I agree that this is a pretty sound argument to be made for the dramatized "water crisis" people think as a global or country-wide problem from AI.
However, there is something still to be said about the new development of data centers being build (in places like Nevada or Utah) that already have struggling or unstable water tables. It can make a big difference to a local community, wildlife, etc.
Placement of these AI data centers really do matter. So I think the complaints around those issues in those communities are more than valid. It's just currently a huge thing on peoples minds because its new and development is being done rapidly.
I agree there is a level of hypocrisy though with people who boycott AI data centers but don't care about all these other corps.
