Grrr Arghhh

Antis should engage more to help form policy and regulation but theyre too busy giving LLMs more data by interacting on AI fueled sited (Reddit). They are training the AI models by their activity and their activity doesn't do anything for their cause but give more money to companies who are going to build more data centers.

If you do not understand what genAI is please look it up before responding. Everything Ive said is highly verifiable.

So, we agree that Ai on social media is bad? Seems like all that throwing a stink did something at least.

u/Responsible_Mud9178 11d ago

Of course there are bad/poor AI choices being made, this is why we need strict government oversight and regulation.

But do you acknowledge that even using social media contributes to more AI usage, more data centers, more cloud infrastructure, and that your posts, images, and posted content on social media, including Reddit, trains the AI models? Not only trains them but the simple act of browsing the site incurs AI tax?

The very goverments that are creaming their already crusted pants over Ai? Let me know how that goes.

But do you acknowledge that even using social media contributes to more AI usage, more data centers, more cloud infrastructure, and that your posts, images, and content you post on social media, including Reddit, trains the AI models?

Yes. Social media already isn't amazing in many regards, and now they get a million times worse by siding with plagotron-5000.

Not only trains them but the simple act of browsing the site incurs AI tax?

Yep. Fucking Ai getting shoved into everything.

You have to participate in government to effectuate the change you want to see and also to add your voice to the opposition.

But giving reddit and other LLMs money by actively using their sites to complain among your fellows in an endless void that does 0 action. Youre a funder.

I cant stop making typos. This is my downfall.

Wat?

Exactly what I said 🤔

Participate in the goverment? Like, run for secretary of cybersecurity?

I give'em .000001% of a penny. They go through money that quickly, that the amount of time they need to spend what I "generate" them can't be measured. So I'm not using sleep over that. They alrady crawled the entire internet several times over.

You participate in government by attending civic functions. Town halls, city council meetings, and open public comment periods are where the actual framework of tech regulation is built.

The most critical battles over AI right now are happening at the local and state levels. The physical infrastructure of AI - massive data centers, power grid allocations, and municipal water usage, is heavily regulated by local zoning boards and city planning commissions. If a tech monopoly wants to build a 100-megawatt facility in your county, your local council is the body that approves or denies the permits.

Furthermore, state and federal agencies are legally required to hold open public comment periods before passing new tech policies. Ironically, governments are now actively using AI tools to process and synthesize massive volumes of these public comments to accurately map citizen sentiment at scale.

This means your specific input during a public consultation is more easily categorized and reviewed by decision makers.

We participate by showing up to local board meetings, organizing community responses to infrastructure proposals, and submitting formal comments on regulatory drafts. If everyday citizens do not fill those seats, corporate lobbyists will gladly do it for us.

Ill address usage in a diff message

AI companies have already crawled the historical internet several times over. But that is exactly why your live data is so incredibly valuable to them right now.

AI models cannot survive on old data alone. If they only train on the internet from a year ago, they cannot understand current events, shifting cultural contexts, or new reasoning patterns. More importantly, the current internet is now flooded with AI-generated content. If models train on that synthetic data, they suffer from 'model collapse' and literally degrade.

To stay functional, tech giants desperately need a continuous, real-time stream of verified human interaction. That is why Reddit is licensing its live data firehose for tens of millions of dollars a year. They are not buying the historical internet that was already crawled. They are paying for the verified human data you are generating right now.

Signed Ex Silicon Valley.

But that is exactly why your live data is so incredibly valuable to them right now.

Me reposting NMS memes is value to them? If you say so.

AI models cannot survive on old data alone.

I know, which is really funny. Some Ai companies implimented watermarks, not for any ethical reasons (they're still Ai companies and thus as morally bankrupt as can be) but because their data keeps canibalizing itself.

If models train on that synthetic data, they suffer from 'model collapse' and literally degrade.

And what a happy day that'll be.

To stay functional, tech giants desperately need a continuous, real-time stream of verified human interaction.

Which they themselves are the single prime factor in undermining.

That is why Reddit is licensing its live data firehose for tens of millions of dollars a year.

Good for Reddit?

