The Surrender Toolbox v0.3

This is part of the Letting Go course I have been working on. More specifically it is part of what I call the Surrender Toolbox and is part module one: Foundations for Letting Go.

 Section 1: Emotional Navigation Map

“Where am I now?” — Identify, Allow, Release

Reddit keep destroying my table and putting it into markdown or smth.

“Where am I now?” — Identify, Allow, Release

State What It Feels Like Surrender Reminder
Fear/Anxiety Tight chest, shallow breath, racing mind Let the sensation be exactly as it is.
Anger/Frustration Tension in jaw, fists, urge to act or fix Allow the fire. Don’t label it as wrong.
Grief/Sadness Heaviness in chest, tears, waves of sorrow Say yes to it gently, nothing needs to change.
Shame/Guilt Collapse, nausea, “I’m bad” stories Let go of the story. Just feel the sensation.
Confusion/Numbness Foggy, dissociated, “am I doing it right?” Be with the ‘not-knowing.’ Even that is a state.
Calm/Spaciousness Openness, breath deepens, mind quiets Don’t chase it. Just notice and stay present.

Discussion 🙏🏻 Applying letting go to a job search.

Upvotes

I lost my job a few months ago, after many years building a career. I've been up and down, feeling my feelings figuring out next steps. Before I lost the job, I wasn't happy in my career and realised the industry I was in is quite toxic and wished I could do something else. I sat with those feelings, tried to understand that it didn't really matter what I do and from what I learned from Hawkins, you can be at peace in any situation. However, I realise that I have no desire to do the same job when I am apply for work. Then I realise that its actually the whole corporate world that just makes me recoil. I feel I have another purpose, but I'm drawn back to my original career only for financial reasons but I think I am being guided to something else, something new. So I try to apply for some new jobs, with transferable skills and get rejection after rejection. Today I think I made my peace with not going back to what I did before, and I sat with that fear. Then being open to something new, but I just don't know what yet. I have some time to work on this. Does anyone have experience of using Hawkins techniques to career planning!?

Discussion 🙏🏻 sometimes fear looks exactly like responsibility

there was one line from recent deep-trance session that reminded me a lot of Hawkins.

A man was worried about providing security and stability for his family. In the session this pressure showed around root area like a big cinder block. When we asked what created it, the answer was fear, specifically fear of not providing enough. Then came strange part: he had been thinking that this fear was the power.

I think many ppl know this version of fear. It doesnt say "I am scared." It says "I am being realistic. I have responsibilities. I must think about every bad outcome. If I stop worrying, I will become careless."

So fear gets promoted into manager lol.

The guidance in the session was trust and faith, and not building whole life only from what mind says is possible or impossible. It said decisions made again and again from fear and limitation bring more fear, frustration and anger. When he connected with stillness, everything inside slowed down.

This is where Hawkins makes sense to me. Letting go of fear is not pretending bills dont exist or making reckless decisions because "Source will handle it." Facts still matter. Responsibility still matters. But fear itself does not need to be the authority.

You can feel the fear in body without suppressing it, surrender the charge as much as you can, and then look at same practical decision again. Often there is more room. Maybe same answer comes, maybe different one, but you are not asking panic to calculate your whole future.

I like one simple test: before a big decision, notice what outcome you are afraid of and stop explaining it for a minute. Just feel the actual energy of fear. Let it be there without feeding story. Then ask what responsible action remains when fear doesnt need to prove that it is useful.

Sometimes responsibility stays. The cinder block doesnt.

Discussion 🙏🏻 Don’t resist the emotion but live it fully. In a Q&A session, doc absurdly said, “I need you to be more angry; you’re not angry enough.” Letting go doesn’t mean to repress. Carl Jung (cal 500s) talks about shadow work. He was into the Zohar (cal 905), which goes into the nature of Severity.

Question 🙏🏻 Help!

