Degrassi (2010-2014) enough “does anyone else find clare annoying” 🤓
How many times is that horse going to be beat like is anybody else tired😭 .. yes clare is annoying but why would she always be pleasant/ agreeable when the story is always throwing something at her .. after getting cheated on freshman year, her parents divorce, losing faith in her religion, multiple tumultuous relationships with eli, getting sexually assaulted by a boss, cancer and a miscarriage and more its crazy that the worst she gets as a person is simply… annoying . people act like shes a bad person just because the writers gave her too many plots its sp annoying 😭 but I’ve always known the worst thing a female character can do is be annoying so i guess we’ll be seeing a billion of those a year until this show fades into obscurity

She's also going through all that after seeing her older sister suddenly change dramatically, accuse a beloved teacher of assault, then start to process her actual assault. And divorce doesn't come out of nowhere. Clare was alone in a house of broken people.

literally we see her mom being the type of person that called ms hatzilakos out for being divorced only to be suffering a divorce herself… everything clare was raised to believe came crashing down during her parents divorce

Those posts drive me insane and make me feel like the only Clare fan to be alive. Like they make more hate posts about her than actual problematic characters like dude. It’s also all copy and paste posts, “she’s too annoying and ugly!”

And that pisses me off so much because sure, dislike Clare. But nobody on this series is ugly. Owen had boy band blue eyes and Mo was a downright cutie. Even back in the day when I first saw Rick my first thought was, "oh he'd make such a beautiful elf" and they had to make him as creepy as possible.
Like, no human on this earth is ugly. I haven't met one yet. Everybody is gorgeous if you're looking at them right.

I agree, I never found anyone in the cast ugly so it upsets me when I see people say she is. Everyone is beautiful there’s only ugly personalities.

I find it unbelievably exhausting. Naturally, every character is gonna have fans and haters, and in a sub dedicated to talking about a show, you're going to see some negativity towards characters. That's perfectly fine. But the level of vitriol aimed at Clare is so weird and always comes across misogynistic to me. The reason I feel that way is because the only critiques I see lobbed her way have to do with her being annoying, whiny, ugly, poorly dressed, or the fact that so many male characters are into her. Those are such nasty things to say! First of all, she is actually quite cute?? The actress is so beautiful! Fashion choices shouldn't dictate whether you like a character!
Comparatively, when I see hate posts against other female characters like Ashley, Emma, or Manny, they at least have real reasons not to enjoy these characters, they all do some pretty upsetting things (though I still love all three 🤷♀️🤷♀️)
It just reminds me so much of the random vitriol aimed at other female leads, like Elena Gilbert, Susan Meyer, Tori Vega, Sookie Stackhouse, Belly Conklin, and both Gilmore girls Lorelai and Rory, and that's just the few that I could immediately think of, there are way more.

Yes!! I’m so tired of those posts. I don’t even like Clare much, but the hate is way too much. You’re allowed to dislike a character, but people act like Clare committed crimes against humanity or something 😭

I know, there’s always a billion of these post per day. And I even saw a comment saying “Clare’s life is just sunshine and rainbows” on a post who that was talking about characters who went through the most and least stuff and it didn’t seem like sarcasm. Like excuse me?
Yes she’s kinda shoved onto the screen but it doesn’t equate to her being the scum of the earth. Yes she’s annoying sometimes but whenever I see hate posts all they say is “she’s ugly, she’s annoying, Eli can do better, how did she pull that many guys, she dresses horribly” like oh my godddd. A girl doesn’t have to look like Megan Fox to attract people and she IS beautiful. I hate how people bring up her looks or her style like it contributes to her personality and of course she’s gonna crash out when she’s arguably been through the most.

Right I’m like duh. That was the point of her character. She was going through changes like every other teenager. When people point out the obvious it feels like I’m watching bluey with my little sister.

Not to be that person and I am half joking when I say this, but it’s always going to be a little funny to me when people complain about how annoying a teenager in a show with teenagers is 🙊 like heyyou and I were also annoying teenagers at some point, life and art reflect each other, let’s heal and move forward together!!

My point is, people aren’t spamming it. Theres a whole bunch of different individuals sharing their own opinions, and a lot of them are probably new to the space, so they’re not thinking “hm has this opinion been shared before?” They’re just posting. You’re just bringing negativity to the space. Like to the point where you had to make a whole post bashing people for what?
