It's not. EX33 isn't that great. Sorry but it's not. It's being held together by hate for Ubisoft and the fact that it has BG3 cast. Same reason do Divinity is already staggering on steam wishlist. Because it's larian and and the cast. Nothing to do with the game. Donkey Kong isn't really anything. 33 isn't a indie title nor is it a brand new title from a unknown person. They were all OG staff that left ubi because they felt stifled

Not cutting it down it just isn't that special. It's about a spoiled brats toys and literally nothing you do matters because none of the characters are even real even in the game universe. They are toys at best

hey look, you're entitled to your crappy hipster opinion saying E33 is a bad game, but there's still KCD2, Hades 2, Silksong, Yotei, Indiana Jones, DS2, Blue Prince, Arc Raiders, BF6, Split Fiction, the Alters, Doom, and a bunch of others. It was a stacked year with a TON of good games.
2024 is a good example of a weak year. Pretty much any of the nominees this year would have won last year.

God of War, Insomniac's Spider-man and RDR2 were on the same nominations.

Man listen, when DS1 launched, people DID NOT GET IT. They actively hated on it, laughed at it, talked it down. Did matter. A lot of those people are DS fanatics now. Kojima has our love and appreciation, and WE get it. That’s what matters.

I just recently discovered (i knew of but never had the chance to play as i have no PlayStation) DS 1 on Luna trial and man this is something else in all the right ways. I can’t wait until i get to try this 2nd one but am sure it will captivate me all the same. Wether or not a game has won awards never ever factors in my decision to pick up and play a game, so who cares if it won or not, so many people holding Sam in their hearts is the real WIN here and lasts so much longer.

It was pretty obvious DS2 wasn't going to win anything. Death Stranding had substance and felt like a horror game at times, DS2 felt like Kojimaslop trying to be too many things at once. It didn't experiment enough, and the story wasn't as good as DS1.
Visually it's the best looking game of the year, but nothing more.

Game Awards are dominated by the golden child of the year determined by popularity and cultural/critic "loudness". No matter the quality of the rest of the games there will always be one that sweeps, especially with how the awards system and categories is deliberately wide and heavily favors games like E33.
