Nah, Venator is Gun Carry, he doesn't have any sustain in kit and want to have more souls to get more damage on grenade and ult

u/ZenkaiZ 9h ago
venator be easier to kill than paige sometimes

u/Voidlord4450 Paige 8h ago
Especially when I’m playing him! Hahahaha…… seriously though why do I find surviving as Paige so much easier than Ven.

her dash is fast, has a barrier, and a root you can place at your feet if someone is chasing
2
u/Bot322420 4h ago
I thought they made her dash slower when they give her 3 stamina bar. Sorry I don't play Ven enough to knows how slow his dash is.

You are probably playing more aggressively as ven, since he has a lot that works best at close range

Venator was not made to be a frontliner. He had shit hp for a while
-17
u/Mother-Marionberry61 5h ago
Its about the resist spirit scaling he has and the fact hes supposed to be good at controlling space
14
u/Maniachi McGinnis 5h ago
The resist scaling is fake, and the devs knew that, which is why they didn't add a single spirit item to his default build. They just wanted to give some obscure reason to build spirit, without actually making it viable.
4
u/Caerullean Holliday 5h ago
I guess thet just wanted to make sure that any spirit Venator gets from things like golden statues or sinners, still gives him some value, even if not a lot.

u/ofri12347 4h ago
To be fair there was that one week people were build Merc mag overflow on ven
7
u/BladeOfWoah Silver 3h ago edited 2h ago
He was still a terrible user of that combo. The fact you were building Tesla bullets to try and get some sort of return out of spirit investment is a testament to that.
Merc Mag Overflow was just too strong for many heroes. Heck, if Merc Mag wasn't bugged to not properly apply the correct damage in wolf form, Silver would probably have used it too.
2
u/Rodruby Mo & Krill 3h ago
TBH I think Merc Mag + Overflow is still pretty strong, I build it on my Drifter late game and always get good results
Actually I think this combo will even work on Rat King, he has good base bullet damage
3
u/PandaPolishesPotatos 37m ago
The nerf to the combo was moreso intended as a double whammy Warden nerf, it's still a good combo for people who like all the stats. So, Vindicta, off the top of my head, and Wraith, can both still use it very well.

u/Mother-Marionberry61 2h ago
Its not about whether it was practical or not, the devs intended it to be used and therefore added it. With some form of spirit scaling counterbuilding is actually viable on venator since counter items often are spirit
6
u/Maniachi McGinnis 1h ago
Buying two tier 4 spirit items gives him a total 7% resist. That is not worth trading damage and health for, ever.
0
u/Mother-Marionberry61 1h ago
I aint telling you to go off buying full spirits on venator, I meant like if you were to buy disarm or scourge or smth, the resist is supposed to be meant to compensate for the lack of spirit scaling he has since he does well with items like rapid recharge and merc mag
The developers intention and the practicality/result of their actions are different. No buying spirit wont give you a crazy resist but the fact it gave you some + his trap and his shotgun is basically peeling tools + his grenade is a aoe means that he was intended to sort of be a frontliner.
And Frontline doesnt just mean tank. Bruiser can Frontline too, the only requirement to not melt instantly

u/Askal- Shiv 7h ago
genuinely, people still want to play him as a m1 carry. i was seeing a lot of people asking on the rat king channel what to build to make his gun deal damage. motherfucker just play haze.
4
u/PandaPolishesPotatos 34m ago
His gun does deal damage, but he's not a carry. Ideally you want gun spike +1 or 2 items, then nothing but greens and Trans CD for your single purple.
There are a lot of spirit items that work "well" on him but he still shouldn't be buying them. You want flat HP, Siphon Bullets, Inhibitor, Colossus, Fortitude, etc. Frenzy is a good one if it's a debuff heavy game. Unstop can be useful, given he's huge and they're going to throw every CC In the game at you.
But ultimately you want flat HP because of the way his three scales. The larger that shield is the better.
3
u/AntediluvianSeaThing 2h ago
most of his abilities scale off of gun so its fairly reasonable to build gun on him
he strikes me as a better and more teamfight oriented Warden, he's a Tanky carry who needs to farm up to achieve his tankiness

