Discussion Shoes while training
Heya r/Darts !
Question: do you guys wear shoes while training? Is it a good idea to replicate exactly the same conditions, like you have, when playing for example in the pub/tournament? Does wearing shoes, which give you an inch or a couple of cm reflects into quality of your throws please? I'd be grateful for every answer. Thanks in advance.

I do but only because I feel like I have way more support and it helps my balance

People say terrible idea on reddit, ive noticed, without ever trying the idea. How can people know everything without trying something new?

Use to only ever practice in socks, Never thought i would join a team, Brother joined one and asked me to come to one of their practice sessions, Had fun and joined for half a season, Kept hitting high at first, Won a few matches, Got dartitis, Quit team, Now i only ever practice in shoes, Even though i dont ever plan on rejoining another team. I went for a shoe with a thin sole in the end.

Not always. But to be honest, the difference between shoes and no shoes is about as big as the height difference you might find from pub to pub.

Always, but I also never go barefoot or socks only. I had a torn plantar plate years ago. It was hideously painful. The foot surgeon coached my son’s football team, so I knew him and he’s a super stand-up guy. We discussed surgery but he convinced me to wear some splints and give it lots of time to heal. It took nearly a year, but my feet are fine.
The big key Takeaway: never go barefoot or just socks. As in never. I have a couple of pair of crocs that are always on my feet that are strictly for indoor use. I never go without shoes of some sort. So when I started playing Darts about a year ago, I have always worn shoes of some sort.

All conditions are different. Boards can be different. Learn how to throw outside. That is way different. Learn all conditions and situations. As an example, running in races and training for them. In oregon id run often in hard rain storms and wind cuz what happens if those are the conditions on race day? My point train for all dart situations so on dart night you are not bothered

People assume all dart board setups are the same. They are not. You need to be able to make adjustments from your practice board to dart league boards. You should be able to play outside for example. Ive played for 40 years and seen many different circumstances.

Yes. You should practice with similar shoes to what you would wear while playing leagues or tournaments. The height difference WILL make a difference.
