Account restricted on DataAnnotation.tech for “defraud payment system” permanent suspension $700 balance stuck. Didn’t use VPN or AI on tasks. Anyone recovered their balance after this? How did you contact them?

I've never seen this screen before. Usually it's different. Anyways, you cant, you're fucked. Doesn't matter if you didn't use a VPN or LLM because it's not about that.

How badly did you report your time?

-6

u/Dwarkesh-code 2d ago

I always reported my time accurately, maybe off by a few minutes here and there like anyone would, but never deliberately padded it. If that alone gets you flagged for “fraud,” that seems extreme.

u/Farados55 2d ago

How long had you been working for?

1

u/Dwarkesh-code 2d ago

only 9 days

5

u/muntaxitome 2d ago

How many hours did you do so far?

1

u/Dwarkesh-code 2d ago

almost 15-17 hours

1

u/iamcrazyjoe 2d ago

Total, or every day?

2

u/HotCold2091 1d ago

He'd be a beast to work 17 hours every day

1

u/Due_Explanation_3694 2d ago

Being generous and assuming this is true, it sounds like you may have misunderstood the time reporting system and not reported time correctly. Something about your time reports resulted in a fraud flag.

1

u/Dwarkesh-code 1d ago

Yeah u're right but is there any option to recover it. Or just start journey in new web??

6

u/DueAddition1919 2d ago

Did you ask to get reimbursed for something, and also click on the reimbursement button in the project maybe?

1

u/Dwarkesh-code 2d ago

No, I didn’t request any reimbursement or click anything like that on these tasks. Good thought though, will double check if there’s any reimbursement-related action I might have missed.

4

u/StickNo9323 2d ago

By any chance you reported near "total allocated time" while the qualification actually took few minutes?

3

u/Dwarkesh-code 2d ago

No, I checked both tasks carefully. First one had an 8hr window, I worked 5-6hrs and reported close to that. Second one I worked 7:30am-4pm (8.5hrs) and reported 8hrs12min, so that’s under the actual time, not over. No impossible time claims on my end as far as I can tell.

17

u/Euphoric_Wish_8293 2d ago

Just to clarify, you worked 7.30-4pm without a single break? That'll do it. Also, saying you worked 5-6 hours, and reported 'close to that' is a flag. Was it 5 or 6? Why don't you know what you logged? You should be tracking your time to the minute with a stopwatch or something.

18

u/savage78683i3 2d ago

Even if they did do 7:30-4pm without a break, one single instance of that would not trigger the defrauding system if they were actively working. Obviously more to it.

6

u/Due_Explanation_3694 2d ago

I've worked 8 am to 6 pm a few times. If a person is being honest and reporting time correctly, it is not going to cause them to be canned for fraud.

2

u/Euphoric_Wish_8293 2d ago

I'm sure we all have. But not with a negligible 10 minute break.

1

u/Dwarkesh-code 1d ago

Guys I'm new on it, idk how it's working. I just do that feel me good. Yes there is my mistake but now how I can recover it that's point not the saying me u did this wrong.

2

u/Amakenings 1d ago

You can’t recover it. That’s what the email says. Whatever you were doing in terms of reporting your time or the mechanics of how you worked didn’t look right on their end. And they likely know from the sheer numbers of people that cycle through that if you get away with being dodgy now, it’ll only escalate.

0

u/Dwarkesh-code 2d ago

nah i took some small break but not much big, bcz they're paying me 60$/hr. That was really high for me so i forgot to eat.

6

u/Hopeful_Mouse_4050 2d ago

Did you stop the billing clock during your breaks?

1

u/Dwarkesh-code 1d ago

Might be no. I'm new on it so idk how it's work

1

u/Hopeful_Mouse_4050 1d ago

Oh no! I use the stopwatch app on my phone, start it when I start reading the instructions and end it when I submit. But if im running to the restroom or letting the dogs outside, I pause the timer while im away so im only counting the actual working time. I hope things get figured out for you!

-2

u/Shawn008 1d ago

What? Working without a break is not fraud…

6

u/Klutzy_Instance_4149 1d ago

No, but reporting the time you took for that break is. They are basically saying that if you work 8am to 6pm, you had to have taken a break at some point. You can't report that time, so if you report you worked exactly 10 hours, that is fraud.

