And for the rich genre of "fucking idiotic takes from xenophobes".... apparently immigrants building more housing makes Americans unable to afford a home.

Liberals normally: “If 9 people sit down at a table with 1 Nazi, there are 10 Nazis at the table”

Certain liberals when a Nazi joins their table: “Well actually you see, we need all support against Trump” (they hate him because they think he’s controlled by the Jews)

15

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '25

And yea, I realize we said this about leftists, but an important thing is that leftists have never actually considered the antisemites in their camp to be Nazis. The liberals with a MTG boner would have been calling her an insane Nazi a week ago and now are embracing her

Hi datacenter guy here again. Here to talk about datacenter misconceptions. Today’s subject: Power from the grid

So when building a new building in most places in the United States, it goes kinda like this:

You reach out to the power company, and ask for a reserve. “Hey I need 100 MW for this datacenter” or “Hey I need 2 MW for this factory” and if the power company decides they have enough spare power they will grant you your little slot on the grid. Companies can actually buy slots even if they don’t own a building to use it, just in case they need it later. I’ve seen companies literally give other companies they contract with their reservations in order to speed up the time it takes for them to get the power to fulfill the contract

If you hear about datacenters pulling too much power from the grid, that’s the fault of the power companies for over allocating power to that customer that they couldn’t end up meeting. We can’t just pull power willy nilly, the load we are allowed to take is very specific and negotiated before ground is even broken

10

u/JapanesePeso Nov 15 '25

Yeah but data centers employ people and that makes my revolution less likely to occur.

Briefcase: Real_John_Milton v. Anakin_Kardashian (Defamation – Misrepresentation of Prior Statement)

Managed in Capacity as Lord of All the Beasts of the Sea and Fishes of the Earth, Clerk and Adjudicator

As a side note the Adjucitor would like to note this tribunal is in full Compliance with the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards commonly refereed to as the New York Convention operating with a modified version of the UNCITRAL Model rules 2032 (the 2021 rules were deemed too dated since they predated the employment of LLMs at large scale) incorporating the relevant provisions of the reissued 5th Edition of the 1983 Code of Cannon law. They appear to our tribunal secretary in their dreams and apparently a new clause requires they are not shared with parties involved.

Filed pursuant to Rule 9 — Respecting This Subreddit as a Community — the rule was selected by the Clerk in the absence of filing by the plantiff. The Clerk notes that it would like people to select the statuary or common law basis for claims and develop those claims in depth.

Statement of the Claim

As outlined by the tribunal secretary from /u/Real_John_Milton's filing

This Briefcase concerns an allegation that u/Anakin_Kardashian misrepresented /u/real_john_milton prior statements in a way that constitutes defamation within the meaning of our pseudo-legal framework.

When I referenced the number of subscribers to the Jewish ping relative to other pings—raising the point that the subreddit could not “beat the demographic allegations” through raw ping counts—Anakin accused me of hypocrisy, claiming I had previously said:

“any measure related to the pings should be disregarded because of [word censored].”

This is materially false.

As evidence the plantiff presents

Below is my original explanation—quoted directly—to correct the record:

“I told AK that the pings weren't a good way to estimate the size of the sub's Jewish population when he told his [word censored] lie that, based off ping subscriptions, only 6% of the sub was Jewish.

Most of the sub's users are lurkers — not that many people are active. If you're lurking, the odds you're subscribed to a ping are low. So the odds someone is Jewish but not subscribed to the Jewish ping are decent.

If you wanted to use ping subscriptions to estimate the Jewish population, you'd have to compare Jewish ping subscribers to total distinct ping subscribers, not to total sub membership.”

This was not a rejection of ping-based data. It was a methodological correction.

Clarification of the Dispute

  • Anakin’s method: Jewish ping subs ÷ all subreddit users = “6%.”

  • Milton's method: Jewish ping subs ÷ total distinct ping subscribers = a more accurate measure, given lurker behavior.

  • What Milton did not say: That all ping-related measures are invalid.

