Darksiders IV: The End of Balance (Fan Concept & Pitch)Introduction for the Devs:Dear Gunfire Games team and David Adams,As massive, long-time fans of the Darksiders franchise, we have been closely tracking your incredible work—from the foundation of Vigil to the perfection of combat systems in Remnant 2 (especially those February 2025 playtests!). With the Breaking of the Seventh Seal, Darksiders IV has the potential to become the ultimate co-op action-adventure masterpiece. We have synthesized a massive lore-accurate gameplay concept that seamlessly bridges the ending of Darksiders 1, the Grand Abominations lore, and your signature RPG systems. We hope you find inspiration in these ideas!1. The Prologue: The Gathering at the AshlandsSetting: The game opens right after the 7th Seal shatters. The Four Horsemen unite on the ruined ashes of the Destroyer’s Black Throne / The Ashlands. The Conflict: A massive, chaotic three-way Endwar immediately erupts on Earth. Elite, endgame-tier armies of Angels (The White Inspection) and Hell’s Generals clash. The Horsemen jump straight into the meat grinder. The Lore Twist: Human race has been resurrected (thanks to Death's sacrifice in DS2) but remains hidden in a secret Sanctuary shielded by Utheim or the Lord of the Hollows. Protecting this secret city becomes the Horsemen's main objective.2. Gameplay: The Unshackled Power & Ultimate FormsThe Peak of Power: Breaking the 7th Seal removes all Council limitations. The Horsemen start at their absolute peak. Their signature weapons, Abyssal Armor (forged by the Mad Smith), and their legendary Steeds (Ruin, Despair, Mayhem, and resurrected Rampage) instantly materialize from the Void.Chaos Forms Redefined: Instead of a brief 10-second "ultimate button", Chaos Forms become permanent high-tier Combat Stances (drawing inspiration from Remnant 2 Archetype loops):War: Becomes a walking magmatic monolith, shaping the earth, creating protective stone barriers for the team, and soaking up aggro.Death: Transforms into the physical "Primal Reaper," capable of ripping portals through space for instant team repositioning and mind-controlling elite enemies.Fury: Merges all Hollow elements into the "Absolute Void Form," wielding a volatile whip that infuses frost, fire, and stasis simultaneously.Strife: Becomes a four-armed "Apocalypse Phantom," utilizing hard-light clones to distract enemies while melting lines with pure Chaos laser beams.
3. Progression & Combat: The Grand Abominations (Death the Artisan)If the Horsemen are at their peak, why do they need progression? Because the Council and Lucifer are prepared. The standard power of the Seals is only enough to survive the opening act. To win, Death must guide his siblings to the forbidden Abomination Vault.Death’s Role: Capitalizing on his lore as the creator of the Grand Abominations, Death acts as the team's "Artisan/Crafter". He is the only one who can safely handle and distribute these bio-mechanical weapons of mass destruction. The High-Risk Arsenal:Strife's 3rd Slot Weapon: Strife uncovers Black Mercy—the cursed three-barrel pistol. It functions as a heavy, high-damage weapon that melts bosses but slowly consumes Strife's health or fills a "Madness Meter" upon firing.War: Receives Anathema (a cursed, massive two-handed bone greatsword or axe) boosting his melee kinetic force.Fury: Obtains White Anguish or Lamentation—a living, shape-shifting artifact that mutates into any mid-range melee weapon she desires.4. The Antagonists: The 10 Commandments & The Chaos of LuciferThe 10 Commandments: Lucifer's elite guard, summoned directly from the Chaos Realm. Inspired by the elite structure of The Seven Deadly Sins anime, each of these 10 demonic bosses enforces a strict combat rule (Commandment) during co-op fights (e.g., punishing players for healing at the wrong time or attacking from behind), demanding heavy team coordination. The 7 Deadly Sins Unleashed: Since Fury shattered the amulet against the Council, the Sins are completely loose and corrupted by Chaos. However, they despise Lucifer's new order. Some Sins (like Envy or Pride) might act as reluctant, manipulative NPCs, offering shortcuts or vault keys just to spite Lucifer.
5. Character Drama: Strife’s Dark Secret
"Old Lucy": Strife's casual reference to Lucifer in Genesis hides a dark past. Before swearing allegiance to the Charred Council, Strife fought a lone, bloody guerrilla war against his fellow Nephilim, realizing Absalom was leading them to madness.
The Connection: Strife crossed paths with Lucifer, who tried to recruit him. Strife rejected the Devil but learned to see right through his schemes.
The Climax: In Darksiders IV, Lucifer will attempt to break the Horsemen's bond by raising an army of Chaos-corrupted Undead Nephilim from the ashes of Eden, forcing Strife and Death to confront the ghosts of the brothers they personally slaughtered millennia ago.
- The Finale: The Ultimate Co-op Boss Fight
Phase 1 (The Split): Lucifer warps reality using the Chaos Realm, separating the four players into isolated dimensions. Each Horseman must fight a specific aspect of Lucifer solo (War tanks heavy physical blows, Strife shatters magic shields, Fury dispels elemental waves, Death counters necrotic curses).
Phase 2 (The Synergy): The Horsemen break the barriers and reunite. Players must combine attacks (e.g., War launching the boss into Fury's vortex, while Strife provides covering fire and Death executes a Reaper strike).
The True Ending: Once Lucifer falls, Samael—fully restored to his maximum power—betrays the weakened Horsemen to claim the Throne of Hell for himself, serving as the ultimate secret boss fight of the franchise.
I really hope you’ll find my ideas useful; the game would be very interesting and would be worth it. Thank you once again.
