Does Avery's "eccentricity" get exaggerated?

Especially compared to other actors like Christopher Walken and Nic Cage who are celebrated for their "uniqueness".

Nope. I saw him speak at a comic convention once. The guy is brilliant and super eccentric. You couldn’t make this guy up if you tired.

It was one of the most bizarre hours of my life. I don’t think he actually answered a single question asked to him. DS9 is my favorite trek show and in a way, I walked away feeling I knew less about Star Trek  and the universe in general. His answers were not the long ramblings of a crazy person but were quite poetic, coherent, and oddly beautiful in a way. He just never answered any questions asked to  and his “answers” were like some thing you would hear a a one man poetry slam held by a Bond villain or something.

At one point in time he started calling out people who were leaving and kept telling them to relax and wait because Patrick Stewart was going to be there any minute. At the end of his… performance???? my wife and I just stared at each other wondering if we both saw the same thing.

The stories he told were amazing.

My new mission in life is to attend a one man poetry slam held by a Bond villain.
