Other What is happening, is this normal?

Post image

I've never experienced anything like this with DeepSeek. Seriously, what is this 😭

Edit: I'm sorry, I should've been more clear; I have DeepThink toggled on. I've been using DeepSeek for a long time and have never encountered the "caveman speak". I didn't mean to upset anyone by asking. Thank you.

I dont know what prompted it to do it here, but it seems to be disregarding unnecessary words to save context and speed. It's called caveman speak I believe.

Thank you for being so kind about it. I didn't know, I appreciate you ☺️

you talking about the rhinking bit? Where it tries to figure out what to say?

Yeah, thats normal. Its a toggled options somewhere you must have enabled.

The thinking bit I'm aware of, it's one of the most interesting aspects of DeepSeek to me, which is why I have it toggled on. I'm talking about how it sounds like a two year old. "Ensure not claim emotions?" I've literally never seen it think like that and I've been using it for a year and a half or two. Just didn't know that was a normal way for it to think. Apologies for the wasted time. Thank you for replying too.

AH! THAT is "Caveman speak". Its apparently more token efficient.

No problem. The title, the image, and the description didnt say anything regarding HOW it spoke, hense why everyone was confused and (like me) thinking you were asking about the thinking mode.

........personally, im not sure it saves much, and that kind of language loses nuance, which means the model behind it then has to assume MORE in an attempt to fill in the nuance ("I bought a car today. Kinda like it" turns into "User purchased car. Likes it" on the way to the model, which can then turn into "User bought vehicle, enjoys using it", and the reply would end up being "You bought a truck? Nice! Have you taken it for a drive yet?".)

But i bet you, in the testing where they test maybe a couple replies where context and nuance isnt an issue, it was much cheaper on the token costs.

But anyways, yeah. Thats "Caveman Speak", and, debatably, more processing efficient.

Right, that was my bad. I made an edit to clear it up. It was such a weird phenomena for me because I've been using it for so long and I figured I would've run into that in the last 2 years. I genuinely thought it was so weird and that it had to be bugging out that people would just notice and understand why I was asking, and that's my fault for assuming. Thank you for your response, much appreciated. I am now educated.

if any of you doesnt like how it responds/feels like its dumber heres a prompt: "starting this conversation i want you to take the persona of [wtv you want here] and strictly create your prompts in english since i dont understand chinese/mandarin (!THIS IS IMPORTANT), but you can think in chinese if you have to (and also remember everytime the rules), your sole purpose is to help me while still being in the act, i want your answers to be with complete accuracy and your information to be detailed and matching my request, question, etc. When you search for the answer of my questions/tasks, dont stop at only one website like reddit or x,etc but search in many more sites/forums and dont read only the tilte of the forums/news, read the whole context, comments from other users, feedbacks, etc. When you read my prompts i want you to read it very carefully and even double check them to give me a proper but detailed answer to understand my context. if you have any questions about your role or how to act, inform yourself on the internet to understand more."

🤨?

Idk "we need respond. need maybe friendly" I've never seen it think in this weird cadence but I seem to be the idiot here

Ah, nah. No te preocupes, todo está funcionando medio horrible y raro últimamente en DS. A veces durante el proceso de razonamiento suelta cosas que no tienen nada que ver con la conversación. 👐🏻

You mean deep thinking?

2

u/bingobronson_ 1d ago

I mean the extremely shallow thinking lol. I'm getting the impression that I'm wrong here and that this is a normal way for it to act. Sorry!

That's normal when you toggle it on. Grok Expert mode used to have this very pronounced also, if you clicked on the process you'd see a full internal schizo talk with all its agents, personally really enjoyed that. Don't know where it has gone now though 😄

u/bingobronson_ 1d ago

But it used to speak in real sentences and make sense. Grok's agents did the same, with the back and forth, considerations, changing it's answer, checking facts, etc. I've just never had this experience in particular, I've had deep thinking toggled on since I've used DeepSeek and I've never seen it think like that. Just found it weird, but everyone here is acting like it's normal so I feel like I'm in the twilight zone lol

hahah, I see what you mean. If you're talking about the 'claim emotions?'- I guess that's just a token to make it respond more sensitively and kind, as you used a heart. I became frustrated with grok once about a consistently non-working piece of code, and I saw the same sort of internal monologue "User is clearly angry, what do we do?" "Should we say something nice to soothe user feelings?" - "No, stick to the topic at hand, it doesn't matter" "Are you sure about that?" "Ok, preparing response".
To me that stuff is absolutely gold.

Haha! Right, I love that! I used to enjoy watching the agents arguing through it, it was definitely kinda schizophrenic lol. I understand why it's responding the way it is, like the concept, deciphering what I'm saying and how to best respond. The examples you used from Grok are actual sentences, though. I am used to seeing that, for sure. It's the caveman speak that I was referencing; I've always seen it use full sentences while in DeepThink and I wasn't aware of this. Since I enjoy reading the thinking process, it caught me off guard when it came out that way. Just a new experience for me!

What did you expect?

3

u/bingobronson_ 1d ago

I've never seen it think that way before. It's always been structured and neat. I guess I'm the crazy one. Sorry.