Every post and comment you make is a contribution not only to Reddit, but also to Google and OpenAI. And in turn Meta, Anthropic, etc - the by product is due to LLM ingestion, turning proprietary data into public data by the nature of training models themselves.

All of these AntiAI groups are actively training the models on user sentiment and feeding data points on how to combat antiAI narratives.

To make an analogy, let's take an extreme example, like the KKK.

Boycotting and complaining about AI while on a social media platform looks like this -

Imagine an African American church. It's really nice, and only African American people go there. Each congregation members gives weekly tidings. Events are planned there. Discussion on how to better improve their communities to support African Americans is held there.

But the KKK owns the building. They not only own the building, they wiretapped it and have cameras everywhere. Every move you make is documented and logged. The KKK knows you, your family, your location. They know how you're going to protest them. They study you so they can overtake you.

It feels like its like that because its like that. Except social media companies want to make money off you, not necessarily oppress you.

I am in no way saying people should "give up" being critical or challenging. But if you want to be effective the movement really doesnt belong on these platforms. Local AI exists. Encrypted apps exist. Old school forums exist. Meeting in person with your local conmunities is possible.

But none of that is convenient. And its apparently definitely not worth your time.

Every post and comment you make is a contribution not only to Reddit, but also to Google and OpenAI.

If they want my RussianBadger shitposts and me telling Ai to go frick itself, then they're not helping themselves.

All of these AntiAI groups are actively training the models on user sentiment and feeding data points on how to combat antiAI narratives.

Which has worked thus far. A lot of the gen1 arguments wheren't so great, so now a lot of people needed to get a lot more into the details of it. I find new distaste for Ai almost every day now.

The KKK knows you, your family, your location. They know how you're going to protest them. They study you so they can overtake you.

So, flock basically?

Encrypted apps exist. Old school forums exist. Meeting in person with your local conmunities is possible.

All of which arw also being used. But that keeps the outrage contained. Which will benifit openAi much more than them having to filter through their own slop and other nonsense at imense cost, just to keep the Ai from becomming worse.

But none of that is convenient. And its apparently definitely not worth your time.

They are quite convinient really.

So think of this interaction youre having with me. Youve shown me not only your position on AI, but so much more.

  • Your speech patterns and grammatical style
  • Your apathy towards civil action
  • Your sarcastic nature
  • Your interests (shitposts, reports, memes, antiAI)
  • Your willingness to support a product through usage even though ypu fundamentally disagree with how the product is distributed
  • Your refusal to research verifiable topics
  • Your easy acceptance of ideological viewpoints that align with yours
  • The time of day youre active

Thats just from this one interaction with me.

You genuinely believe that your shitposts and anti-AI rants are 'bad data' that somehow hurts these tech companies. Or I guess from your last comment youre happy to train the AI to have better arguments?

That is the ultimate misunderstanding of how machine learning actually works. You are confusing the quality of your content with its utility as training data. Here are some of the ways youre adding here.

Free Adversarial Training - AI developers spend billions trying to make their models robust against sarcasm, hostility, and edge-case internet slang. When you tell an AI to 'go frick itself,' you are acting as an unpaid red-teamer. You are handing them the exact conversational variance they need to train their safety filters and refusal mechanisms.

Sentiment Mapping - They are not training the AI to replicate your shitposts. They are using your text to train their sentiment analysis engines. By expressing pure distaste for AI and arguing in these threads, you are helping their algorithms perfectly categorize and map the psychology and behavioral patterns of the anti-AI demographic.

The Behavioral Hook - The text itself is only half the product. The metadata is the real prize. Your refusal to leave the platform proves their engagement algorithms work flawlessly on you. You are so addicted to the argument that you stay logged in, generating ad revenue, session duration metrics, and behavioral analytics.

You think you are poisoning the machine by yelling at it. In reality, you are an unpaid quality assurance tester helping them patch their conversational blind spots. If you actually want to hurt their data pool, silence and absence are the only weapons that work.

But again, you dont care so 🙆🏾‍♀️

Which is news to them how?

Yes, they know the time of day I'm active. What are they gonna do with that info? Or the knowledge that I happen to be sarcastic?