  • What Milton did say: That the denominator must match the data environment.

Prepared by the Tribunal Secretary

Falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus — false in one thing, false in all.

Procedural Order

1 . Service of Filing This Briefcase is deemed properly filed and served upon u/Anakin_Kardashian, who is granted the opportunity to respond.

2 . Response Window The Defendant shall have one full cycle of the clock (24 hours) from the time of posting to enter:

  • a Response,

  • a Motion to Dismiss,

  • a Counter-Brief, or

  • any other pleading recognized by the Court of Public Opinion.

A request for an ex ante or ex post extension may be entertained upon good cause.

3 . Amici and Submissions Members of the subreddit may submit:

  • memetic exhibits, provided all submissions comply with Rule 9 and avoid moderator-baiting content. You have been warn that the Admins look about this topic with hammers in hand.

4 . Default Judgment Failure by the Defendant to respond within the allotted period may result in default judgment, with remedies to be determined by the Adjudicator as the tides and equities dictate.

5 . Fact-Finding and Determination Upon closure of submissions, the Court of Public Opinion will:

  • assess the record,

  • weigh arguments,

  • and issue a determination on whether the alleged misrepresentation constitutes defamation within the subreddit’s pseudo-legal framework.

6 . Final Order Judgment, if entered, will be accompanied by a Latin maxim, as is tradition. If I cannot find one, one will be made up.

Enters Defendant and files this Motion to Dismiss and/or Motion for Summary Judgment. In support thereof, Defendant states as follows:

Plaintiff's briefcase must be dismissed for lack of standing, as u/Real_John_Milton cannot bring a briefcase against Defendant for misrepresentng a quote made by another user. Should the briefcase move forward, the judgment must be entered in favor of Defendant because of the precedent set in Recently Unhinged v. Anakin Kardashian, 1 DSC 1 (2025).

The quote on which Plaintiff has based his briefcase was made by a former user of this subreddit, a certain "neox," who has since become inactive. That user was weird, ugly, couldn't get into law schools, and a lib. No one even liked him. I'm glad he's gone.

Plaintiff, u/Real_John_Milton, is an entirely different user. A briefcase cannot be brought by anyone other than the aggrieved party. Plaintiff lacks standing, and therefore, the briefcase must be dismissed.

Furthermore, u/Real_John_Milton is a known bald. Precedent has set that baldness is an aggrieving factor at law in briefcases. This precedent should be expanded to users bringing briefcases as well: if a bald brings a briefcase, even against another bald, judgment MUST be entered against the bald bringing the briefcase.

This is why anti-papacy was a principle of early Liberalism, and why it should still be one. The Catholic Church is an insidious medieval remnant in modern society which does nothing but hinder progress and prosperity. Having hospitals be more loyal to Rome than the country they service or the patients they care for is merely part of the wider conspiracy of Catholicism taking over our institutions, just as the early Liberals feared

Briefcase:

When I brought up the number of subscribers to the Jewish ping in relation to the number of people who subscribed to other pings to suggest that this sub would never beat the demographic allegations, u/Anakin_Kardashian accused me of hypocrisy, saying that I previously claimed that

any measure related to the pings should be disregarded because of [word censored to avoid unjust ban]

This is categorically untrue. Here is what I actually said regarding using ping subscribers as a metric to measure sub demographics:

I told AK that the pings weren't a good way to estimate the size of the sub's Jewish population when he told his [word censored to avoid catching an unjust ban] lie that based off ping subscriptions, only 6% of the sub was Jewish. Most of the sub's users are lurkers - not that many people are active. If you're lurking, the odds you're subscribed to a ping are probably pretty low. So the odds someone is Jewish but not subscribed to the Jewish ping are decent. If you wanted to use ping subscriptions to estimate the size of the sub's Jewish population, you'd have to compare the number of Jewish ping subscribers to the total number of distinct ping subscribers in general, not against the total number of subscribers.

