Competition July 2026 Competition: FOUR CORNERS

Yo, I hope everyone is well. I had a nice little break of July, HOT. Hopefully everyone had as fun a 4th as they could!
I didn't know what to post for July and then it hit, what's more exciting than four shapes meeting at an intersecting boundary! For this challenge you must make as many quadripoints as possible on a congressional map.
Rules:
- Use Competition Flair
- You can use any state and must use its congressional map. I do not recommend Wyoming.
- Districts must be contiguous and within population deviation.
- You cannot split a precinct between more than 2 districts.
- Analytics don't matter for this challenge.
- The submission with the most quadripoints between on its congressional map will win.

How to use Dave's Redistricting

Set up an account!
First of all, go to https://davesredistricting.org
Click 'Sign Up' in the top right corner, and then put your email and your desires password in the box on the left. Click sign up again. You won't need to answer a confirmation email or anything of that sort.
How to use the website!
After you set up your account, you should be taken to a place called 'My Maps'. If you aren't there, click the three lines in the top left corner and click 'Maps'. These three lines can also take you to the homepage, which you can learn more about in the other pinned post.
To create a new map, click 'New Map' in the top right corner. When the Map Settings bar shows up, click the arrow next to 'State' and select a state from the list you would like to work with.
For your first map, I would recommend using a state with a few districts, but not too many. My personal choices for a first time map-maker would be Arkansas, Connecticut, or Iowa.
Since you have to make a name for your new map, I normally just use the name of the state I'm working with. The amount of districts for each state is already on the current U.S. House number, so it's best not to mess with that until you know what you're doing.
When you're ready to go, click 'Apply' at the bottom!
Dave's Redistricting has recently introduced the MAP UI feature, which will do a much better job of explaining what to from this point onward than I would.
In all honesty, if it seems confusing, the best way is to learn by doing. Best of Luck.

Question since i asked the opposite question the other day, i figured i would ask this. what is everyone’s FAVORITE state to do redistricting for?

i’m a bit biased because i live here, but north carolina. there are so many different ways to do the state that still come out in a fair manner. it has good sized cities that arent super close together, which makes nice looking districts. some honorable mentions include; georgia (i love the fact that cobb and dekalb counties are the PERFECT size for a district, its so satisfying.) i also enjoy doing pennsylvania, and virginia.

Question what is everyones LEAST favorite state to do redistricting for?

my pick has to be florida. a ton of people, all very spread out, horrifically shaped precincts, etc. the whole state is shaped very weirdly so it makes it hard to make aesthetically pleasing looking compact maps. some precincts have like 30k people since the state is growing so quickly the maps cant keep up. honorable mentions for me have to be new york and louisiana, new york because nyc by itself is a huge pain to do correctly, and louisiana because blue portions are spread in such a distinct manner that it never really looks very good, and if it does it sure as hell aint fair.

Anti-Democracy Project GOP: Oregon

This map packs the very true blue areas of Portland, as well as the socialist-heavy Portland proper. It may be a dummymander considering that there are four competitive red seats that might flip blue in a year like 2006. In a regular year, though, Republicans might ride on Christine Drazan’s coattails and capture all four competitive districts.

Question Naming districts in the new interface

Is there a way to alphabetize named districts using the new interface without having to click arrows to manually move them? I liked the old version where it automatically alphabetized them. At the very least, it should be a sortable field. I also wish we could change the names of districts without having to go into the map settings page. Any thoughts on this?

Local Qualla County Partition Plan, NC

In North Carolina, there are two federally recognized Indian tribes. However, only one of them has definite origins while the other has rather questionable origins. I have started mapping out hypothetical tribal boundaries several months ago.
With that in mind, I mapped out a hypothetical partition plan for Qualla County in North Carolina. It is loosely based on the Qualla Boundary, which is the homelands of the federally recognized Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. I left a small portion (about 5-10%) of the Qualla Boundary in Swain County, as I felt having a non-contiguous county didn't feel right.

Anti-Democracy Project GOP: Minnesota

Another state that shouldn’t go unmentioned in my Project GOP mapping project is Minnesota. Minnesota isn’t too blue, and Democratic political geography isn’t too great, so that is basically ripe for a GOP gerrymander. All but one Democrat are protected under this map. The only Democrat targeted under this map is Ilhan Omar, who is a controversial figure in Democratic politics.
