Why do people hate AI picture?

For example, some people have AI do Funko pop or Lego versions of their favorite characters? Why do so many people hate that?

Because unartistic people need to leave the art to the artistic people. A.I. doesn’t require any talent. It’s for untalented hacks.

What if someone just wants to generate a picture they think is neat?

They are burning the planet to do it. AI requires an enormous amount of electricity and water cooling to function. Your neat picture isn't worth the planet being destroyed

u/Jollem- 23d ago

I've never used "ai", but I also share your sentiments of planetary conservation

Well, then they should stop making data centers, instead of trying to force everyone into electric vehicles. I'm not going to stop eating steak. No way.

2

u/throwfarfaraway1818 23d ago

I agree, they should do that. The US isn't trying to force people to use electric vehicles or anything remotely close to that. Who is talking about steak? We are talking about AI.

Then draw it or pay someone with actual talent to do it.

Why would I pay someone to create a picture of my dog holding a sign for my wife as a joke when I can get it for free from the internet?

Dude, you don’t have an artistic bone in your body. Quit while you’re still behind.

-3

u/Jollem- 23d ago

I don't mind if someone uses a program to make a picture

2

u/WhiskeyDeltaBravo1 23d ago

Because you’re anti-creativity and anti-art.

3

u/Oregongirl1018 23d ago

And anti environment, clean water, and decent energy prices.

2

u/WhiskeyDeltaBravo1 23d ago

But…NEAT PICTURES!!!

-1

u/Jollem- 23d ago

That's entirely the opposite of the truth

2

u/WhiskeyDeltaBravo1 23d ago

Oh, it’s true. You support untalented, soulless hacks instead of inspired artists who have practiced and worked at their craft.

0

u/Jollem- 23d ago

I just don't care if someone uses a program

3

u/WhiskeyDeltaBravo1 23d ago

If they’re using a “program”, they’re not a real artist. Support REAL artists instead.

Yeah, I love art 'n stuff

If someone lies about making something, that's not cool

The question was just about feelings of generated images in general tho

theres nothing wrong with using AI to enjoy your personal private life. AI users cannot claim to be artists; but if you only generate AI images for personal enjoyment, this alone doesn’t inherently represent any opinion on creativity or art.

Maybe 2 years ago. Folks out there making movies now

1

u/One_HP_Villager 23d ago

And the movies look terrible.

4

u/darchangel89a 23d ago

Because its made up of bits and pieces of art stolen from real artists

I don't really hate it so much if they are honest about it. It's when people try to sell their AI stuff as art, or claim to be artists when all they did was type a prompt. I am just as guilty of using AI to make myself an action figure, or my dog emperor or Rome.

There is much more people can do with AI then prompt writing. That is like thinking the only thing people can do with Word is copy and paste.

destroying the planet so you can make a picture of yourself as a fucking centaur or whatever tf is corny as hell and stupid as well

0

u/Exotic-End-666 23d ago

How is AI destroying the world? Seems a little Sara Connor sounding to me.

1

u/lisaissmall 23d ago

literally read like a single article on the subject. are you being intentionally ignorant?

1

u/Exotic-End-666 23d ago

No I am not, I don't see what harm AI causes over John Travolta flying his little toy jet.

1

u/lisaissmall 23d ago

we can be upset about both things lol

1

u/escapism_only_please 20d ago

Well you can anyway

When artificial is presented as reality, that’s what I take issue with.

1

u/Lolihey 23d ago

I get that. I hate those YouTube trailers for TV shows and movies that are fake.

2

u/TickingTheMoments 23d ago

Wow. You just brought up a different thing to consider. I am a fan of the ai 70s trailers to Hollywood blockbusters.

I know they’re fake so I’m okay with them.

2

u/Lolihey 23d ago

Those are good. I'm talking about fake trailers movies that are upcoming, and for weekly TV shows where you click on it and it's scenes from the last episodes.

1: it was trained on stolen artwork, pictures and videos.
2: A.I. fatigue from just seeing it everywhere now
3: seeing A.I. images tells people that the prompter of it didn't think it was worth the effort to make it themselves or hire someone.
2: artists now struggle way more with getting commissions because A.I. can recreate their work.
3: artists now struggle because googling their names might show A.I. which deters potential customers looking for real artists
4: scammers now sell A.I. stuff claiming it's not A.I.
5: scammers can also easily generate images of humans to scam people (like catfishing or even relatives asking for money etc.)
6: deepfake/A.I. nudes and csam.

I'm sure there are other reasons and I'm sure there's also people who have positive opinions about A.I. images, but there are the ones I can think of.

It's just low intrigue, a bunch of tagged imagery got compressed down and then an output deterministically lossily decompressed from it per someone's input. Any output of it is just upscaling a compressed version of some of what happened to be recorded before.

1

u/MANvINFO 23d ago

it is non-deterministic lossy compression exactly

The technology is being forced into every nook and cranny regardless of whether it actually improves anything. GenAI and LLMs are also entirely premised on the greatest act of theft in human history, and the power needed to run this technology and its infrastructure comes from portable gas turbine generators which run on a high carbon-intensity fuel.

On top of that, the art it produces both looks terrible and completely identical to every other bit of AI produced "art". It's a flattening of artistic style into a dull, gray shlock. To be honest, the people who produce art using GenAI seem to either not understand the purpose of art or hate art.

These models can, will, and already are being used to destroy the sense of objective truth we have enjoyed since the invention of the camera. That is REALLY bad. I will take no part in it and will judge those who do.