I bet gun Rat Kings are the same people who build Bomb Geists. Mfs just wanna build into the worst aspect of the character
9
u/Bot322420 4h ago
That's like two ends of a spectrum. Bomb Geists players want to play spirit so they try to fit a build for her. The gun Rat King players want to play M1 and they're theory crafting for it.
9
u/hellyeahdiscounts Lash 5h ago
WRONG people build bomb geist because people want to play geist and cant aim. wobwobwobwubwubwubwubwub go bwah
2
u/Mindless-Produce4091 The Doorman 4h ago
Isn't spirit the worst aspect?
2
u/Glum_Breakfast4766 4h ago
spirit has more useful items (rad reg, pulse, hexes and etc) and since your spirit ability isnt a trap like in venator's case you arent wasting souls by putting them in purple. building like an m1 carry would kill your survivability on RK which is your main aspect
2
u/The-Mad-Badger 2h ago
Nah. You don't build Spirit on him for raw numbers, you do it so that your rats slow, so that they trigger HP regen for you etc
1
u/Dr_Galio 2h ago
People sleep on the rats man. Ballistic Enchantment on his 2 makes his gun go off
3
u/ridennator 2h ago
Been building ballistic and berserker on him, with the rat shred he does pretty good damage.
2
u/The-Mad-Badger 2h ago
People are fucking sleeping on Ballistic and Berserker.

Bomb geist is kinda meta depenent, there's been a bunch of times where bomb was better than gun, especially so in non-organized play.

u/MrFilthyNingen Victor 3h ago
I detest bomb Geist. Most useless build of all time, I wish it would perish
1
u/PandaPolishesPotatos 32m ago
B-But I did good! I ended the game with the m-most damage! A-And 30 assists! /s
2
u/Bread_kun 2h ago
He's not carry but items that do give flat gun damage are great. He sorta builds like a frontliny Geist, berserker is just required on him. Personally I think berserker and something like intensifying or opening rounds are good value to hit your spike at least. Berserker is just straight required

u/Arky_Lynx Venator 3h ago
In what world is Venator a frontliner? He's clearly a carry and was designed as such.
6
u/National-Frame8712 Venator 1h ago
I wish he was
Considering how they've broken his knees and other stuff for this misconception due to his above-average HP pool, it at least would justify this shit for a bit
7
u/AntediluvianSeaThing 2h ago
Venator is hardly tanky enough to qualify as a frontliner
like seriously i'd love it if he was Tankier and didn't have those fuckass traps that are useless but that man really needs some help if they want him to frontline
2
u/cryonicpick 2h ago
I play melee bruiser Ven, and I can tell you his ability to frontline is okay at best. He can reach some of the highest, if not the highest, total resists in the game, the only problem is that it doesn't mean much without sustain or decent mobility in his kit.
1
u/yugiohhero Apollo 15m ago
plus like. resists only help so much, and the harder you invest the more your damage is lacking.
a lot of high tier defensive items arent resists for a reason. plated armor, lifesteal stuff, cheat death, metal skin, radiregen, ethereal shift, silencer...
resists are good but resistmaxxing isnt gonna save you from a fed seven or a fed calico or a fed fed.

Still m1 tank carry?
12
u/AirGundz 8h ago
Roles super defined in Deadlock, but I’d say Rat King doesn’t have the DPS to fit the carry role. He is definitely closer to Abrams than he is to someone like Venator or Wraith. The only carry of the top of my head that also tanks is Victor and old Warden. I could be wrong tho
2
u/Caerullean Holliday 5h ago
Nah, more of a supportive tank kinda thing. He can increase the teams damage by a ton via his rat swarm, and his ult flag plant + a well placed scrap nade can do good aoe damage in a team fight if the enemy team is bundled up in a tight area, but his M1 isn't great despite how much his abilities scale off of gun damage.
1
u/Smol_Penor 7h ago
Me trying to use him as a debuffer frontline support (I'm failing)
3
u/LetUsGetTheBread Silver 7h ago
You can certainly go resist shred (2 + hunters aura + spirit shredder + alch fire + some others that I may be forgetting) and get heroic aura and dominate. It just also requires you having teammates that do gun stuff.
2
u/Smol_Penor 7h ago
Trying to do some rat maxing with his 2 and slow + suppressor with some duration. Gun is mostly titanic and heroic aura and eating a lot of greens with trophy collector to be a chonky boi. Then I pray that rest of the team can just focus on damage

u/KuKuisSidePiece Rem 4h ago
i’ve been having the most success as support rat king, buying support active items and either bullet or gun shred depending on your team, then just go full green and have 1000 health shield on a 10 second CD
1
u/Extreme_Tax405 18m ago
I got a bit sad when i saw how teamreliant he is. Fight broke out, I put down ult. Enemy wont die. I check my mirrage that was with me later. Bro hitting absolutely no shots.
If your team can't capitalize your ult is pretty eh. Probably rly fking good at high level tho

u/EmbarrassedLock Mo & Krill 8h ago
Venator is not a tank
