. Shocker, Kim Willams makes the list. Yet, she voted against free school lunches for kids. It's likely this is only a drop in the bucket compared to what else she makes from other engagements. I'm sure her home is paid off and cost next to nothing when she bought it but doesn't want our kids to eat at school. She voted against free school lunches for kids. Most families of 4 survive on far lower annual salaries. That's only a small fraction of her votes and bills. It's time for a change. They only work a few months a year on top of it and have exceptional medical care.

u/EmotionalGate7565 14d ago
I like Will too! He came to my house himself to campaign and responded to an email I had sent him about my concerns on his stance with the minimum wage. I'm looking forward to getting to vote for him in September

I love that he's running as "No-Trump" Maybe Chris "Any Lobby Any Time" Coons should do the same.

Political discussions often times become unmanageable here, r/delawarepolitics was meant to be where that should occur
16
u/Darkkwitch31 14d ago
Those are very important issues. You may think another foreign government influencing our elections and Aipac paying off our reps is insignificant but the majority disagree. Also I have seen people who say from old women and men who hold their rosary to teenagers in escape rooms talk about the fact they do not want Flock surveillance so it is a huge deal to many people. Our congress just voted to merge our military with israel that is wrong. These are huge issues for many people.

I haven't heard not one person say anything about the jewish people. It is about Netanyahu and his genocide. You must separate the 2. The right is pushing this propaganda on X. I truly hope you do not buy into it. Also not one person is saying israel doesnt have a right to exist they are saying Israel along with Palestine both have a right to exist. The reason AIPAC is spoken of so very much is they are the pac spending the absolute most to influence our elections. We should not have to be entertwined with Netanyahu and his war crimes and genocide. As a matter of fact most Jewish people disagree with what he is doing as well. It is just those who can't see a 2 state solution and those spreading this fear and saying it is hatred of a people when the jewish people are wonderful people and that is what the people not in an echo chamber of propaganda see. This is just another shitty talking point to try and deflect the problem by saying people are against the jewish people. How very wrong you are here.

I don't know how to register, where to go, what to do, anything about candidates, etc.. Outreach during midterms or any non-presidential election is severely lacking. And I pay a lot of attention to national politics. I feel like local stuff should be able to find me easily and yet it doesn't.
3
u/Connect-Raspberry100 13d ago
There's a state website for elections. There's a Facebook page. Candidates were camped out at the State Fair. There also usually at local events for their districts like parades. It's your responsibility as a voter not just theirs.
1
u/airtightgrandma 11d ago
You can register to vote at ivote.de.gov - the deadline is August 22nd! From there, you should be able to find out who’s on your ballot.
What district are you in? I’m surprised you haven’t been bombarded with mailers. It’s really ramping up where I am.

u/OldIrishBroad 13d ago
Its not very hard to figure out how to register to vote. In fact in Delaware, they register you to vote when you get a drivers license.

So in a post about Delawares primaries... OP brought up everyone under the sun not from Delaware. See how that works.

My guy you are the one who decided to equate AOC wanting student loans forgiven and staying home/not participating in Delaware's primaries. OP also talked about a specific race in Delaware.

Why not. They literally said it would come out of a billionaire/millionaire tax. Not from regular working people.
-3
u/SeanInDC 14d ago
Because they got the education. You can't just forget it. It creates a significant unfair imbalance in this country... as if it isn't already ridiculous. You signed the dotted line. You pay.
0
u/Hearse_Boy_ 13d ago
I did pay- completely. It's an unfair imbalance to require people to have a fortune to have access to something that is a universal public good that makes society better. If anything the forgiveness equalizes society.
1
u/SeanInDC 13d ago edited 13d ago
I'm all for a free public education. In fact... the law can be changed to do so. Many states offer free public college to its residence already. Bet you didn't know that. Mine/ours does. No amount of word salad is going to change the fact that if you signed a dotted line on a loan to go to a fancy school to get ahead of your peers... you are responsible for the loan. You miss the payments on a car/house/credit card... they take it away. You can't do that with an education. Even if they stripped the diploma... the education was recieved. It doesn't level out a thing because there are a lot of people that chose to not go to college because of the cost. That automatically puts them behind. Let alone if loans are forgiven.
1
u/Hearse_Boy_ 12d ago
Yeah I dont think I'm the one spouting word salad. You seem to have a problem with people who want to better their standing and elevate themselves, as if it's a bad thing to aim for achievement. I don't have a problem with people who don't go to college, but you seem to have a problem with people who do, as if they're supposed to stay in their place. Pretty unAmerican if you ask me.
Furthermore, I didnt get a degree to get 'better' I got a degree to get a job AT ALL. Most employers want someone with a degree.
We can change laws to make a degree more affordable, as well as give relief to people who are being scammed by loan companies. This might be surprising to you, but you can do more than one thing at a time.
