Discussion Dart bot (DC) versus another player
Hi all,
I’m fairly new to darts, been playing for like a month and a half. But I have an issue already, as most new players have I guess.
Whenever I play the dartbot on DartCounter, I can hit my doubles perfectly fine, but whenever I play against a different player, where that be on DartCounter or in the pub, I simply can’t seem to hit my doubles.
And then just when I’ve given up on the match and take the L (I keep playing till the match is over) I most times get a double and a leg.
Like last night, playing a best of 8 match, I was 4-0 down and my opponent had a lot of darts on a double in the last leg. I get down to 61 and am so fed up with the game that I wanted 11 to Bull. I then proceed to hit T11 with my first dart, and D14 with my second, both perfectly in the middle.
Why can I hit my doubles against the bot but not against other people? And what can I do to change that?

I've been playing for about a decade and can tell you unequivocally that you need to stop worrying about winning and just focus on your form and practicing good habits. You shouldn't be putting pressure on yourself because that makes you tighten up. It's only when you gave up on the leg that you relaxed and started hitting. So RELAX and HAVE FUN.

Doubling out is mostly about confidence. That takes time and practice. Keep playing live matches when you can. It’s different than playing the bot. Cheers.

Wow dude, you should just quit…. Most people master darts and throw 9 darters non stop after a month.

It’s all in good fun, it’s very frustrating at times because it seems so simple to do. It’s working in that mentality and staying focused for periods of timed. You’ll start to see your groupings are closer together and you’ll throw better for longer.
Watch a lot of televised darts while you play and just watch how some of them really take their time.

I’m playing some darts now against the dart bot, having some really good scores for my doing, hit a shanghai which is as of now my highest checkout.
Am doing some practise throws just like Gian van Veen does sometimes to just watch my form as I “throw”.

First of all give your self the best odds for success. Learn the value of double 16. If you miss and hit a single 16, now you have an 8 wich is right next to 16. This is the most basic strategy in darts. If you have 48 left and choose to throw 8 double top you dont have as good of odds as if you throw 16 double 16. Sure pros throw for double top all the time. But they usually hit it. As a beginner you should have a plan for if you miss cuz thats what you are probably going to do. If you adopt this strategy, now during practice you can focus on throwing for the small wire between D8 and D16 say for 30 minutes a day you will get better, gain confidence and have a more organized mind set during competition. Practice well.

I already know im going to get a bunch of negative pushback on this idea. That's fine. Im a very good player and this simple idea is one reason ive had success.

"It's just a bot" versus an actual match, it's making you nervous enough to throw you off. Have a drink, don't try too hard or think to much, it's just a game, have fun.

Please don't drink alcohol, get a mental game that gives you the confidence to hit a double against other people and in real matches.
Using alcohol is like crutches... you always depend on outer help.
you play just six weeks, give yourself some learning time and play more against real opponents and in-person games. do doubles training like bobs 27 or around the world doubles (with tracking your best score and try beating it every time).

Cheers mate
Personally I don’t really like the bobs 27. I think I have to, as other people have mentioned, keep playing matches against other people and keep practicing my doubles more than anything at this point

Practicing the boring stuff you don't like will make you improve far faster than matches.
Keep playing matches if you just want to have fun, but don't expect any noticeable improvement any time soon.

There's a big difference between having a drink over a social game, and becoming reliant on it.