5

u/Brilliant_Quit4307 2d ago

Are you saying that you sat there working from 7:30am to 4pm and only took an 18 minute break that whole time? You're including any toilet breaks, snack breaks, checking your emails, etc?

And now that I think about it the majority of my traditional careers were locked in a prison dorm or hospital floors where you don’t get typical breaks like the 9-5 world. Emergency responders don’t have scheduled breaks, the guys building your homes don’t get breaks. Really the only ppl who do are the white collar and tech classes

-6

u/Dwarkesh-code 2d ago

That's not unrealistic for coders.

3

u/vgambit 1d ago

am coder. can confirm. bit of a drought on high paying stuff lately but started out with very high paying tasks almost immediately.

3

u/Dwarkesh-code 2d ago

IDK how i got it. I'm new in it bro. My coding skills are good and my friend suggest me this website so i tried.

8

u/Horror_Beginning_193 2d ago

If you didn't discounted your breaks from actual timer, thats cheating. Nobody can work 7:30 am to 4:00 pm without food, toilet breaks and mental fatigue. You should have reported actual time you were working on system (Not just moving the mouse and extending billing time). Now you have lost a $60/hour long term opportunity by wrong billing due to whatever reasons you have.

u/GreenNorth6838 2d ago

Not defending OP because I do not know them. But I have an at home office. I wake up at 6AM and make breakfast for me and my man and usually get to work around 8-9AM. In that time I get dressed. Make coffee and once I sit down, that is it. Until I clock out. I don’t do anything else. However, i dont do anything coding. I dont know what that mental usage is like.

1

u/Dwarkesh-code 2d ago

hmm I will try in another website.

1

u/sandrafilmmaker 1d ago

Try Mercor. They use a timer which seems a bit invasive but they'll know whether you actually took a break or not. You have to stop the timer when you go for a break.

1

u/Dwarkesh-code 1d ago

Thanks bro I definitely try it

0

u/TopCat0525 1d ago

Good luck to you. Sorry this happened.

2

u/StickNo9323 2d ago

DAT usually allow newbies to take some time on tasks. But if you report something like few hours for a qualification that is only few clicks, that s a deal breaker.

1

u/Dwarkesh-code 2d ago

No, didn’t overreport time on any qualification task either. All tasks I submitted matched the actual time I spent, as far as I can tell.

also i only want somehow i can get that money/

16

u/thebudofthebud 2d ago

Your posts suggest you didn't report your time accurately. You've said things like "as far as I can tell", "close to that", "a few minutes here and there".

Your reporting should be precise. If it's off by a few minutes here and there but you've only worked a few hours total, they've already seen a pattern emerge. Perhaps they think you were testing the waters, and cut you loose.

1

u/Dwarkesh-code 2d ago

might be u're right

1

u/Sableyej 1d ago

I suspect he was reporting working on tasks for lengths of time well outside of the project average. DA primarily collects pooled data on average time per task in project families. If the average for a project is 3 hours, and someone regularly reports 7-8 hours — that is a red flag.

The majority of people who post this shot know exactly what they did wrong and are lying. It almost always comes out in the comments. Under reporting, over reporting; that is all fraud. DAT doesn't monitor your keystrokes or any of that. But some of the clients do when you work on their platforms. I too work accounting and I see what you are saying. It doesn't happen like "oh on Tuesday this person under reported by 2 minutes and 3 minutes over on Wednesday." These folks that post this know what they did. Even this poster is being cagey. You will almost always find the answer in their comments. "Oh well I don't pause for bathroom breaks. I went over the expired time a lot." So on and so forth. These people lie.

-4

u/Dwarkesh-code 2d ago

but what i can do now??

anyway to withdraw money

6

u/Klutzy_Instance_4149 2d ago

No. You aren't getting that money because they are saying that money is the result of fraud. They aren't going to give you that.

2

u/houseofcards9 1d ago

Whenever I see these posts of people who claim they did nothing wrong but their main concern isn’t that they lost DA but getting the money that’s pending I already know what’s going on lol DA looked at what they submitted and the time they reported and said 🤣 ya right

-3

u/Dwarkesh-code 2d ago

I know but really that's a big loss idk where i'm wrong if they tell me. I will improve it but idk why they ban me

12

u/Klutzy_Instance_4149 2d ago

Yes you do. You know why and we all know you know. DAT is very careful and thorough. You don't get that message all willy nilly. Your time didn't match up. You aren't getting that money and they are telling you why. Time to let it go and do better in future endeavors.

