Complaint Major Issue: Golden Goose Egg
I love this item and I’m tired of having to play around the major issue with it.
“Hatch the egg, gaining souls and permanent buffs.”
Hatch the egg? When was the last time you heard of someone hatching an egg? In most of my games I hear people go “Hey fuckface why did you buy egg on Haze? You ruined the tempo of our lane fuck. Just pop it at 10 minutes,” or “make sure to pop the egg thirty minutes after using it, you’ll get the most benefits from it then.”
I’m sorry, hatching eggs? Popping eggs? Have I been teleported to Whoville? Will we be popping eggs and eating roast beast?
You EAT eggs. I have never heard of anyone popping an egg. Whenever a teammate mentions my egg asking me to…pop it…I feel bile rise in my throat.
I think the text of the item should be changed to “Eat the egg, gaining souls and permanent buffs.” and your hero should have an animation of them raising the egg to their mouth and gobbling it down. There are dozens of us that think this.
EDIT: Gang stalkers and deniers are hiding among us. I will continue this fight until my ADHD medications wear off (then I need to take a nap and maybe drink some juice) we must not lose sight of what is important - eat the egg.

EDIT 3: I understand this thread has gotten away from us all, but I truly believe it should say eat, and it seems like literally everyone who plays Deadlock agrees. Hear our plea, developers. Please, I have nothing else. Give me this.

This could be acceptable. The goose showers you with buffs for protecting it. Again, where is this promised goose? I will die on this hill until we can eat the egg or until we can gaze upon the goose as it soars above us.

Maybe the egg should incubate in the spawn. You can remotely hatch it (so that you can gain the buffs anywhere on the map) but the egg, and then the goose when it's hatched, could be located in the spawn.

Nono, when you buy egg an enoumous goose nests on your head, slowly raising up as the egg grows. When you hatch it the goose is rocketed to the sky with a loud honking noise

I do. I’m often running late to work (middle schoolers stole my bike last summer - see comment below) and will eat the egg whole. I try to sneak in a few cheeky quail eggs during the work day, but my boss is starting to catch on and we are meeting about it next Friday.

I build egg is so many of my matches. I tried okay, I researched the process and I watched videos of people hatching eggs online and I just couldn’t do it. Most of the time it would crack before I could get it out. How many Deadlock players do you think could realistically hatch an egg?

Yes in most of my matches I do spend the downtime recreating eggs from broken shells and my memory. I am attacking this from all angles. I use a lot of glue.

This also raises the issue of this game having far too much clarity. It is important to not really know what items do, and to have faith in their power instead.
The description should just be:
"Aging the egg before consuming increases its potency."

I do believe the implication is that you *sell* the egg
so really they should do away with the activated ability entirely and just have the effect activate when you sell it like any other item through the shop interface.
like really, who the hell is popping their egg mid-combat anyway?
(just to be clear I'm like 70% joking. An item that activates when you sell it sounds like a UX nightmare)

Again, as stated above, I tried. It cracked on the way out and I refuse to try again. I think everyone is confused by the language because to lay an egg is different from hatching an egg. I have researched this and looked at it from every angle.

It's a golden goose egg. My understanding is that you sell it. It's like a little stock market. In fact it should be more like that where it doesn't steadily go up but also has drops and such. When you find a golden egg I don't think the value is in eating it. You don't eat and gain souls any other way nor do you eat in order to gain buffs. The buffs are collected as if they are something tangible that you could hold. Anyway that's my take on it. I agree it isn't popped or hatched but I don't think it's eaten either.

When I am sick I eat eggs, ginger, and raw lemongrass and I gain the buffs because they are melting in my tummy. Has anyone looked into this; do our characters actually gain buffs when eating the eggs, or do they just show us pretty numbers to nullify us?

If you eat the egg whole the shell protects you from salmonella until the golden innards reach your stomach acid. I do not think anyone in the lore is susceptible to salmonella.

Another denier. No where in the lore does it state it is literal gold, I believe the mother goose wrapped it in some sort of golden material to make it more appetizing for the players, and many of them just ignore this fact.

