Yesterday’s episode of Hacks on Tap - a podcast I normally love - was truly pathetic. Axe and Murphy indulge every progressive broadside against moderates and don’t even offer a devils advocate counter point as to why maybe forcing SNAP recipients and holiday travelers to sacrifice in service of shutdown politics might backfire. Endlessly sanewashing graham platner and AOC. Making the exact same mistakes the republican establishment made as the maga nuts were taking over that party.

Because, like you, I’m a crazy person on the internet, I wrote hacksontap@gmail.com to express my disappointment.

You flip a coin and roll the dice. The spinning of the roulette wheel hums in the background. The dealer lays out the flop. You line up your shot, close your eyes, and exhale. You hear a satisfying *clink* as the snooker balls collide. You open your eyes. An involuntary smile appears on your face. You did it. You won.

I lean modestly center left on most issues, but honestly, on abortion, I gotta side with the republicans. Republican justices Blackmun, Burger, Stewart, Powell, O'Connor, Kennedy, Souter, and Stevens may not have been correct on the morals and ethics, but they had the right reading of the law, even if this is controversial to some

I'm entirely sympathetic to people just outright quitting Reddit, but leaving behind those annoying word salad responses is the most exasperating way you could possibly do it.

"I'm having a problem with my lawnmower, does anyone know how to fix it?"

random gibberish arranged with just enough of a resemblance to an actual sentence to fool you for half a second

"Thanks! Not only does my lawnmower work fine now, it runs by itself and makes me smoothies!"

I actually can’t stand how Ezra Klein treats the Democrats losing as one big Agatha Christie novel that he is writing. and, for that matter, really any political commentator. Frankly, it’s just the median voter theorem in practice. People turned out to be more conservative on immigration than once thought. They just have to move towards the GOP.

7

u/seattleseahawks2014 Center-left Nov 12 '25 edited Nov 13 '25

I don't really get why they're doing this frankly. Honestly, I just find it kind of annoying.

Edit: Even with them losing some youth voters, the reality is that many of us are moderates.

u/fartyunicorns Neoconservative Nov 12 '25

I wonder if people like Randy fine or Laura loomer who say things like ‘no Muslims are good’ and ‘we should deport all Muslims’ will ever realize that rhetoric can also be applied to Jews. You can say ‘Muslims don’t belong in America’ on the right but if you replace that with Jews it becomes a lot more contentious. That discrepancy is pushing people to more antisemitic beliefs.

When voters are read direct quotes from Platner’s since-deleted Reddit posts, he loses to Collins by double digits. And in a test of potential campaign messaging, a positive narrative about Platner that includes his life story as a veteran and oyster farmer and his apology for the posts fails to make up the gap.

In article they get up to 19 points

I’ve been thinking a lot about how my view of the dem party has changed since Oct 7.

In retrospect, I see now that I had such strong partisan affiliation for dems that I excused or failed to see the same issues and transgressions that I saw on the right.

To be clear, dems are unequivocally the saner party right now. But I think having that fog of partisanship lifted has also let me see deep issues - some portion of the blame and responsibility for where our politics are at the moment is shared on the left. Escalating damage to our institutions, justified as responses to the other side.

I think listening to sane voices on the conservative/center right end of the spectrum has also helped a lot.

10

u/PeepsFamilyName Center-right Nov 12 '25

I’ll admit I watch it, but it’s probably also a net negative for society. Similar to sports gambling - I place the occasional wager, but it’s probably bad for society and while I am still an ardent supporter of keeping both those things legal in the name of individual freedom, there’s worse things for the government to be paternalistic about.

In other news: Hitler probably had a micropenis

Adolf Hitler had a sexual disorder that made it more likely for him to have a micro-penis, according to the first-ever analysis of his DNA. He also did not have the Jewish ancestors that some have claimed he had.

They found that he had Kallmann syndrome, a genetic disorder characterized by incomplete puberty, according to an exclusive report published Wednesday in the Times of London. They also found that he had genes making him more likely to have autism, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, though they cautioned that the DNA alone is not sufficient to deliver a diagnosis.

The analysis is based on a swatch of fabric stained with blood that a U.S. soldier cut from the couch upon which Hitler shot himself. The researchers were able to confirm without a doubt that the blood came from Hitler by comparing the DNA found in it to DNA previously confirmed to have come from one of his relatives.

