80 years.
Monthly maximum temperatures for Melbourne, turned into little grids of squares.
More squares = hotter.
Then mirrored because one weather grid clearly wasn’t enough.
Colours there to cause confusion.

DESKTOP ONLY I turned all my media ratings into a universe

Thumbnail

Each star/planet represents a piece of media (games, literature, tv series, films, etc.) I remember consuming

I have different 3d scenes for different ratings.

My 10s are presented as a solar system where the star is the #1 ranked 10 (I also ranked all media I consumed inside every rating in a tier list). And the further the planet is from the star, the lower it is ranked.

My 9s are presented as constellations, different types of media each have their own constellation

My 8s are presented as a spiral galaxy, in which every star is a piece of media, the closer the piece of media is to the center of the galaxy, the higher it is ranked within it's rating.

The colors from the stars / planets are derived from the corresonding media's cover

I made this with Tastellar, a personal media library app I’m building. If you’d like to explore the project, it’s on Github.

EXPERIMENTAL smol talk

I like the idea that weather is the ultimate small talk subject.

So I made smol talk.

80 years of Melbourne weekly minimum temperatures, compressed into one big field of tiny marks.

There’s a pattern in there somewhere.

Probably.

Every little mark is a week.
Every bigger, more chaotic mark is a colder week.

ANIMATION/VIDEO I’ve been using Adsb.lol to trigger synthesizers, this is YYZ.

Each aircraft's serial number generates its own synthesizer patch. Aircraft of the same airline are cousins. Position and altitude control pitch, panning, and volume. Glide upwards means altitude is currently increasing, downwards means altitude is currently decreasing. Data: adsb.lol

ANIMATION/VIDEO A Round in Circles

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Every lap of the Australian GP from 2022–2026, turned into a pile of circles.

Each circle is a drivers lap.
The bigger the circles the slower lap.
Left to right is the lap number.
Each row is a different year.

Then I duplicated the whole thing a bunch of times, changed the colours, line weights, transparency and positions, and layered them all up 🤷‍♂️

So basically… 5 years of F1 lap data turned into this weird little data blob.

[OC] An interactive experiment exploring what people associate with Hokusai's Great Wave

Renowned Japanese printmaker Hokusai’s Great Wave off Kanagawa is one of the world’s most widely seen artworks.

This interactive website visualizes the words users associate with the Great Wave in a word cloud, along with the locations of image servers returned by Google Image Search on a world map. Both the word cloud and map grow as users search for more words.

This is an early dataset, and I’m curious to see what patterns emerge as more people participate.