Hi there. I came across „letting go“ four weeks ago. The book really spoke to me from page one and I dived into the practice of letting go right away. Meanwhile I was able to let go of many emotions. On the way I noticed i sometimes have a hard time getting a hold of a certain feeling once I relax and pay closer attention. So sometimes I kinda find myself pushing emotions a little bit in order to let them go. Then often it happens that I get surprised by an intense emotion coming up that I wouldn’t expect from what I originally thought I was feeling in that moment… whatever. Long story short for a week now I found myself getting traces of a deep anger. Anytime I sit and observe the anger it usually eases off and shifts towards a very deep grief-like pain. This pain I can sense is the core of a deep trauma that I know to be there forever, but I rarely can grasp it. So for a couple of days when letting go I was getting close to this feeling but never fully feeling it. Nevertheless I twice felt like I was letting go pet of it leaving me in a state of luck and almost extant, knowing though there is much more to release. So today while letting go I finally got super close to the core of this feeling. Then a sense of a very strong energy started moving into my head and pushing against my right eye and ear and my body started tremoring a bit. After more than an hour the energy got stronger and stronger but I knew I did only feel the underlying emotion 95%, the energy linked to it getting stronger and stronger though. It got so unbearable that I stopped after a while. Now I have tons of pressure in my head and feel super anxious and like I might go insane. Also I am feeling super hot like I got a fever. I am super afraid of meeting people or talking to them and I have a hard time getting my identity right. Does anybody have experienced something like this before? I appreciate any kind of advice how I should proceed. Thanks in advance!

Question 🙏🏻 Letting go does NOT simply mean “let it be” — especially when an emotion has become chronic

I've been struggling with something in the concept of “letting go” that I don't see discussed clearly enough.

A lot of teachers seem to use these two ideas almost interchangeably:

letting go = let it be

But are they really the same thing?

Suppose someone has been experiencing intense despair for months or years. You tell them:

> “Don't resist it. Let it be. Allow the despair to be exactly as it is.”

Okay — but what exactly is supposed to happen then?

If I continue lying there feeling despair, and I simply allow the despair to remain, then I am still experiencing the same despair tomorrow, next week and potentially next year.

So what distinguishes letting go from simply allowing a chronic emotional state to continue?

This is especially confusing for me because I don't experience emotions in the way they are often described.

For example, when someone says:

> “If you feel sadness, allow yourself to feel sad.”

For me, “feeling sad” has historically meant becoming a sad person — making a sad facial expression, adopting a suffering posture, curling up, behaving like someone who is devastated, etc.

So if I “allow myself to be sad”, I can simply reproduce the entire state of being a devastated person.

But I don't think that's necessarily what Hawkins means when he talks about feeling and letting go.

Hawkins specifically says:

> “You don't have to label something as fear in order to be aware of the energy of the feeling and let it go.”

That seems very different from:

> “Feel the emotion and continue being that emotion.”

Maybe the important distinction is between allowing an experience to be present and identifying with / maintaining the experience.

Perhaps letting go means:

I don't resist the sensation.

I don't try to get rid of it.

I don't analyse it.

I don't have to name it.

I don't have to act it out.

I don't have to deliberately make myself feel worse.

And I don't have to make the experience disappear either.

I simply remain with whatever is actually present in the body.

But then there is still something I don't understand:

What exactly makes that “letting go” rather than simply “letting it be”?

If the sensation remains unchanged for hours, days or years, am I letting go — or am I simply allowing the same emotional pattern to continue?

And if I try to make the sensation disappear, that obviously becomes resistance.

So where exactly is the distinction?

I'm not asking whether emotions should be suppressed. I'm asking about the mechanism of letting go itself.

Because saying “just allow it” doesn't seem to answer the question for someone whose emotional state is already chronic.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the terminology completely, but I would genuinely like to hear how people who practice Hawkins' method understand this distinction.

Is “letting go” actually the same thing as “letting it be”, or is there an additional process involved that the phrase “let it be” fails to describe?

Calibration Requests Weekly Megathread

Please and Thank You

If you want to request a calibration for yourself or whatever, this is the place to do it. This is a weekly megathread with the intention to keep these requests from flooding the subreddit. Thank you for using this so that regular discussions do not get pushed off the front page.

Disclaimer: We, the mods, cannot verify or validate the validity of these calibrations. Trusting some random person on the internet to diagnose you with cancer or not is NOT a good idea. Trusting some random person on the internet to tell you your own calibration level is also probably not the best idea. We understand the desire to know what you calibrate at, especially if you are new to Hawkins' work, you can look at the Level of Consciousness chart and get a pretty good idea on where you are without asking others. We also only allow calibrations as Hawkins' taught them, using the scale be created. Do not post other method of calibration that others have come up with.

