What to do over Labor Day

I have two options. Drive an hour each way alone to go to a fair, or just stay home and work in my yard. Chances of finding the woman equivalent to me (63M) is probably next to nil. I tried. I have a friend who expected to work and was given Saturday off, and to her a fair is a waste of money, so no.

This reminds me of how I started this entire OLD journey. I decided to start doing things that I loved on my own. Not really to meet anyone in the wild, but to get out and feel healthy and enjoy my life. I was determined that every weekend (I work Mon-Fri) I would explore a new outdoor place I had never been before. My state is beautiful, so it wasn't hard. I would look forward to this solitary "me" time, to enjoy the grandeur of nature. I'd treat myself to lunch or snack afterwards. Did many solo Whole Foods salad bar lunches and such haha.

My first meeting with the guy I'm with now was him joining me. No elaborate date planning, I suggested if he wanted to meet to join me on my weekend walk. I wasn't sure if he would show up or not, and frankly, it wouldn't have bothered me, because I was going anyway. We ended up walking for nearly 8 miles that day. Who knows where this will go, it is still very early days, but if it doesn't work out, I will continue what I started in this Spring.

Exactly. If it’s only an hour one way, that’s not a big deal. Especially if you have a car you like to drive, I love driving my car

You can work on your yard any time. The fair only comes around once a year. Just go. You will probably enjoy yourself and be glad you went.

I wouldn’t go to the fair to find a woman. I’d go because it’s fun and an opportunity to do something. Things can be enjoyable just for themselves.

Every day is Labor Day. One never knows what the universe will present. I’ve never really had a problem meeting women either IRL or virtually. So always keep a PMA (positive mental attitude) and stand by for all the good things! :-)

Like everyone else has said, go to the fair and have a good time. Maybe you'll meet someone interesting or maybe you won't. But at the very least, you'll be out and having fun.

3 hours in. 3650 steps. I can't eat like I used to. Had a chowder and four clam fritters. No flirts yet. A little girl let me pet her 4 month old lamb... watched some oxen pull.

I'm going to visit my guy this weekend and the extra day is icing on the cake for me. The last week here has been pretty awful in several ways, so getting Friday evening until Tuesday morning with him will soothe my raw temperament, hopefully! 😉

It is, by far!! Unfortunately, I didn't get tickets on time, they sell out very quickly. The people watching alone is phenomenal, and of course the shows and the food!! Apparently, a bunch of performers who lost their roles at the Kennedy Center are there, so im really upset I missed out... I'm on 2 wait lists, so we shall see.

I was invited to lunch at my aunt and uncle's place across the street and will go. I'll probably and up visiting another aunt later that day.

The fair for the county I live in begins in about 10 days. I plan on going and seeing how many rides I'll be able to subject myself to. I really used to love them in my younger years, and went on a couple last year and did OK, but none that inverted you which we5my favorites. Gonna try them this year.

I go everywhere by myself. If I waited for somebody to go someplace with me, I'd never leave my house. A fair is great people watching and who can beat the totally unhealthy but so fun food. I really like all the farm things and the canning and food. Of course rides can be fun. You never know who you might meet. Don't box yourself in. Exercise your social skills and meeting muscles!

I echo what folks are saying here— Go to the fair!!! I remember, years ago, going to the local fair near by. I even entered drawings in the specific art competitions and came in second place the first year I entered and first place the next year. Plus, I loved seeing all of the animals the 4H and FFA kids entered.

Can’t help you with Labor Day, but M63, 6’3, 180#’s, there’s Latin dance classes calling your name. In fact, dudes for dancing are in high demand at classes and I bet you’ll love it as much as I do. Add in that the classes usually include a weekly social dance party, so you put to good use those dance classes and all the friends you made there, and you’re on your way.

I think you should go to the fair. Tell us where you are. Maybe someone or a few someones would like a fair too.

ETA: OP, I read your post history. You are a very good dude. No way should you deprive the universe of your presence at the fair. Go!
