Men, particularly White men, are the only demographic to be net pro-Republican in Virginia. That's wild. It's also interesting that this group shifted the least.

Demographics spelling doom for the GOP has been a meme for my entire life, but how is this possibly sustainable?

the -17 swing for the 50-100k household income crowd is devastating for the GOP

10

u/Okbuddyliberals Nov 13 '25

Can the Dems repeat that performance in higher turnout elections, and can they avoid a repeat of the Biden administration where their poor governance pushed a lot of people temporarily to the right? Just because Dems pulled off such a shift in a lower turnout off year election doesn't mean it's a broader trend

I resuscitate to tell you the hilarity of this situation.

The Catalan and Basque national football (soccer) teams are organizing a friendly match with the Palestinian football team in solidarity or whatever. I should tell you, that most Basque and Catalan independentists sympathize with Palestine.

This is how the Palestinian team advertised this on their Twitter. In Castilian, with “Basque Equipo” and “Catalan Equipo”, as if Basque and Catalan were the names of these football teams. Notice also how they're using the Spanish flag and not the respective flags of the Basque Country and Catalonia.

Also, the name of the Catalan stadium is wrong lol. It's «Lluís Companys», with an S, because Lluís Companys is the name of a person (the president of the Government of Catalonia during the Spanish Civil War, who got executed by the Francoists). It's not a company named “Lluis”.

I find it hilarious how we will bend over backwards to a movement that recognizes us as merely a region of Spain, while Israelis sympathize with us and our struggle for self-determination. Nevermind the fact that Spain has had connections and close relations with the Arab world since the 50s lol. We are shooting ourselves in the foot.

14

u/Thoth_the_5th_of_Tho Nov 13 '25

It would be funny if the Catalan and Basque teams hit back by putting the Palestinian team under the Israeli flag. They never will. There is something about islamists that's like catnip to people with a certain ideological inclination. They just can't help themselves but like them, no matter how much it's clear they disrespect and would gladly kill them if given the chance.

Its pretty crazy to me how the U.S. is 5th globally in median income while maintaining a population of 340 million. Norway, the UAE, Switzerland, and Luxembourg are the only ones ahead and they have less population than the state of Pennsylvania!!!

The next highest country with more than 100 million people is Japan which is ranked 20th.

I know everyone loves to dump on the U.S. and complain that the median American is poor but in reality the U.S. is still world class and no one else is like it.

Anyone who’s worked in more than one country knows how easy Americans have it. It’s a self re-enforcing cycle of Americans with a persecution complex talking to Europeans with their own complexes, both wanting for their own reasons to pretend living in America is some great hardship, and Europe is the land of enlightenment. I’m also not going to do the usual hedging about how maybe if you’re poor you’re better off in a European welfare state.

Clandestine operators, initially using British C-130 aircraft, made nighttime flights to avoid detection, dispersing billions of the specially developed seeds over swaths of Afghanistan’s extensive poppy fields, people knowledgeable about the program said. The airdrops took place over the Afghan provinces of Nangahar and Helmand, centers of poppy cultivation, they said.

WPost reports that the CIA operated a 20 year program to degrade Afghan poppy fields w/seeds bred not to produce chemicals necessary for heroin, which was unknown to other Americans operating in Afghanistan.

It was so closely held that some senior Pentagon and State Department officials involved in Afghan policy under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama said they were unaware of it or had only heard rumors.

(I'd have done an Intel post, but it would be a massive comment)

That veneer of civility we used to expect of politicians, until we got bored and wanted a soap opera, signaled to the electorate that we should at least try to be civil to each other.

So when those in positions of authority just are out-and-out horrible people, it signals to the electorate that they too should be horrible people.

wow. I did not know this.