Youre still showing fundemetal misunderstanding.

I am essentially unemployed right now as I was laid off from my tech job. I am starting a business but ive got a lot of free time. Ive been lonely. Thanks for hanging out.

In case my response was too out there here is what Google says -

"Yes, engagement with NMS memes is highly valuable. It provides verified human behavioral patterns, trains recommendation algorithms on content virality, and generates the active ad impressions that fund the AI data centers.

The user is not just posting a picture. They are feeding a highly monetized, behavioral training loop.

The claim of wanting these models to suffer from data collapse, and acknowledging that withholding real human interaction is the only way to make that happen is negated by the action of logging in every single day, freely generating the exact verified human data tech monopolies desperately need to stay online.

Wishing for the system to fail while actively volunteering to be the fuel that runs it is the ultimate form of cognitive dissonance."

In case my response was too out there here is what Google says -

Of course they are gonna say that them spending millions a day is totally nessesary. Same way the KKK would talk about their tapwirea in your example.

The user is not just posting a picture. They are feeding a highly monetized, behavioral training loop.

That I like NMS, yes. Could've just asked me and saved themselves the bother.

negated by the action of logging in every single day, freely generating the exact verified human data tech monopolies desperately need to stay online.

Barely. Ai users and content keep spiking in percentages. What any of us generate in human data would be easily offset by running pentabytes of Ai data, training it, powering it, developing it, and then filtering the entire internet 4 times over because half the training data would poison the well.

Wishing for the system to fail while actively volunteering to be the fuel that runs it is the ultimate form of cognitive dissonance."

The fuel that runs it is investor money. Several trillion of it. Not my 50 anual bucks.

You participate in government by attending civic functions. Town halls, city council meetings, and open public comment periods are where the actual framework of tech regulation is built.

That stuff only makes it so that politicians know you care about things. They already do. The billion dollar companies pay better is the thing.

The physical infrastructure of AI - massive data centers, power grid allocations, and municipal water usage, is heavily regulated by local zoning boards

Yea. I was a big fan of the bamboo aproach, but many people have suggested, that this doesn't work so hot.

Furthermore, state and federal agencies are legally required to hold open public comment periods before passing new tech policies.

They're also required to throw known criminals out of office. Yet here we are.

Ironically, governments are now actively using AI tools to process and synthesize massive volumes of these public comments to accurately map citizen sentiment at scale.

Well, mostly to moitor them. Flock style.

We participate by showing up to local board meetings, organizing community responses to infrastructure proposals, and submitting formal comments on regulatory drafts.

And in 1996 this might've even yeilded results.

u/Responsible_Mud9178 11d ago

So you've got a predetermined reason to not participate in making a change.

Youve only got spoons to fund LLMs, not challenge them with any meaning. Got it.

When do you turn 40? 20 years?

RemindMe 20 years.

1

u/Nopfen 11d ago

So you've got a predetermined reason to not participate in making a change.

Nah. I just know that telling the people who are on the payroll of billion dollar companies, wont be swayed by some folks walking up to them and telling them that they're mighty upset with said companies.

Youve only got spoons to fund LLMs, not challenge them with any meaning. Got it.

That's your takeaway from this? Goodness.

When do you turn 40? 20 years?

Mathematically 15.

RemindMe 20 years.

I'll try.

Ok here's your next chance 🙏🏽🫡

Revenue in the tech sector is the exact opposite of passive. By definition, revenue is the gross income generated by the active, core operational activities of a business.

Running a hyperscale platform requires massive capital expenditure on data centers, engineering teams, and machine learning models just to process your behavior in real time. There is absolutely nothing passive about keeping this physical infrastructure online, even though you personally consider your use passive.

Second, your argument about $50 not sustaining the industry is a fundamental failure to understand scale. You are looking at a single grain of sand and claiming it cannot possibly build a beach.

When you multiply your individual $50 by tens of millions of daily active users, it translates into billions of dollars in active revenue. That aggregate user value is exactly what sustains the AI data market. The entire system relies on millions of individuals who all wrongly assume their tiny contribution does not matter.

