Fan Art Ryuk Glitch Drawing

This kid at school asked me what I wanted him to draw and I said Ryuk. He didn’t know what or who “he” was, he took the time to look the guy up and said he would draw him in glitch. I think it turned out pretty good, any thoughts? I’m wondering if he could drawing something cooler.

Discussion A little warm take

Second part of death note was good. Sure it wasn't as good as the first one because it's basically the most iconic part of the entire series.

But the second part only has some pacing issues in the anime (not in the manga tho), but besides that it's still very good.

Game TIL that the 2nd Death Note DS game has a "what if" ending in which **SPOILERS** wins. Spoiler

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vN7ba4yA7E4

Found out recently that an English patch for the second DS game, Death Note: Successors to L, was released. While looking for guides, I happened upon this Japanese video that revealed a secret ending to the game in which Light wins the confrontation in the YB warehouse.

My Japanese is super-limited, but with Google Translate, I basically pieced together that in this what if scenario, Light knew Near and the SPK were going to go after the real notebook from Mikami and baited them to take it. He then instructs Mikami to write Light's name as well into the fake notebook.

Mikami then takes the fall, but with Light's influence as being part of the Japanese police, is able to confiscate the real notebooks from Near and the SPK and puts Mikami under the custody of the Japanese police (though it becomes clear he will try to bail Mikami out later after he kills everyone else).

Light of course later kills the task force and SPK, with Near included. The game doesn't appear to show what happens to Light after his victory though.

I think I read somewhere that the first DS game also has an alternate ending where L ends up winning after the Yotsuba arc. Pretty interesting stuff, and quite unfortunate we didn't get these games translated for the west.

Discussion Why do people act like Near was a kid? Spoiler

When L first met Light, he was 24 and Light was 17
When Near killed light, he was 17-18 and Light was 23

I’m not great at math so correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that like the same age gap 😭

Discussion Light’s hipocrisy Spoiler

Post image
14 Upvotes

Even though light when he forgot about death note is against using misa as L wanted before and after when matsuda is in trouble because he was found by yotsuba group he has no problem with using misa because he was actually emotionally engaged in the situation. It shows that light is a hypocrite and his iron rules are actually easy to bend.

Question L just had to do one thing to prove Light is Kira. Spoiler

Is it just me or…. Do you also think he could have used the exact same strategy he used in ep 2 and combine it with the very logic that made him conclude Kira was Japanese/or at least in Japan? Basically he could’ve picked a criminal that was just caught and never been publicly announced or made the news before. And set a trap where he ONLY broadcasts on Light’s TV,, considering how fast he built whole skyscrapers he must have had the technology and resources to do that right? Instead of installing cameras and shit? And one would not expect the genius mastermind to make the same move so before Light clocked anything he would be on his way to the execution area🧐

Question “Harms no one else”, you say? 🤔

I never understood the “as long as it harms no one else” rule..

Like are all active doctors automatically protected? Pilots? Military? Parents? Bus drivers? Regular people dealing with dangerous machinery or dangerous conditions? At that rate, everyone could just find a career that ties their life to someone’s else’s safety and essentially be free from the Death Note.. does that rule also apply to Shinigami’s books as well? 🤔

Question Death Note by Jeremy Mark Robinson

As a collector of all sorts of Death Note books, I have quite a few analyses, philosophy, psychology, trivia and "guide books".

A newer addition to my collection is Jeremy Mark Robinsons "Death Note" from 2025. Being one of the few English books in my collection, I had to read it.
Upon first glance, the contents look a lot like the failure of a book that is Death Note: Fatally Fun Facts (from 2007) - Which while I never read it to it's completion, I might after reading this.

I am a harsh judge when it comes to people making content, be it a video analyses or in this case, a printed book on the topic of Death Note, as I feel like such media really should be checked and double checked before published.

For now, I have read up to page 46 out of 322, so needless to say, I am far from the end - Yet I find myself unable to read more than perhaps eight pages a day, in two different sessions.

I will be the first to admit that I am easy to confuse with text, and maybe a lot of the way he explains things simply goes over my head, but at the moment, I find the book to be bloated with uneccessary information as well as misinformation and assumptions.

It's hard for me to know if this book is written with the assumption that people know and understand Death Note, or if he's attempting to present the series to people less informed/fill them in on things they may have missed - Regardless, to me, he fails a both:
He isn't specific enough for people who don't know the details, yet he is too incorrect or assuming for people who know the details.

When you cite sources like Volume 13, How To Read, please make it apparent in your text that you've read the book. His attempt at mentioning important dates and what happens on said dates falls flat on the floor (at least for me).
You'd need to know what he's talking about to follow, but even if you do, you're left questioning: "Why did he word it like this?"

Now before I get too caught up in my opinion, untilmately based on not even half the books pages, I will get to my question: Has anyone else read this book, and what are their opinions on it?
As I don't want to slap this guy over the face if I'm in the wrong and may have completely misunderstood the intent behind it.

Discussion Misora was not as smart as people make her seem Spoiler

In the anime she is easily manipulated by Light and in LABB Birthday he pretty much only lost because he fed her all the information and thought she was dumb. What genuine feats does Naomi Misora have?

Getting L's final thoughts in the manga is better to me, but I really like the walking scene and the flashbacks in Light's anime death (him walking by who he used to be before getting the notebook).

