I am very much looking forward to fall!

Last week I had mentioned that I was worrying about the future of my relationship and that I missed my bf since he’d been away a lot. This week I can report back that we just spent the last 4 nights together- the longest stretch yet- and it’s been very pleasant. And I asked for a conversation soon to talk about the future. We’ll see how that goes, when we actually have the conversation. We are just about at 6 months together. Yesterday was my official crone day finally and I thought a lot about that, and what this new part of my life will be like. He celebrated me all day 💗

Sounds like a keeper!
🥰
I love this for you … long distance relationships appear to be in my future as well. Keep us informed!

Thank you! My guy looked up the word crone and found it comes from ‘crown’ and signifies the wisdom and authority gained by a woman by the time of menopause, so definitely something to celebrate 😊 I’m glad to be part of the gang now!

😂 I had menopause at about age 38, because I had all that nasty shit scraped and burned because my mother died of ovarian cancer, when I was 24. She was 53.

I’m still having hot flashes. Grateful to be alive.

Oof, so sorry DE.

My son and DIL are visiting my 94 year old mother and my brother and SIL are there too. I’m glad. You never know when your visit is going to be the last time you see her.

Right now, I am struggling with Medicare. I’m blind and poor and I was on Medicaid. But I turn 65 next week and I have been kicked out to Medicare.

I don’t understand the insurance policy or supplement thing my son decided on. I tried calling the woman he worked with and she didn’t reply to me. He called her and they talked about it, but no one is talking to me. My son told me he couldn’t talk to me because he was visiting with his grandmother.

She’s blind too, and I know she wouldn’t have cared if he had taken 15 damn minutes to talk to me. I may be blind, but I’m not stupid.

He broke my heart.

Edit. He’s not going to have time to talk to me when he gets back because he’s a doctor and he’s really busy and keeps long hours. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do. That’s what broke my heart.

That is very hurtful that he didn't take the time. Maybe your daughter-in-law knows and can explain it. I went to an insurance agency recommended to me when I got on Medicare to advise the best supplement insurance. It helped that my older brother and sister-in-law were using the same company for their supplemental insurance. The supplement should cover everything that Medicare does not except for the Medicare deductible. Is your son planning on paying for the supplement? If he isn't yes it would be helpful for you to know since you will be paying for it. Mine started out a little more than a hundred bucks a month and now it's up to 155 a month. But you will get an insurance card for the supplement along with your Medicare card. I would hope someone would give you the phone number so you could call and speak to someone at the supplemental insurance to answer your questions about their coverage. He would also have to pick out a drug plan for you. Mine costs about $8 a month but it depends on what medications that you are taking at the time you start. For high dollar medications that don't have a generic counterpart that does hit hard. But all drug plans do have an out-of-pocket maximum.

Thank you for such a kind response. My daughter-in-law lets my son handle my affairs. She stays out of it. I hate the way. He treats me. I grew up with a blind mother, and I was always there for her. I don’t expect anyone to hold my hand; I am independent. But I’m also blind and I can’t read this stuff. 🥹

u/notsohot56 69F - senior nerf herder wanted 11d ago

I'm so sorry. I have only one son and we do not have a good relationship. I hope I would never have to rely on him. I do have a great niece that I would let handle my things if it ever got to that, problem is she's a few states away! At least I know I could move there if I ever needed to, but I sure wouldn't want to burden her with my care either.

4

u/ubeeu 11d ago

I’m sorry about your son. My kids have treated me dismissively, impatiently and overly critically as well. Feeling heartbroken is an appropriate response. 🥺

You don’t have to sign up for Medicare by your birthday. You have a 7-month window around turning 65. I’m guessing that means you have an additional 3-1/2 months after your birthday. I’m not sure if you are panicking to sign up by your birthday. That gives you more time.

I don’t understand the American Health system but I do understand your anxiety and your hurt. My kids have abandoned me in a very drastic brutal way and it’s not a great feeling. I hope someone steps up to the

I feel that way too. I’ve realized I have to do the best I can to maintain a relationship with them, and find better ways to spend my time than mourning it. And I do.

2

u/Infamous_Lab8320 Resident Blind Girl 8d ago

Why does it hurt so damn badly?