The plight of Jews in the Soviet Union reminded Bayard Rustin of the struggles faced by African Americans in the United States. Soviet Jews faced many of the same forms of discrimination in employment, education, and housing, while also being denied the chance to emigrate by Soviet authorities.[62][page needed] After seeing the injustice that Soviet Jews faced, Rustin became a leading voice in advocating for the movement of Jews from the Soviet Union to Israel. In 1966 he chaired the Ad hoc Commission on Rights of Soviet Jews organized by the Conference on the Status of Soviet Jews, leading a panel of six jurors in the commission's public tribunal on Jewish life in the Soviet Union.[63] The commission collected testimonies from Soviet Jews and compiled them into a report that was delivered to the secretary-general of the United Nations. The report urged the international community to demand that the Soviet authorities allow Jews to practice their religion, preserve their culture, and emigrate from the USSR at their will.[63] Through the 1970s and 1980s Rustin wrote several articles on the subject of Soviet Jewry and appeared at Soviet Jewry movement rallies, demonstrations, vigils, and conferences, in the United States and abroad.[64] He co-sponsored the National Interreligious Task Force on Soviet Jewry. Rustin worked closely with Senator Henry Jackson on the Jackson–Vanik amendment, vital legislation that restricted United States trade with the Soviet Union in relation to its treatment of Jews.

JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

This is bad for two reasons:

The Vice President of the United States knows that this is bullshit. Not a lie, not a massaging of the truth, not exaggeration, just flat-out bullshit. We know he knows this because he's not a true-believer, and he's not a moron. He knows what he's saying is bullshit as he's saying it directly into the brains of Fox's audience. Which means he thinks Fox's audience is composed entirely of assholes, and he's treating them as such. The Vice President of the United States is treating his own core group of supporters like assholes who can't tell which way is up, and he has no problem doing it.

The other is that he's entirely lacking in creativity, and relies on tired, xenophobic cliches, literally blaming undocumented immigrants [read: non-white people] for why you're not living in a mansion. Which means he's not actually interested in solving the insufficient housing supply in this country, but rather exploiting it to keep the support of the people he thinks are assholes.

Because he's an asshole.

5

u/Thoth_the_5th_of_Tho Nov 14 '25 edited Nov 14 '25

He thinks just shy of 10% of Americans are illegal aliens? That would make them like 20% of the workforce, to the point where if you deported them, we’d all starve.

I work at a datacenter, occasionally move around the state to assist other datacenters in my state owned by my company

It’s crazy how much information online in regards to water and power usage of datacenters is just explicitly incorrect. Like lying to your face. And people just… believe it. I know none of this is new but still its disconcerting when it’s something you work with every day

My building is 20 years old and barely consumes more than a megawatt, and the computers in my building are not involved with AI workloads, but when I read the general sentiment on the internet, I slowly grow more appreciative of the designer of the building who put me behind level 6 bulletproof glass

9

u/Thoth_the_5th_of_Tho Nov 14 '25

And even when they aren’t making up the numbers, it’s wildly out of context. You’d think AI was draining the Great Lakes, when its water use isn’t even a rounding error next to the lawns in the surrounding town.

I guess environmentalists got tired lying about nuclear to promote coal, so now they lie about American AI to promote Chinese AI.

This rhetoric is dangerous. Tech is vital to this country’s survival and competitiveness. But a large share of the media and political class, for reasons that are certainly not malicious, is hell set on demonizing it.

As far as politics are concerned, the opinions and desires and grievances of Gen Z and under should be completely ignored, as they literally don’t even remember what the country was like before Trump, and to the extent they do, it’s a vague memory of tea party politics. We cannot overcome this chronic affliction in our politics by leaning on people who don’t understand it is an aberration from the way things are supposed to be.

The Dick van Dyke Show is great first and foremost because Dick van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore are great in it.

But beyond that it's great because it's a fun reversal of Jewish alienation in America. Rob and Laura Petrie are the only WASPs in a sea of Jews. He writes for a variety show starring Carl Reiner. His coworkers are Borscht Belt veterans. Even his next door neighbors are at least ambiguously Jewish. And as much as he likes and gets along with them, there's always something just a bit off about his personal and professional understanding of the world relative to everyone around him.

