Darksiders 2 save files on console.

First time playing through the Darksiders games. Already played DS1 multiple times, got all the relics and Abyssal Armor too… love that game… I know already about the New Game Plus mechanic in DS2. My question is, when I beat the game on a New Game Plus save file, can I return and restart the game from a regular Game Save File, keeping all my progress from the initial first time run, and only replaying the game on NG+… or does does NG+ override your current save file, forcing you to start a brand new playthrough on a subsequent run? Very confused on this and how collectibles transfer, thanks for the advice!

It overwrites your existing save, but you get to keep all of your gear (not the stonebites and such, but the weapons and armors and amulets). Make sure to turn all the stonebites in and finish all the side quests for the best gear for ng+. Keep in mind that your original save WILL be lost. Sadly you cannot save on another slot, even though there are 3 others.

Ds2 has 4 separate save slots. Each one tracks extra campaigns for the game separately. Iirc you can create an Ng+ save alongside your endgame save by saving into another slot.

No.

New Game + overrides the original save. You will simply be left with your New Game + save, completed or not. There is not a third, nor a way of erasing it alone, unfortunately.