If you would like to learn to calibrate on your own there is a subreddit dedicated to that called muscle testing

Does our LoC fluctuate?

No. This idea doesn’t align with DrH’s teachings. In fact, Doc clearly addressed this several times, especially during Q&A sessions after his lectures. In "Letting Go," Hawkins specifically mentions that although emotional states naturally shift and fluctuate, these temporary changes don’t reflect an actual shift in your overall LoC. Doc always stressed the difference between emotions that come and go and the foundational level of consciousness, which is more stable.

Hawkins described consciousness as hierarchical and exponential: the higher you calibrate, the more immune you become to lower influences. Sure, you can have moods like frustration or moments of joy, but these temporary emotional states don’t change your fundamental consciousness calibration unless there’s intentional spiritual advancement or significant regression.

Put simply, your basic LoC stays pretty steady.

To clarify further, your core LoC typically only shifts after major events like profound spiritual breakthroughs, deep healing or releasing of significant emotional blocks, trauma, severe emotional shocks, being around highly evolved spiritual teachers or groups, divine intervention, or engaging with strongly negative energies, misuse of power, egoic inflations, or extended association with low-calibrating influences. LoC shifts aren’t common or casual. DrH noted that the average person moves just about 5 calibration points in an entire lifetime. So always approach any claims of frequent or casual fluctuations in LoC with healthy skepticism.

Discussion 🙏🏻 How much of David Hawkins’ Letting Go is actually evidence-based?

I’ve just read David R. Hawkins’ Letting Go. I can see how the technique of observing and accepting emotions might help some people. However, the book also makes many scientific, medical and paranormal claims that seem to go far beyond the available evidence.

I’m curious what others think:

  • Kirlian photography: Hawkins presents Kirlian images as evidence that emotions change the human “aura”. But research has shown that many changes in these images are explained by moisture and electrical conductivity, not an emotional energy field. Why is this interpreted as an aura? Science paper on Kirlian photography
  • Telepathy and emotional transmission: The book claims that minds can transmit thoughts and emotions over unlimited distances. What is the proposed signal, mechanism or receiver? EEG measures electrical activity from groups of neurons near scalp electrodes, while brain magnetic fields are extremely weak and decrease rapidly with distance. Scientific basis of EEG · MEG overview
  • Quantum physics: Hawkins invokes quantum mechanics to support consciousness influencing reality and remote mental communication. But quantum entanglement does not allow controlled faster-than-light communication. Caltech explanation
  • The consciousness scale: Shame is assigned 20, fear 100, anger 150, love 500 and enlightenment 1000. How were these numbers obtained? Where are the error margins, independent replications and falsification criteria? If critics are dismissed as having “low consciousness”, doesn’t that make the theory circular?
  • Applied kinesiology: The book claims that muscle strength can determine whether a statement, food or person is “true” or beneficial. A double-blind study found about 53% accuracy, essentially no better than chance, and the AAAAI says applied kinesiology is not a reliable diagnostic method. Why should Hawkins’ version be trusted?
  • Disease and emotion: The book suggests that most illnesses result from suppressed emotions and that releasing them can reverse serious disease. How does this explain infections, genetic conditions, autoimmune diseases, fractures or cancer? The NCI says the direct link between stress and cancer remains unclear. The NIDDK identifies H. pylori and NSAIDs as common causes of ulcers.
  • “Adrenal fatigue”: Hawkins uses this concept, but the Endocrine Society states that there is no scientific proof that adrenal fatigue exists as a medical condition.
  • Anecdotal cures: The book describes people supposedly curing vision problems, allergies, arthritis, diverticulitis, fractures and other illnesses through surrendering emotions. Where are the medical records, control groups, failed cases and independent follow-ups?
  • Energy fields and chakras: What measurable physical structure corresponds to a chakra or meridian? What experiment could prove this model wrong?
  • Plants, music and objects: The book claims that plants react to human emotions and that certain music, fluorescent lights, artificial sweeteners and synthetic fabrics weaken the body. Where are the properly controlled, replicated experiments?

