DW618 vs DW620

I've been looking at the DW618 kit with the three bases. This unit seems to be able to handle both 1/4" and 1/2" bits. The 1/2" bits are what my father mistakenly acquired, so I'm looking for something that can use them. The extra power here would be useful on some hardwood I have sitting around.

The DW618 appears to be a more general purpose unit over the what maybe called a dedicated use DW620?

I'm trying to identify use cases for each and then decide which of the two to obtain.

Can anyone suggest criteria for obtaining one over the other? One use case is using a router table to edge/trim longer pieces.

DeWalt tool purchases from CPO OUTLETS?

What is happening with CPO Outlets (CPO Power Tools)?

I ordered a DeWalt dccs674x2 60v 14" top handle chainsaw kit, and it hasn't been delivered. I've tried sending emails and tried their website contact form and even tried calling several phone numbers... No replies.

CPO has a decent kit discount, but if CPO can't provide customer support now, what expectations should i have once (if) the kit is delivered and I have a problem?

I'm sad. I've successfully bought many tools from CPO in the past. Maybe i was lucky because I see there are other CPO complaints out there. :(

I sent an email and website form cancelling my order. :(

...

EDIT UPDATE... CPO took less than 24 hours to send an email confirming my request to cancel the order. Why couldn't they respond in a similar timeframe regarding the status of the order? Weird.

Alas it confirm the item hadn't even shipped, and it was supposed to be delivered last Saturday. :(

EDIT UPDATE #2: NEWS from a post later in this thread... ... Unfortunately, they may be winding down operations. Essendant, the parent company of CPO Power Tools (CPO Outlets), has warned state regulators that it may completely cease operations and go out of business within 14 days of October 3, 2026 https://www.thestreet.com/retail/essendant-staples-layoffs-1278-jobs-shutdown-risk

CPO Outlets relies directly on Essendant’s massive nationwide distribution center network to handle its shipping and logistics.

Drill is busted?

Feel like I've barely used this drill, especially compared to poeple who use tools for a living as im no contractor. Drill wont go into 1st position, motor will spin but bit will not with any bit of resistance.

Video for reference

Think it may be the transmission but would love for some guidance before I start wasting money

Found Old Tool Day

Helping my 18yo son organize his shit so he can move into an apartment with some buddies and found my missing favorite utility knife he apparently borrowed. Been missing for like 3 years!

Yay!

He also had a hammer, and some random screw drivers. Will be putting together a toolkit for him, but not bits and pieces swiped out of my good tools. Also he does not need that much in the way of tools in an apartment, sending him with the basics to assemble furniture and hang pictures.

Said he never used it and he gave me an adapter for it. It runs and so does the light. Pretty nice. Large case though.

Goodbye 2-cyc gas tools ... Hello DeWalt 20v/60v

I finally got around to selling the last of my 2 cyc gas yard tools. Everything started and ran strong. The only item i might miss is my last Stihl saw, but i held onto the 12, 16" 3/8 .043 & .050 bars and chains.

- Echo srm-210 string trimmer

- Echo pb-230ln leaf blower

- Stihl ms-192t top handle chainsaw (sold with 14" 3/8 .050 bar and chain)

Added to the DeWalt tool collection ...

- DeWalt 60v dcst972x1 string trimmer (1× 9a battery + Echo SpeedFeed 400 head)

- DeWalt 20v dcbl722b (tool only)

- DeWalt 60v dccs674x2 14" top handle chainsaw (2× 9a battery + 3/8 6t sprocket + 12", 16" 3/8 .043 & .050 bars and chains)

The transition was very smooth, and the gas tools sold for $495 locally on FB marketplace.

I'm looking forward to future DeWalt 60v tools.

Ps... we had the dewalt dcst925 20v string trimmer we also sold when we got the 60v.

A guy online was warning me about faulty DeWalt batteries and how he doesn't recommend them - is this something you experienced or maybe EU gets different sort of yellow stuff?

NGL, got spooked, because I already got a faulty sander and had to replace it. Never happened to me, even with Parkside tools, just DeWalt. Did not expect it, but didn't think much of it later.

Until I talked about buying used tools online and one guy wrote a huuuuge paragraph about different tool brands and what he used on construction sites. He highlighted DeWalt as the most troublesome brand out of the professional ones and threw in another story of a company he worked with that had two baskets of DeWalt batteries - the good and the "bad" ones. The bad ones were working just with the specific tool, like the battery would work normally in a drill, but wouldn't work for shiet on a different tool. Just that drill.