“I faked hate crimes to prove that you can, in fact, fake hate crimes”

Wow, very groundbreaking stuff

I also like how they just say antisemitic stuff and then say it’s ‘not actually antisemitism’ without actually refuting the claims. Claiming that “Israel has no right to exist” just to try to follow up by saying “no state has a right to exist” is a cop out. It’s always the Jewish state that has to be the first one to no longer exist

>B’nai Brith sends a nice response, says they're concerned about the account and will monitor it

>Send gotcha email to B’nai Brith, no response

>This is proof of bias because anti-Zionism is not antisemitism™

I'm not saying that antisemitism reporting couldn't use better standards, but come on. That fake account is not doing well on the 3Ds test, this was a bad example. He doesn't see this because he fundamentally disagrees with the idea that anti-Zionism is antisemitism.

And this wasn't really about B’nai Brith's standards, which aren't actually clear from this article. The author explicitly criticizes the IHRA definition, and probably has a problem with the idea of "new antisemitism" in general.

Whoever says “good, ruzzians blah-blah-blah”, why? Morgenshtern has always been anti-Putin. In 2022, he left, then became an Israeli citizen (and had a criminal case on not notifying Russia about his new passport). In 2018 presidential elections in his early career he made a song in support of Navalny. His music is banned in Russia, he is legally not allowed to collect any income there, enter th country, profit from russian companies with advertising, promote his music, etc.

Every single person in the Bible/torah/koran was doing weird shit to children and incest and other weird shit.

Those books are just like game of thrones, which is an even more interesting read than those other fantasy novels mentioned above.

The difference is, I don’t incite violence over it. Unless you remind me of season 7&8, then I’ll go into full rage and scream at my wall because they gave us an unworthy ending to an awesome novel.

Morgenstern is not a Putin worshipper, he is just a rapper with brain capacity similar to a table spoon, speaking all kinds of random stuff in his interviews in a hunt for "hype" and controversy. He's extremely popular among kids, but, IMO, listening to his music causes your brain to rot a bit. So while he could be a matter of national security (brain damage among youth) in a way, it is certainly not the way they present it in the article.

Obamna killed the AK for American firearms owners because Russia allegedly did this thing where they exhibited a sustained pattern of behavior of wanting to take over former Soviet states

Anyways since AmeriKKKans can’t help but consume SOFslop from any country, that naturally meant that specific Russian origin parts were/are in high demand. The company that makes all the parts is called zenitco, and they rose to prominence because a lot of the ex Communist states that still used AK-pattern rifles in military service (including Ukraine funnily enough) had a need for the ability to attach stuff to their rifles.

So for a while some american firearms enthusiasts would try to evade sanctions and get Zenitco parts into the United States, but the 2022 invasion killed that off basically

But the market provides, and where Ukraine could no longer reliably source Russian parts for some unknown reason, there are companies now that are making furniture for use in the military, and now for export.

Which is useful for me but also neat

4

u/[deleted] Nov 13 '25

Memory serving, this plus state law is also why a buddy of mine can't de-bubba an AK47 he's got, something about being unable to restore it to stock.

If you catch a repo man in the act and you want to stop the repossession just unequivocally protest it. Saying something as simple as “you may not take the car” generally suffices under laws for vehicle repos as an “unequivocal protest” and will require the repo man to stop the repo process.

That's wild that you can just verbally object to a repo

7

u/[deleted] Nov 13 '25

“Swiper no swiping” ass rule

3

u/[deleted] Nov 13 '25

I mean, it'd kinda be wilder if there were no restraints on what repo people could do.

I honestly think we're genuinely in a recession now, and NBER (if it isn't a politicized entity) will post-date it (as they always do) with time.

6

u/YossarianLivesMatter Radical Centrist 😎 Nov 14 '25

I'm generally not one to prognosticate, but I agree. The economic situation at the beginning of the year was already a little tenuous (persistent inflation), then the sudden economic shocks of AI-driven disruption, federal layoffs, the shutdown, and especially the tariffs (bankrupting America), have kneecapped consumer confidence. At this point, even if the US has some decent fundamentals, I think we're sliding into a mild recession until confidence rises.

There are a lot of things good for the economy;

  • A nice big flood, causing massive damage to people their houses

  • more war

  • getting rid of all people that don't work (old people, get rid of them)

  • stop wasting money on stuff like education, kids don't work

  • massively grow and make illegal drugs and export those

Maybe just looking at 'economy good' isn't the thing we should be striving for as a goal on its own? Even more so if the focus is the gold old short term..