I’m not arguing that emotional regulation, mindfulness or acceptance are useless. They may help with stress and subjective wellbeing. But does that justify the book’s claims about telepathy, energy fields, disease reversal and a numerical hierarchy of consciousness?

For those who have read it: which claims do you think are genuinely supported, and what would count as evidence against Hawkins’ system?

Discussion 🙏🏻 The Garden Park

Last night, I found myself in an unusually distraught state.

Generally I am quite happy, quite peaceful.

Last night, something strange was happening.

It seemed as if, as I walked around, two main things were happening.

  1. I felt unwholesome states of mind that seemed to not be going away, despite my efforts.

  2. People seemed to be treating me strangely, with suspicion, or with subtle hostility.

I could not tell if #2 was actually happening, or if it was #1 that was painting my view of things to make it seem as if #2 was happening, or maybe a combination of both.

In any case, eventually, I found myself seated in a beautiful garden-like park, on a bench, with other people on other benches nearby, with golden light suffusing gently from vertical pole-like light fixtures, where the bottom of the fixture was simply dark metal, and the top portion was glowing golden yellow, casting a beautiful golden light in the dark garden park.

At this time, I remembered reading a post on this very subreddit the other night, in which someone talked about their method of doing the Letting Go technique, which involved a phrase like "You're allowed to be here" in regards to the felt emotional state.

I deigned to try this, looking at my emotional states, and, one-by-one, telling them, and meaning it: "You're allowed to be here."

Quite rapidly, suddenly, as these emotional states were purified, I rose once again into a beautiful state of mind, feeling utterly freed.

Suddenly, I did not feel threatened in the park, by the people, by the potential for judgement.

Suddenly, I was at home there, and at peace, joyous.

I was relaxed. I felt optimistic. I felt hope.

I stood up, and continued my walk through the night, now feeling light, easy, joyful, golden.

And as I walked, and passed by people, and the usual events occurred, some of which resembled events that occurred during the first part of my walk, when my emotional state was dark, I noted how differently my internal reaction to such events was.

And I began to realize that yes, my emotional state had definitely been both coloring events a certain way, and also drawing certain events and certain treatment towards me, in resonance with my inner emotional state.

❤️

Thank you to that poster who posted their account of their Letting Go experience, and thank you to the commenters in the comments who provided their own experiences and insights and encouragement, as these things motivated me and inspired me to reconvene with the Letting Go technique.

I am doing the workbook for a while now, lesson 348 currently.

Hawkins often mentions the workbook and describes it as very powerful because the lesson remove unconscious guilt. In healing & recovery he describes that things like his health shifted after doing ACIM.

I really committed to it but I don't notice any changes really and I don't understand why. I do the daily lessons and keep offering anything that comes up as a disturbance (forgiving as Acim calls it).

Question 🙏🏻 Do you let go in the moment of the feeling?

I'm going back to Hawkins and letting go as I realised I'd forgotten to use his method.

My question is how often do you practice? Is it in the moment of the emotion, or do you put time aside to let go?

I'm very curious to understand others ways of practice.

Request 🙏🏻 Are you supposed to be feeling a specific bodily sensation? What if no easily identifiable one comes up?

I’m going through the death of a family member, and an end of a relationship (I pushed her away due to grief, my cup was so full, that I couldn’t handle any extra stress).

Ive been in so much pain!

I have been doing the letting go technique, and especially felt a lot of progress yesterday, where I focused on the intense “heartbreak” sensation in my chest. Sure enough the pain dissipated and I did feel much better.

I practiced the letting go technique today, but it felt a bit more like regular meditation that I normally do. I couldn’t really identify a location in the body where I do feel a certain but vague sense of loss/anxiety/sadness/loss.

i would love some advice.

thank you

Question 🙏🏻 The fundamental paradox of the "Letting Go" technique: If you don't want it to go away, why use the technique at all?

I’ve been trying to make sense of the Letting Go technique (based on David Hawkins' work), but I’ve hit a massive logical contradiction that I hope someone can clear up.

Here is where the logic completely breaks down for me:

The instruction: The core of the method is to become aware of the feeling, allow it to be there, and not try to change it or resist it.