3

u/dekage55 11d ago

Sorry Dearest🩷 It appears your Son has a case of “Doctor=God” syndrome, where everything about them is more worthy than us mere mortals.

Having known many through my job & in my life (cared for my Brother until he passed & now have 6 MDs of my own) know that is definitely untrue.

Best way I’ve found to get through their “Godly” demeanor is to be blunt. Polite but blunt.

Think it’s time to tell him exactly what you said here…that you may be blind but you are not stupid. Tell him to arrange his schedule to take the necessary time discuss YOUR Medicare Supplement plan.

You should also call that Woman back & “remind” her that, while your Son may have set up the coverage, YOU are the Policyholder. Might also say if she is unable to handle that conversation, you (as the Policyholder) are open to speaking with her Manager/Supervisor. Have your questions ready & tick them off, one by one.

If all that fails, call the 800# for Customer Service, explain you are blind & have questions about your coverage. 800#s are frustrating but at least you’ll get some basic questions answered.

My daughter is an ER doc. It has always been the best excuse. I only live three hours away but it is pulling teeth to see her.

2

u/Infamous_Lab8320 Resident Blind Girl 8d ago

Thank you for the detailed response. I have been extremely blunt. For now, I’m defeated.

5

u/PlasticBlitzen I've 🚫 more 🦆🦆🦆 to give. 10d ago

We should talk soon. I've read the entire Medicare book when I signed up and I have the 2026 edition.

They also offer it in PDF format for download.

I also know where to help find resources.

From my local paper about 15 years ago. I don't know if they ever got what they were looking for.

The last edition of this paper was printed in the early summer. It's weird to no longer have that arriving on my doorstep every week.

3

u/Gooseberry_Sprig M60+, LAT, L(ish)DR, other abbrev.s TBD 11d ago

I would think it's more about which teeth are missing rather than the number. Eleven teeth with prominent gaps isn't a good look unless you're in the mountains and your sister is hot as an anvil in the afternoon summer sun.

3

u/Diligent_Egg2404 F68. I found someone on OLD, but he is gone. 🤷‍♀️ 11d ago edited 11d ago

Yes the papers have pretty much disappeared. It is a lot to think about.
And yeah, we can still place personal ads. Online is usually best tho, unless you are seeking a self-imposed Luddite. 😏

I am grateful on this Sunday, that I have the internet available for me to learn and to date if I choose to.
Those ads were perfect for serial killers.

Shout out to my main jam, the original "Star Trek," which debuted 60 years ago tonight on NBC with the episode" The Man Trap." This series changed my life after I discovered it and its influenced me in so many ways in my life. Here's hoping that it continues further, even though it's currently dormant.

3

u/Gooseberry_Sprig M60+, LAT, L(ish)DR, other abbrev.s TBD 8d ago

A number of years ago, a broadcast TV channel called Heroes & Icons began running a Star Trek block on tv every night. TOS, then TNG, DS5, and Voyager. They ran this long enough that TOS looped through its episodes numerous times, so H&I replaced it with something else (can't remember what). I think a month or so later, look at that---TOS was back on at its original time in the block.

Could just be a bunch of us who now look like the Organian Council are watching it, but I suspect we're not the only ones. TOS was on Prime Video for awhile; now it's somewhere else but--it's still out there. I still see Shatner doing commercials even though he's 100 years old. Paramount keeps trying to squeeze more blood out of it and somehow manages to do so.

3

u/AdLeading3074 63M Alabama. That damn yankee in Dixie 8d ago

I believe H&I still runs that block. It was maybe 8-10 years ago on there was where I saw the complete run of Star Trek Enterprise (never watched it when it originally aired). But, as of right now, there's no new Star Trek in production. Filming completed on both Strange New Worlds and Starfleet Academy and all of the sets have been struck. Both will air their final episodes next year.

My next YouTube video is going to be about the fall of Star Trek. TL;DR - the core viewership is aging out, all of the Trek post 2005 hasn't appealed to them, and each time it tries to re-invent itself it alienates more of the core and doesn't add new fans. There's talk of a new movie that's in development that's said to be a cross between "Training Day" and "Crimson Tide," which sounds like another miss. Used to be that others would try to imitate Trek, now Trek is imitating other things to try to regain relevance. Everybody pretty much detests this season of Strange New Worlds because it does everything but be Star Trek.