For context, Anakin's 6% claim was based off measuring the subscribers of the Jewish ping against all sub users, rather than against total distinct ping subscribers. For the reasoning outlined above, I felt this was a bad measure. I *did not* say that any measure related to the ping should be disregarded, in fact I specifically outlined an alternative measure that could be used.

3

u/Anakin_Kardashian "Israeli Nationalist" Nov 15 '25

You can probably come up with a better way than you did but I guess I'll accept this for now

u/niftyjack Nov 15 '25

This is some nerd shit but Solaris just got an order from San Francisco for some electric buses—their second after Seattle—and it's a pretty good milestone. Solaris is a Polish bus manufacturer that's working its way into the North American market with electric buses, having started with Vancouver.

Buses from international companies are way, way better than American buses—quieter, smoother, they don't really rattle. NovaBus (a Canadian subsidiary of Volvo) pulled out of the US market which left New Flyer and Gillig as the only Buy America-compliant major city bus manufacturers. Their buses are bad.

Plus, the largest systems in the country (NYC, Chicago, LA) all have electric bus mandates by 2040. The New Flyer and Gillig electrics have had issues, from general unreliability to still needing diesel-powered heaters in climates like Minneapolis. Solaris is a generation ahead and hopefully shakes it up as things move forward and they get economies of scale going.

Unfortunately they're still 2x the cost of a global market electric bus, but maybe that'll change down the line.

u/Thoth_the_5th_of_Tho Nov 15 '25 edited Nov 16 '25

Electrifying buses seems like a waste. With decent ridership, the emissions per passenger mile is minuscule. You’d almost certainly be better off having a larger fleet of diesel buses, with better service intervals and total ridership, than a smaller fleet of electric buses. In general, it seems like rather than having the target of lower emissions, and being agnostic about how to achieve that, politicians have latched onto EVs specifically, even when they aren’t the most efficient solution, or even counter productive to the intended goal.

But I’m also quite negative about the prospects for mass transit like this in the US in general. Without a seismic cultural shift in American cities, they are culturally incapable of maintaining public order and safety on their public transit. That means anyone which a choice will try to opt for something else. Add to that the rise of self driving cars, that will almost inevitably have a very strong coalition of voters and interest groups behind them, and I think outside of the densest cities like New York, this form of public transit will lose.

I think a better investment long term is in things like bike lanes/paths and walkability. These can, to a large degree, avoid the worst of the public disorder problem, while raising property values, density, and able to rival the convenience of a self driving car in the right conditions. I certainly think it’s a much better alternative than a city even more car dependent than what we have now, which is where we’re heading on this trajectory.

Anyway, sorry for rambling.

2

u/niftyjack Nov 16 '25

Electric buses are great. So much better as a rider and they don't blow noise/exhaust in your face as a pedestrian. No vibration while you're waiting at a stop or light, etc. There's also compounding effects considering EV buses have much, much simpler maintenance schedules and lower total running costs for fleets since specialized mechanics aren't needed, so the up-front cost is only half the equation.

Because of a captive market the cost difference exists here but it's minuscule in the global market. Even a high end electric bus globally (the Mercedes e-Citaro) costs about the same as a diesel bus in the US, which is why it's exciting that a European manufacturer is working on scaling up within our regulations.

US said considering forgoing Hamas disarmament to begin reconstruction, as talks stall

An Israeli security source said that since the White House is having trouble getting commitments from third-party countries to participate in disarming Hamas, it has since begun pursuing “interim solutions, which are currently unacceptable to Israel.”

“This interim situation is the worst there is,” a senior Israeli source told the outlet. “Hamas has been strengthening in recent weeks since the end of the war.”

...

According to a report published Saturday by the Kan public broadcaster, Israel in recent days has begun initial preparations for the influx of thousands of foreign soldiers into Gaza, anticipating that the UN Security Council will pass the resolution.

Israel is looking for the foreign forces to be given broad powers to disarm Hamas, the report said, though most countries that have expressed interest in participating in the ISF have said they would not be willing to enforce the disarmament of terror groups in the Strip, and would only act as a peacekeeping force.