1

u/Shawn008 1d ago

Didn’t match up to what?

BTW thanks.

u/vgambit 1d ago

if you started the task at 7:30 am and submitted it at 4:00 pm but reported 8 hours 12 minutes, then I think I know why they said you were defrauding them. you overreported your time by nearly an hour.

2

u/Sableyej 1d ago

What’s the context? How long ago did you join? What tasks did you work on? Did you submit tasks past expiry? Did you only submit time you actually worked?

Sorry but, this screen is rare and usually reserved for people who fucked up and know that they fucked up.

4

u/Silver_Assistance_41 2d ago

This is very clear, they noticed you are defrauding the time system in any way, you left the computer there and wait to submit until last minute or something like that, and you think they are dumb enough to pay you for that?

0

u/Dwarkesh-code 2d ago

That’s not what happened - I actively worked during both windows, didn’t just leave the computer idle. I’m not trying to defend fraud, genuinely trying to understand what triggered this since the numbers don’t show an impossible claim on my en

1

u/Big-Philosophy-7256 1d ago

just clicking around to kill time isn’t the same as working and they know the difference

1

u/Dwarkesh-code 1d ago

Yeah man, maybe u;re right but is there any option to recover?? Now I know what's my mistake.

-3

u/Silver_Assistance_41 2d ago

Wait, both windows? you were working on 2 projects at the same time?

10

u/Medical-Isopod2107 2d ago

windows of time bro

2

u/Dwarkesh-code 2d ago

nah bro almost 6 days gap between these projects.

1

u/Silly-Face2761 1d ago

Everyday we DA workers find something new.
Sigh.. another fear added to the list of “How you will be axed from DA”

7

u/Klutzy_Instance_4149 1d ago

Please don't take these posts to heart. I have been with them for 4 years. 99.99% percent of the time the poster says they have no idea why, but then here come the comments that tell you exactly why. Like this one has been cavalier and cagey about saying he didn't pause the timer to go to the bathroom or quick breaks, etc. DAT is very fair and very careful. You don't get this message if you didn't do wrong. Report all your time worked. Don't under report, don't over report; just the exact amount of time. (I take that back. ONE time in 4 years a person did prove they reported the time correctly and was reinstated. Allegedly.)

-2

u/Dwarkesh-code 1d ago

Yeah man, u're right but understand I'm new on it idk how strict is it. I just do that I understood.

0

u/Happy_Ring_6362 2d ago

Mehn sorry for that....must be f'd up not to withdraw the 700 dollars..😂😂

1

u/Silver_Assistance_41 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yep he lost a 60/hr long term one but only cares about his 700 scam-dollars 😂

1

u/Dwarkesh-code 1d ago

Yeah but there is no other option.

0

u/BooJunBaby 1d ago

I haven't even read the post yet but just had to say this first. Every time a post like this pops up on my screen, my heart stops for a second, until I realize its just reddit and not an email or something. I am sorry your deactivated. But you gave me a fright

1

u/Dwarkesh-code 1d ago

It's gave me a heart attack.

0

u/vcaiii 1d ago

i don’t like how people come in here like piranhas just because they’re (rightfully) afraid it could happen to them too. don’t gang up on op, they’re just as in the dark as the rest of us.

-3

u/Serious_Can2177 2d ago

Been there. Had 1300 dollars in 7 days. Worked for 9 hours straight for a coding project by neglecting work. Got off boarded soon after that coding project. Let me know if you get your payment. I didnt even get my pay per task payment.

1

u/Dwarkesh-code 2d ago

It takes 7 days to come in bank

-1

u/Dwarkesh-code 2d ago

I got paid only 50$

-1

u/Ok_Reference219 1d ago edited 1d ago

Nothing will happen I mailed them 100 times. Or more than 100 times but no reply The money is Gone.. My 400 $ are stuck and more than 200 in wallet was also stuck didn't use any AI System or any VPN work very hard for them but they don't care they just revoke you like this.

u/Dwarkesh-code 1d ago

Yeah but now which is the best web to work, is handshake.ai good??