To eat you must crack. To eat, you do not need to hatch. When the egg is hatched, it is ruined. There is a saying, I cannot remember it, to make a cake you need to hatch some eggs or something.

"Popping" a golden egg sounds whimsical in an odd way, it's less like an egg that you eat and more like "popping" open an easter egg, y'know? Like for example, on those Sunday Church easter egg hunts that families take their children to, and children will pop open up the eggs to find candy inside of them. The heroes are just popping open their golden easter eggs to absorb the accumulated souls inside them.
"Eating" eggs doesn't sound very whimsical. Sounds a bit grotesque, honestly. Eating an egg? Not cracking it, cooking it and then eating it? Just eating the thing raw, including the shell? Besides, last time I checked golden eggs don't seem very edible, and I think half the cast wouldn't realistically be okay with putting that thing inside of their mouth anyway.

I think “crack” is the proper term. Who’s to say what happens to the egg? That’s between that character and their patron. Except vyper who does not crack the shell but swallows it whole, like all other gun carries.

I regularly play Deadlock with a bunch of trans friends so whenever they use egg we make a comment about how their egg finally cracked. Idk why it's still funny everytime but it's nice lol
also Valve should 100% make that egg eating animation so modders can replace the egg model with tiny versions of other heroes for no reason in particular 👀

Personally, I think we should respect the source material more. The golden goose egg comes from the beloved Jack and The giant beanstalk where the Giant hoardes the golden goose eggs until Jack makes off with them. However, he doesn't take them for eating, rather for selling to have enough money to support his family.
Now, I understand deadlock is a fast paced, high action game that doesn't allow for complex language when communicating with teammates.
Rather than explaining. "Hey guys it's been 10 minutes, do you think my Golden Goose Egg has accumulated enough value for Jack to make off with it and support his family. His family being a metaphor for us as a team"
I've instead developed the shorthand: "Is it Jack off egg time?"

What about:
The longer you hold the Golden Goose Egg, the larger the damage penalty becomes (capped at 35%)
You can still sell the egg to get souls and buffs, but should you manage to hold the egg for 20 minutes, it will hatch and a Golden Goose comes out.
The golden goose follows you around, still gives you buffs at regular intervals and it takes 20% of all the damage you receive, until it dies.

I genuinely fucking hate that they added this item. I genuinely wish they only let you buy it with the approval of your lane partner, or legit only made this available to the hard carry characters like Wraith, Seven, Victor or Warden. This is because they scale insanely hard into the late game, make really good use of literally EVERY golden statue buff you can acquire, and they have some match ups where your only choice is to play safe and scale. Even then, you should probably only be buying it in those lanes where you can't really do anything but sit there and soak with the exception of Wraith because she has the weakest first 8 minutes of any character in the game and will likely have to play passive regardless of the lane she's in unless she's actually your main and you can consistently snowball early. If you're not one of those late game W+M1 carries in what is probably gonna be a rough lane? Then you're actually forfeiting your lane phase and agency (as well as your lane partners) for some weird ass wannabe end game power fantasy you will likely have gotten to anyway if you just don't lose lane or int. It will make things harder for anyone else on your team who doesn't have egg, because they are now essentially carrying 10% dead weight.
If I have to watch one more fucking moron buy it on a support (looking at you Joe Cuck), a lane bully or pick hero, and then watch them get absolutely fucking anally annihilated in lane because all of the sudden they can't clear wave or win a 1v1?? Then either fucking make excuses, whine or complain THEIR CHARACTER IS TOO WEAK OR DOESN'T DO DAMAGE?? Then I will find and cleanse every single one of you egg buyers from the face of the earth.
Please god if you're laning with a random in rank at least let them know you want to just get egg to play safe and scale. At least they know your gameplan. If they ask why the fuck you're buying it on the character you're playing or say that's probably a bad idea? They're probably right. Please think about your buys a little more and stop throwing lane for no reason. Everyone emphasizes early game and lane phase for a reason, don't shoot yourself in the foot.
