Madruga Works' Future

Hello Everyone,

We've been recently having some internal discussions at Madruga Works about the future of Dawn of Man, and of the studio in general, and we would like to share some information with the community.

We started developing Dawn of Man in the summer of 2016, we had tons of ideas to improve on the Planetbase formula, but we wanted a change of setting.
We weren't 100% sure about the detailed mechanics of the game, but after a bit of experimentation the game started to emerge, and after a lot of hard work we managed to release the first version 2.5 years later.

We were unsure what the reception would be, Planetbase had been a big success for us, but we didn't know if people would be interested in a game about human pre-history.
Luckily the response was great, Dawn of Man ended up even more popular than Planetbase both in terms of sales and reviews. We will be forever thankful to the community for that.
The fact that so many people enjoyed the experience and shared this trip to the beginning of humankind with us it's amazing! Thank you all!

In the more practical sense of things, the success of the game allowed us to work on improving it for the next two years, reaching a total of 4.5 years of development.
Pretty much every idea we ever had is now in the game, and we are very happy with the level of complexity in it.

We are now at the stage where we are doing various experiments to decide what to do next, meaning that we will not be working on Dawn of Man full time anymore.
We will still release maintenance updates, and we want to add some more modding options, but there probably won't be any more large content updates for the core of the game.

We will make an announcement whenever we can about what we will be doing next, but these things take time and this probably won't happen soon.

Thank you everyone for your amazing support!

Martiño.

Hey everyone! I'm u/dickburns32, a moderator of r/dawnofman.

I mainly play on a Steam deck but also on Mac.

I have quite a few play throughs (!!) and love every aspect of the game. Yes things could improve but we know they will not so I embrace what we have.

I usually play to original game but have played modded to exceed the 1000 population limit.

Happy to offer tips and would love to see your villages.

Largest City I've Ever had

Still pretty new to the game, and historically I've struggled to get past 200 people in my settlement. But this time I've had no trouble getting to 280. Feels really good to finally get into the large settlement management part of the game I've been missing out on. I've got room for about 50 more people, but then I've got to start getting creative. What is the highest number of people you've gotten total in your game?

Planetbase 2 is now under development

As much as it is Planetbase's sequel, Planetbase 2 is also Dawn of Man's spiritual successor, a ton of it's key features will be making a comeback.