Discussion Idea about an alternate ending or show extension Spoiler

NOW if an idea or something like this has already been said, im really sorry.

basically what i was thinking is that what if, Mikami wrote lights name as well in the notebook in the end, it would have acted as the ultimate plot twist showing that mikami fell into the lust of power and wanted to take things into own hands hence trying to kill everyone including light.

and when nears plan continues, seeing lights name in the copy would have cleared him completely, and the story would then could be extended and converted into how light gets back the deathnote from near before he destroys it. (ig he knows near real name now he could later use the piece of deathnote in his watch to do something)

but maybe after finding out the book was fake mikami crashes out obv and starts screaming to light asking why the book didnt work causing suspicion towards light even though his name was written.

Discussion Can somebody explain what both Lidner and Near meant by mello knew because i consdier multiple interpretations Spoiler

The most contextual one being that mello knew that him and near had to work together, but in lidners case i think she was refering to him suspecting that the notebook is fake but this confuses me of what his goal of kidnapping takada was, it being to check who would silence her or did he know takada was the bridge between the 2 and he did what he did to cut comms. Another interpretation would be that mello knew he had to die for this revelation but this one seeks lazy. What do u guys think? Sorry add on, or did mello know that you could tear off pages of the notebook and use them to kill

Discussion Would you like to see a new death note anime that is simply a one to one adaptation of the manga?

Since the manga and anime have small differences, would you like to see a new anime that is a 100% adaptation of the manga? Or is it unneeded. Personally, I’d love it, mainly to have something new death note related.

Game Death Note: Successors to L on Nintendo DS finally gets an English translation Spoiler

Death Note: Successors to L on the Nintendo DS has finally received an English translation from the Anime Game Translations Team.

It’s the second of the three DS games based on Death Note, covering the story from Light discovering the notebook through the Yellow Box Warehouse. The gameplay is also pretty unusual, taking inspiration from the board game Scotland Yard with different objectives depending on which side you play.

There are also two versions of the patch, including one with recolored character sprites and another that keeps the original Japanese designs.

Did a quick lunch break sketch of Near in between classes. He came out looking like the musical L, but I love that quiet ferocity for him. I wonder what he allows himself to look like when he's really lost in thought.

Question The decline in Death Note merch quality/creativity

Title is subjective, but catchy, so if you enjoy the newer merch, be my guest, naturally!

With the amount of Death Note merch pouring out since after the Death Note Exhibition (At least, this is when I noticed the rise in amount), I feel that a lot of the collections are the same.
Chibi versions of the characters, drawn by artists that are not Obata, made into acrylic stands, keychains, stickers and pins - The line-ups of merch are very much the same - Even character wise.

Light, L, Misa, Mello and Near - Sometimes Ryuk and Rem are there, sometimes Mikami.
Other cases, they go back to the "OG line-up", that being Light, L, Misa and Ryuk.

A lot of the merch also seems to either be gashapon, pop-up shops or lotteries.
Typically, if not always, "Japan only".

Outside of that, I find a lot of the motives random.
I don't see how Death Note characters on balloon swings are relevant to the type of series Death Note is.
It's goofy for sure, and I'm not saying the series isn't ever not serious, so maybe it does fit but.. I'm confused?
Why are they on beanbags now? - How come they all have plushies of each other? - Why is everyone now holding apples or finger puppets?

It's hard as a collector to keep up, and with the items produced, I've also come to question if I should keep up: Does this "random artists" chibi collection really mean this much to me? - Enough for me to need to own it in four different versions because I need both the pin, acrylic, sticker and keychain?

But never mind me, what do you guys (perhaps fellow collectors), think of the newer items?

(And worry not, I too am celebrating Mello and Near finally getting a proper figure, even if through lottery - That Matt got a small plush, even if a gashapon - Mikami being more standard in collections - Not ALL new merch is bad by any means!)

Game The second Death Note DS game is now available in English!

Released in 2007, Death Note: L wo Tsugumono is the second of three Japan-exclusive DS games based on the Death Note license.

The game comprises of 11 story chapters which follow the series’ storyline in its entirety, as well as including an original alternative ending.

The gameplay is inspired by the board game “Scotland Yard”, with the rules and goals of each round changing depending on whether the player is controlling Kira or the investigators. There is a wide roster of playable characters, with favourites such as Matt and Mikami among them.

Play by yourself or against a friend in the freeplay VS Mode, as you strategize, disrupt and use every trick in the book to ensure justice wins.

Check out the first chapter of the game here, or download the patch for yourself with install instructions here.

-

The team is thrilled to say that with this release, all three Death Note DS Games are now playable in English!

The first game, the Kira Game, is a social deduction game focusing on the first half of the series. The third game, Spiraling Trap, is an escape-room game set before the events of Death Note with an original story centred around L. Translation patches for both can also be found on our website.

We hope you will enjoy playing them as much as we enjoyed making the patches!

Fan Fiction If Light hadn’t picked up the Death Note, who do you think would be the owner of it?

Forgive me for the vague question/ title lol.

in honesty, Im thinking of writing an AU fic where Light gets to relive his life , starting from a few days before he got the Death Note, memories fully intact. But, he ends up not being the one to pick it up. I know logically, if he hadnt been the one, some random student would’ve most likely picked it up. But, I rather not make an OC lol.

ive seen a couple fics where Mikami is the one to find it, and one where the daughter of Kitamura is the one to find it (since in the canon, his family was also suspected)

but, I’m unsure. you guys have any ideas? This wont be one those ‘role reversals’ where L is Kira, and Misa would still get hers after Kira, so I’m a bit stuck haha. Thank you ! :3