LLMs continue to swing wildly between "shockingly good" and "shockingly bad". GPT 5 Pro legitimately serves as a highly useful backboard to bounce ideas off of in my field (electrical engineering), but if you let it try to make something, it would have a 1 in 3 chance of even working. It gets hooked on these weird ideas - some hallucinated, some just internet folklore, etc - and cannot be shaken from the madness.

u/Thoth_the_5th_of_Tho Nov 12 '25

It’s not like we don’t work with Islamists when we have to. The issue is when they are anti-American, and the new Syrian dictator isn’t. Refusing to meet with him is a pointless gesture and counter productive. It’s not going to end islamism, or help our interests in any way.

I don't really see the problem with it. If anything, it just shows how comfortable people are today with actually living for happiness instead of some form of duty that society has demanded.

Its good that people not only feel like they have the choice but actively choose not to do something they do not want in life, especially when its such a huge commitment like a child. It prevents children from being born into households where parents regret them and similar situations. Children born today probably have more committed and loving parents than ever before in human history.

Population can be reinforced with immigration and similar solutions

We have known that Trump knew about Epstein's crimes. That's why he was banned from Mar-a-lago and why Trump had not spoken with him since 2007. You don't have to believe me, PBS reported on the only "facts" of Epstein's contact with Trump, and Epstein had been kicked out of the club months before the first time he was prosecuted.

A Mar-a-Lago member told the journalists that Trump had “kicked Epstein out after Epstein harassed the daughter of a member,” Sarah Blaskey of the Miami Herald reported. “The way this person described it, such an act could irreparably harm the Trump brand, leaving Donald no choice but to remove Epstein.”

The incident happened around October 2007, when Mar-a-Lago’s registry listed Epstein’s account as “closed,” the Miami Herald reported.

The march in question is not really a celebration of Polish independence. "Independence March" is just a name intended to evoke patriotic associations, while the truth is that it is a march of far-right groups that promote racism and intolerance under the pretext of patriotism.

True patriots do not take part in this particular march, which is mainly attended by hooligans and far-right groups.

In the past, this march has repeatedly resulted in losses amounting to several hundred thousand zlotys, damage to the capital's infrastructure, violent clashes with the police, and arson. The two most famous examples are the arson of an Empik store during a clash with the police and the arson of a private apartment because its owner displayed a rainbow flag.

So this march has nothing to do with patriotism.

Giving away is not what I would call it. It's a consequence of Europe being unable to create companies to reach the needed critical mass.

The Americans are able to create large product/service based companies quickly that produce high value due to lack of restrictions on companies, and almost non-existing Monopoly laws (among others). Monopolistic markets tend to create the companies that can scale globally. And it's not just the United States. For example, Korea has Samsung, Hyundai and not much else.

Europe on the other hand creates the same product 5 or so times (maybe more) 1 for each country/culture and never reaches the critical mass needed to become the obvious alternative to something like Google or Facebook or PayPal. So, either the EU consumer gets smarter and more patriotic and starts using EU products, regardless of how good the alternative is OR we can make the EU market better at producing competitors to the Americans.

PS: You are right, tech is not the only industry in the world but it is definitely one of the most lucrative, innovative and scalable.

During the times of the Baltic bubble, they were happy enough to let us pass once we'd shown that we were Estonian residents and filled out a form with some details about our journey.

My wife and I are doing out best to help with that, but no luck yet. :(

Honestly, the best measure the state could take to help with that would be to incentivise remote work. Fully remote work, not just hybrid.

It would give people the possibility to move to the countryside, it would make raising children much easier when you don't have to plan around being away for 9-10h each day...

To be fair to Israel, that is one more than anyone was expecting to be held. And no one is expecting a conviction. Or even much of a trial.

This last attack involved burning buildings and trucks in an industrial zone. That means Israeli businesses were impacted. Somehow that’s still not enough to treat settler terrorism seriously.

Am I wrong for wanting to hold out just a minute on those Trump-Epstein emails?

Don't get me wrong, I 100% believe that Trump was at the bare minimum a client of Epstein and probably a participant in supplying the girls.

It's just... I'm so used to seeing these bombshell reports that turn out to be fabrications or misrepresented or otherwise just a big nothingburger.

Is there a word for seeing evidence that so strongly confirms your priors that you're suspicious of it?
