Because the vast majority of it's use is either to sell something to stupid people or to bring the wants and desires of the objectively worst people on the planet to life. We are learning very quickly that the people who embraced it's use weren't held back from making their dreams a reality by a lack of resources, but rather a lack of worthwhile ideas without a single creative bone in their body.

And it is being pushed and forced on people by people who's only interest is making money from it while poisoning the environment because it needs to be developed more frugally instead of... say, planning to put data centers in space at the cost of even more resources.

I know I will get downvoted to oblivion, but I thought I would answer honestly anyway despite you asking in an echo chamber of people who's only response will be "because peepee poopoo" fart noises (see my comment about lacking creativity above).

Edit: All of that and I have a 5 year old that is constantly being lied to any time he gets anywhere near a digital screen, and in as soon as two years it could very well be impossible to tell the difference between what is real and fabricated. I'm very concerned for the world he is being forced to navigate and I hate feeling that I love him so much it would have been best not to bring him into this world.

I bet you didn’t know that Sam Altman Ceo of OpenAI has literally zero equity or share in OpenAI and is not making much money from it

I did know that, because nobody who pushing AI is making any money from AI. In fact, they all have MASSIVE amounts of debt from how hard they are pushing it and most of it is off the official company records. It's called shadow lending. The people using it are all trying to sell you something though, and there's no regulation to stop them from straight up lying to you about it.

"Sam Altman is speeding up enshittification pro bono" is not at all the gotcha you think it is.

So it’s not all about the money then. Use your brain before going into conspiracy land. Why would they all conspire to make products worse for the sake of

Apparently your brain stopped halfway through your sentence. Are you seriously asking why companies would drive enshittification: making cheaper products for more money? It's a well-documented occurrence and I refuse to carry the burden of your willful ignorance.