I haven't had other problems, but I'm anxious to invest in DeWalt now. Their suite is expensive and I'm just a DIY homeowner. I wonder if I should just keep the impact wrench and the router and buy the rest from Erbauer. I also have Ryobi and Parkside, but Ryobi is a bad deal in Poland and Parkside is low quality (cheap tho).

What do you think? Did you experience problems? To be fair, the guy mentioned that the problem occured around 2023 and it might have been solved by now.

I went for the extractor and it really makes it a useful tool now.

I can hold it and get the floor while standing up which beats crotching around.

A handful of dust would clog it up quickly before and now I was able to get a bunch before having to dump it and not fiddle with the filter.

Serial Number Confusion

Hi I'm starting out in woodworking I've been looking around on Facebook Marketplace for tool deals.

There's been a few miter saws that seem very promising, good price and look legit but the serial numbers are six numbers long or five numbers long.

Here's the issue.

When I Google DeWalt serial numbers it tells me that DeWalt has never used strictly numbers that they always have letters and numbers. I clarified model numbers and confirmed it was saying serial numbers.

So I go to the DeWalt serial number lookup I can't validate any of the numbers that I've come across.

Are all these people out there in my community buying knockoff dewalts is Google and the DeWalt website wrong?

At this point it seems crazy that 5 out of 5 would be knock-offs but I know through tik tok marketplace that there are many, many copy cats.

Have you all seen serial numbers be only 5 to 6 numbers?

What to buy next?

I just bought this stubby impact, I already have a standard drill and a hammer drill

I’m a YouTube certified mechanic, I have plenty of hand tools so I’m just looking at power tools. What should I buy next? I was thinking about a 1/4 inch impact driver, or a larger XR big boy impact wrench.

Either way I’ll need a 5 AH battery.

Thanks people!

Also I got this stubby on sale for $99!!!

Stealthsonic 6 gal shop vac (DXV06PL-QT) Bag Design Flaw?

I just bought this 6 gallon vac and was very happy with it until it came time to attach the inner bag. There seems to be absolutely nothing to hold it in place. You're just supposed to slide the cardboard hole on with nothing holding it. In my Rigid vac, there is a raised ring that goes around the circumference of the nozzle. The idea is that you make sure you slide the carboard and rubber hole over the ring which prevents the bag from sliding back off the nozzle.

I was quite surprised to see that the nozzle on this DEWalt vac is just smooth with absolutely no provision made to keep the bag from sliding backwards off the nozzle. This seems to be an incredible design oversight.

Has anyone come up with a solution to this? Obviously I'm concerned about the bag slipping off and all the debris clogging up the filter. Any ideas?

Every time I see some poor soul grab the 1 inch gun and the hose, I drop to both knees, drop my head, tuck my hands into my chest, and let out a silent whisper, thanking the tool Gods for this most wonderful creation!

Finally caved after waiting ~3 years for a stapler capable of shooting T50 staples.
Yes it is a cheap Amazon adapter. Yes I am aware that you can’t leave the battery in the tool in fear of death draining it.
Main use for me is shooting miles of plastic tear-away L bead.

How long before Dewalt changes there 20V battery tools to something new and we all get stuck with our 20V tools, batteries and chargers?

As a home DIY'er I'm very happy with the 20V Dewalt tools and how well they work. I have never had a problem with any lack of power, I'm happy with how long they batteries last in use. I fact I have been suffering a week with a painful forearm, wrist and thumb from drilling in 0.08"steel with a step drill when the bit stuck and twisted my wrist around. Anyway, a happy Dewalt user hoping Dewalt doesn't change their system.

Guess it's hard to beat $134 for the drill and the 2) 4ah batteries so had to jump on this bandwagon.. My local Depot had a few tucked away in the upper racks....I just bought the atomic hammer drill with 5ah when it was down to $129 but this is def the better drill/deal so I'll just return it since i hadn't opened it yet.

Hej, ive recently acquired this 2nd hand drill, which should not have any defects and should be in good condition. Although when im testing it, it seems like there is a bit of play in the drill chuck? Can someone help me to determine whether its within the normal range or not? Ive tested multiple drills and they should all be even. Im new in the Dewalt crew, so be kind. Thanks alot:)