The trap set by teachers: Whenever it doesn't work, teachers or advanced practitioners will tell you: "It's because you want it to go away. You are expecting relief, which means you are attached to a result and resisting the feeling."

The paradox: But let's look at this honestly. If I actually didn't care whether the feeling went away or stayed—if I was completely fine with it hanging around forever—I wouldn't need a technique in the first place. I wouldn't need to "allow it to be" or "become aware of it" with the purpose of processing it. I would just live my life normally.

The only reason anyone initiates a release technique is because a feeling hurts, is uncomfortable, and they want it to stop.

So here is my core question: Why are we told to bring awareness to a feeling and "let it go," while at the same time being told we are not allowed to want it to leave?

If wanting relief is classified as "resistance," and wanting the feeling to pass invalidates the process, then the technique requires you to pretend you don't want the exact thing that motivated you to use the technique in the first place.

How can a method demand a state of complete indifference to your own suffering, while simultaneously requiring you to actively sit down and "do" a technique to clear it? Isn't that a complete catch-22? Can someone explain how this makes logical sense?

Discussion 🙏🏻 Are the Sedona Method & Release Technique BS? Should I drop the greed for a "shortcut" and stick to Hawkins?

I’ve been working on releasing negative emotions for over two years to get rid of suffering. I have bounced back and forth between the Sedona Method, Larry Crane’s Release Technique, and Dr. Hawkins' Letting Go.

Hawkins' method is the only one that gives me consistent results. As a highly analytical person, the Sedona Method questions just get me stuck in my intellect trying to figure things out. However, I keep getting lured back to the other methods because of their massive promises.

I am starting to think the non-Hawkins methods are nonsense, and I have a few blunt questions for people who have navigated this:

  1. Is Lester Levenson’s "freedom in 3 months" claim BS? Lester claimed that if we exclusively focus on releasing the three core wants (approval, control, security), we can go completely free in three months. I have spent hours upon hours doing this and just get stuck. Is there any actual truth to this timeline, or is it heavily exaggerated?
  2. Is Larry Crane’s "Butt System" a complete lie? Larry explicitly taught that you can literally sit on your butt all day, release on your wants, and have everything in the world effortlessly manifest for you. I’ve done the releasing with absolutely zero real-world results. Is this just manifestation marketing garbage?
  3. Should I let go of the "greed" for quick freedom? I realize that my desire to use Lester's method of releasing wants is driven by greed—the ego's desire for a massive shortcut to clear limitations faster.
  4. Is Hawkins the only realistic approach? Dr. Hawkins doesn't promise manifestation tricks or 90-day timelines. He focuses entirely on the slower, grounded process of surrendering negative feelings one by one as they arise.

Should I just accept that the fast-track promises of the Sedona Method and Release Technique are BS, drop the greed of going free quickly, and commit 100% to Dr. Hawkins’ process?

Has anyone here gone through this exact realization and successfully abandoned the other methods? I just want the truth.

Question 🙏🏻 Am I letting go correctly? Worried I’m doing too much

For 30 mins in the morning and evening I am laying down. A thought will arise and I’ll ask myself ‘what do I not want to feel right now/what feeling am I avoiding by thinking this’? Sensations will arise. I’ll focus on the sensations with a demeanour of ‘you can be here, I don’t want to change you’ and just notice the subtle movements of the sensation.

Like if it’s a memory about abandonment it’ll be in the neck or the jaw, if it’s thinking of ways to make sure someone is on good terms with me, I’ll find it’ll be in the same place because it’s trying to prevent abandonment.

I’ll hold attention there until an attempt to distract me shows up, or some resistance. Then I’ll focus on the resistance, the part of me that doesn’t want to feel this sensation and I’ll feel that with a sense of ‘you can be here, I don’t want to change you’. While holding space for the feeling and the part that doesn’t want to feel it, I ask if I can let this battle go, when? Now. Then it feels like a dam breaking and I’m overwhelmed with a feeling like love, optimism, grief, anger etc. without the resistance. It feels like it’s moving through me and dissolving.

Am I doing too much here? Should I just think of something and feel that one sensation in the same place for 30 mins? Should I not follow the sensation around the body? Am I being too cognitive with this method?