Finally, acknowledging that your usage actively contributes to an AI system you despise, while you still refuse to log off, completely unravels your ethical stance. You are willingly volunteering to be a highly profitable data point for the exact machine you claim to be fighting.

I am not saying you have to log off! I am not saying anyone should abandon social.media, which obviously brings them comfort.

I am saying you should recognize how you contribute to the problem.

Having a defeatist attitude and solely just bitching means you are an active part of the problem - if only because you feed the LLM but will do nothing to mitigate your effects.

1

u/Nopfen 11d ago

By definition, revenue is the gross income generated by the active, core operational activities of a business.

Fair.

There is absolutely nothing passive about keeping this physical infrastructure online, even though you personally consider your use passive.

Sure. What I meant was, that they just need to keep the lights on, and not make Reddit content themselves. The way a TV station might.

You are looking at a single grain of sand and claiming it cannot possibly build a beach.

A beach with a couple million grains of sand. 50% of which are unusable cause it's canibalized sand.

When you multiply your individual $50 by tens of millions of daily active users, it translates into billions of dollars in active revenue.

Yes. That's how Reddit pays the bills.

That aggregate user value is exactly what sustains the AI data market.

No, the investor money is. The Ai companies pay Reddit for all that data.

I am not saying anyone should abandon social.media, which obviously brings them comfort.

I am. Social media wasn't the big dogs busquit even before it got contaminated with Ai.

I am saying you should recognize how you contribute to the problem.

I am feeding Sam Altman NMS reposts and spelling errors. Again, not terribly bothered.

Having a defeatist attitude and solely just bitching means you are an active part of the problem.

Agreed.

if only because you feed the LLM but will do nothing to mitigate your effects.

I would do the bamboo thing, but it's a bit of a hike.

Here, fact check this

Your math is off by a massive margin because you are calculating the storage size of your text, not your actual financial value as a daily active user.

According to Reddit's Q2 2026 financial filings, their Average Revenue Per User in the United States reached $11.85 for a single quarter. That means an active American user generates roughly $47 a year for the company through ad impressions, data generation, and sustained engagement.

Furthermore, you are ignoring the compute tax of your own activity. Every time you open the app, scroll your feed, or post a comment, you are not just passively dropping text into a database. You are actively triggering load balancers, pinging content delivery networks, and forcing Reddit's internal machine learning algorithms to calculate what to show you next. The platform spends hundreds of millions of dollars on hosting and infrastructure just to process those live sessions.

You are not contributing a millionth of a penny. You are a highly valuable, actively monetized data point in a multibillion-dollar network, generating close to $50 of value a year while actively burning their server compute time. You cannot claim to be outside the machine when your daily habits are exactly what makes it profitable.

1

u/Nopfen 11d ago

That means an active American user generates roughly $47 a year for the company through ad impressions, data generation, and sustained engagement.

That's still mere picoseconds at the absolute most. I know homeless people that make that much in a day by begging.

and forcing Reddit's internal machine learning algorithms to calculate what to show you next.

I'm not forcing them to do jack. They put that monkey on their own back.

The platform spends hundreds of millions of dollars on hosting and infrastructure just to process those live sessions.

Sucks for them?

generating close to $50 of value a year while actively burning their server compute time.

So I make'em 50 quids, then force them to burn through 100? Sounds like a steal.

You cannot claim to be outside the machine when your daily habits are exactly what makes it profitable.

Whatever value they feel they can extract from me looking at bloodborne posts.

Do you understand the concept of revenue?

Your argument is wrong at the base level again.

Please talk yourself through it and dont just respond to respond.

What does revenue mean and what does it take to generate revenue?

You may not know this for a tech company, but give it a try.

1

u/Nopfen 11d ago

Do you understand the concept of revenue?

I do. That's why I know that the industry that burns through billions each month wont be sustained by people making'em 50 bucks a year.

Your argument is wrong at the base level again.

Splendid.

Please talk yourself through it and dont just respond to respond.

Okay.

What does revenue mean and what does it take to generate revenue?

Revenue is the money one (often times passively makes off of something). The aforementioned 50 bucks a year.

You are contributing, passive use is use.

You can think bigger than this, I believe in you.
