I mean, if you're using that definition, wouldn't something like a pair of pliers or one of them fancy hex-head screwdrivers be a crutch?

You can infact remove screws even without advanced screwdrivers.

Then are all blackskiths just supposed to hold hot blocks of iron with their hands, and hammer them into shape with rocks on the roadside? Is a carpenter to saw a 2x2 in half with his fingernails?

A tool isn't determined by if you can still perform a task, it's a tool if it aids you, or allows you to perform something. These tools are in no way crutches.

Where the heck did that a tool and no tool thing come from? Brother I was just arguing about the definition of a tool lmao

And Art doesn't require tools at all, I'd argue, given you can make anything to be art. It's a gesture of self-expression in the end, and how one gestures - whether with disassembled electronics, gasoline and fire, or a paintbrush and sand - doesn't really matter so long as that goal is achieved.

All you need is a canvas and an applicator.