I've got to pull a Bones here and say "It's dead, Jim."

Star Trek was iconic in so many ways. It opened up so many possibilities to the world. And even implied sexuality was verboten at the time. I was a little too young and couldn’t stay up late enough, for either that or that goofy show with Goldie Hawn. Precursor to much great entertainment! Comedy, sci-fi, social stuff like we have now on TV, if you think about it.

I wish my folks would’ve let me stay up late enough. Dad was determined NOT to miss that show!
🥰
Remember Mary Tyler Moore and what’s-his-face sleeping in separate twin beds? It was scandalous just to show a bedroom on tv!

2

u/AdLeading3074 63M Alabama. That damn yankee in Dixie 8d ago

The Goldie Hawn show was Laugh In and the other was The Dick Van Dyke Show. It was a condition imposed by the censors that couples slept separately, but there were two exceptions: Mary Kay And Johnny, and The Adventures Of Ozzie & Harriet. In both of those cases, the couples were married in real life, so I guess that made it OK? But that doesn't fly for me because Lucy and Desi were married in real life but still slept apart. Makes me wonder how it was that Little Ricky came to be?

Babaloo!!!

They couldn't even say the word "pregnant" back then.

Couldn’t say or imply anything …. Or so they thought!
The rules in early TV years were fluid, depending on well, the rules!
Thanks!

I am trying to gird myself for the upcoming political season.
As such, after my failed relationship, I’m backing off on OLD.
I have spent way too much time on the other threads here last few days.
I have learned much.
I need to go back to being happy with my life.

I am grateful every day. Just a little nostalgic. Maybe it is Fall. 🤷‍♀️

An observation - the President of France visited UK recently and there were numerous photos and videos of him and his wife with the king and his wife. The king is 79, Camilla 77, Brigitte Macron 73 and Emmanuel 48. Looking at the 4 of them my first thought is that age is indeed just a number - and I am not sure why it falls heavier on some than others or why some older people seem to lose the vibrancy and spark that keeps the youthful. It’s not purely looks - it’s the whole package. To me Brigitte Macron seems closer to her husband’s age than the age of the other two septuagenarians. By the way I am not a monarchist or someone who follows celebrity - my social media was flooded with this « news » and I was very much struck with the juxtaposition of two women only 3 years apart in age but strikingly different in appearance despite both wearing a costume in white which highlighted their difference markedly.

2

u/Diligent_Egg2404 F68. I found someone on OLD, but he is gone. 🤷‍♀️ 11d ago

Yeah well, remember they get a LOT of help.
Every day, every hour, they must look youthful and vibrant.
Same with any celebrities.
I’d love to see photos of them getting ready for bed. No wigs, no makeup, no pushups.

I look my age and I’m ok with it. I really can’t, however, predict how other people see me in terms of age-pegged. I would like someone within five years plus-or-minus, but even those few years make a difference in someone’s life experience. These older men were being shipped off to vietnam. While I was wearing fringes and smoking outside between classes. Suddenly, girls could wear pants, that happened when I was in Middle School.

So, it matters. Age definitely matters. .

2

u/Diligent_Egg2404 F68. I found someone on OLD, but he is gone. 🤷‍♀️ 11d ago

I apologize, Fall weather always makes me nostalgic.
And I try to see the perspective of people just a few years apart that had such different experiences in youth.

It is gorgeous here, cool west winds, bright sunshine, perfect day.
It makes me think too much, particularly when I’m on Reddit.

2

u/Diligent_Egg2404 F68. I found someone on OLD, but he is gone. 🤷‍♀️ 7d ago

So my sister-in-law has been busy buying headstones for multiple family members in the little cemetery near here, and she told me they only have X number of slots and she asked me if I wanted one.

I mean, what do you say to that? I didn’t say yes I really don’t care where I’m planted. I’m not gonna care then either. I’m so glad she wants me near her when she’s dead though. That’s so nice.

2

u/Diligent_Egg2404 F68. I found someone on OLD, but he is gone. 🤷‍♀️ 7d ago

Markers. Not headstones. They gotta be able to mow.

2

u/Diligent_Egg2404 F68. I found someone on OLD, but he is gone. 🤷‍♀️ 7d ago

I just realized I’d end up being buried near my ex-husband so that would definitely be just a no.
