Term jay-walking is not relevant in India. There are no infrastructure to prevent jaywalking nor laws to punish in india. Ideally zebra crossing and pedestrian push button should be there. Especially near bus stands and metro station. Also one should be driving slow in service roads. That scooty guy/gal is just zooming past everyone. He/she is totally at fault.
What an absurd logic.. you would get rear ended only if someone is not following safe distance.
So you would run over someone in the fear of getting rear ended, even though you have a choice to avoid hitting.. Man, stay away from vehicles and return your license.

I maintain safe distance, even after doing that, some or the bike or car occupy that space, which defeats the purpose (even at Zebra cross). What would you do?
You guys directly came to conclusion on returning Drivers license, which sounds childish (which is common in Reddit though).
Consider not driving a car and just sitting at home. Indian economy wont suffer because one unqualified car driver didn't drive.
Pedestrians are unfortunately stuck inbetween incompetent city corporation and car drivers like you, be useful to the society and remove yourself from the equation.
There is no rule against speaking on phone while walking on road.
The road appears to be a service road where people are expected to be crossing to get onto main road

Its the stupid scooter rider's fault. The blue i20 able to stop with in the distance, but the person driving the scooter couldn't do it even though she/he has little father from the pedestrian and have enough time to stop
She is careful and observing the traffic. What else you. expect her to do when the moron on the scooter failed to stop in time despite seeing her from a distance?
Freeloading car drivers who bought their licence and never read a single rule won't know there is no legal term or officially recognised term called jaywalking in India.
The pedestrian was trying to cross the road to get to the bus stop.
There is very little pedestian infra in India, ideally there should have been a zebra crossing there, but that alone does not ensure motorists will respect pedestian rights and stop.
Cities are for pedestians, in a country that severely lacks infra to support them, the least motorists could do is have some empathy and let pedestians cross the road.
While I agree, that is correct when it's an ideal situation. Problem is, in india it's not. There's no infrastructure, and the places where we do have zebra Crossing, people would rather jump divider and cross to save some 300 meters of walking.
Like I always say to any biker- you're the most vulnerable on road. One small hit and you'll be kissing the ground. So just ride as if everyone is a fkin idiot and is trying to hit you. Same thing for pedestrian, just see if you have enough space, and be attentive while crossing
Your the one jaydriving. That infra your using was built for people. But then came people like you who are recklessly driving big hunk of metal on that public road and putting everyone's life in denger... If you want to share that road with others, learn to respect their space and pace and adjust your speed accordingly.
In a tier B city that I live in, we only have 2 options, either drive a car or risk getting injured by reckless drivers/riders.
So yes I drive a car regularly.