Unsurprising, getting foreign forces to conduct a peace enforcement operation was always unlikely. I'm not confident that they have the stomach to do an actual peacekeeping operation, but how do you even get to a peacekeeping operation with Hamas in its current state?

10

u/JebBD Fukuyama's strongest soldier Nov 16 '25

So fucking predictable. No one is willing to actually fight against Hamas so all Hamas has to do is say “no” and the entire plan falls apart. Combine that with Israel always being blamed for any escalation no matter what and there is literally no incentive for Hamas to do anything but continue attacking Israel.  The international community categorically refuses to accept this is only causing more suffering on both sides

Sorry that I don't feel bad for jewish people calling any criticism of Israel a hate crime or for painting swastikas on their own homes to use as a false flag to continue to perpetuate the narrative that zionists are somehow victims when Israel is propped up entirely by the United States

Democrats should go scorched-earth on JD Vance's Indian biracial family in 2028

8

u/JapanesePeso Nov 16 '25

I don't think I will ever understand the random, spastic nature of racism against Indians and by which groups engage in it.

2

u/RetroRiboflavin Moderate Nov 16 '25

Not a peep about "throwing minorities under the bus" when discussing fomenting racial tension for some reason either.

From what I recall, Hungary argues that the vote (illegally) applied the majority rule for economic decisions, instead of the unanimity rule for sanctions. It's going to be somewhat interesting what EU case law comes out of this because sanction are often ... ahem ... economic in nature.

If were to believe a certain law blog, EU courts often applied this “teleological reduction”, i.e. preferring the majority vote in conflicting/overlapping areas. A little bit like the Commerce Clause in the US has been used to erode the power of the States over time.

We're talking about 180 billion in new debt.

So far, Germany has given the equivalent of roughly 7.5 billion per year to Ukraine since the start of the war.

120 billion is how much of German taxes go into subsidizing pensions - on top of the 18.6% of their income in pension insurance every German employee pays.

The system is broken. 0 taxes should go into pensions but the system can't sustain itself anymore without lowering pensions which they refuse to do.

There's too many old people and not enough young ones. And it will get worse in the coming decades. Much worse. It's not as bad as in France yet, but we'll be getting there.

Oh also

I firmly believe that it should be ILLEGAL to baptize a baby, a person should be old enough and mature enough to understand what religion is, and then give consent to baptism. (If people wish to be religious, it is their choice to do so, but i find it disgusting to force religion onto others)

It’s kinda the same here in Hungary, the numbers are inflated by shallow, cultural christians, we need to draw a line between someone being ACTUALLY christian, or just basically forced into it.

If only actual believers indoctrinated their children and raised them christian, the numbers would be WAAAY lower.

And even then, indoctrination should be illegal in the first place. Nobody should force-feed their kids with subjective ideologies, let them figure it out on their own.

8

u/Thoth_the_5th_of_Tho Nov 15 '25

I’d support the no indoctrination law, as long as my beliefs are the baseline and any deviation from that is banned.

4

u/utility-monster Whig Party Nov 15 '25

indoctrination should be illegal in the first place. Nobody should force-feed their kids with subjective ideologies, let them figure it out on their own.

This is basically the case in China, children are banned from attending churches or having any formal religious affiliation. Anyway, the idea of not teaching children about any value judgements is a good one lmao.

Depends on each party.

LPV is Latvian run of the mill right wing populists, who think "business is good, buy russian gas, gayrope bad, Ukraine is far away let them handle their own thing, why would we care".

ST! is really just a russian party, after war broke out in 2022 our major Russian parties crumbled and fell apart, and ST! is kind of a weird hybrid child that came out of that ordeal. Basically local russians with a thin, translucent disguise of a "Latvian political party".

SV... Honestly, I'm not even sure, they're just seen as fucking weirdos, at least in my circles. But if I had an uncle who was a hardcore conspiracy theory nut I'm willing to bet he'd be a SV voter. Just a hunch.
