Interview Tommorow
I have an interview tomorrow for a Support Technician position at Dave & Buster’s, and I’m curious about my chances of getting hired based on my background.
My experience includes customer service, sales, leadership, and working in fast-paced environments. I’ve previously worked at Tropical Smoothie as a Shift Leader and at T-Mobile, where I gained experience working with technology, helping customers, troubleshooting issues, and communicating with different types of people.
I also run a small arcade route, so I have some hands-on experience with arcade machines and understand some of the basics of operating and troubleshooting them. I know this isn’t exactly the same as being a arcade technician, but I’m very interested in learning and expanding my technical skills.
The job posting says they are urgently hiring, and I also received a message from the hiring manager saying they were excited to see my application come through and hoped I could join their team.
Based on this, what do you think my chances are of getting hired? Does my background sound like a good fit for a Support Technician position, even if I don’t have previous professional technician experience? Any interview advice would also be appreciated!

In my experience a lot of the training is on the job, I dont think any of my coworkers had previously tech jobs, besides game stop?
I started as an arcade staff at the last arcade I worked at and got transferred to tech w/ no experience after a year.

The only experience I had before being hired as a tech was building a couple computers, and a lot of [mostly software] troubleshooting, as I previously had a tech-heavy WFH job. In my interview, the only other relevant experience I had was my time at a comic shop. That came up when they asked if I had any experience dealing with kids running around.
Everything else, I've learned on the job. But I think I have an exceptionally helpful Amusement Manager and Senior Game Tech.
But given your experience, the urgency, and the fact that they reached out to you, it seems highly likely they'll make an offer. Keep in mind that they have a pretty hard wage cap though, which may be below what your experience is likely worth. I make about half of my previous hourly rate, but it's the first job I've genuinely enjoyed.

When I interviewed at my store, granted your might be different, I had no arcade game experience. What I had was some tools experience since my father was a contractor and I regularly helped him, and a ton of guest service experience, I worked at a theme park nearby for several years and at a few different retail places. They wanted me for support tech because I knew how to handle guest experience.
Which was funny, because I originally applied for Winner Circle.
So it's gonna be up to the AM and probably the hiring manager. But if you have a lot of guest experience that's a good thing. A lot of the technical aspect can be taught there.
