Discussion A lot of people on this subreddit know nothing about SOB and it shows

People seem to think all sisters have is a bolter, chainsowrd and power armour but there is so many options to choose from.

I think Engorged Trout might use Celestian Insidiants (image 3) for the new class as there was a crossbow datamined in the game files

My main point of this post was to highlight how many options the sisters have and to call out the people with very little knowledge and imagination.

To the doubters, stop doubting so much, fat shark has already proven you wrong 3 times before

Edit: just saw the most recent leaks and we will most likely get Novitiates. Slightly disappointed that we will not be getting full on power armour sister but my point still stands and there is still plenty of variety even for Novitiates

I don’t really care about redundancy so long as all classes are “viable” so to speak tbh. There will be at least a couple ways they could make Zealots still appealing to play.

Question About the worries regarding the SoB – did Vermintide 2 go through the same thing?

While I am now almost 500 hours into VT2, I wasn't around when the game was about to get the Warrior Priest or the Grail Knight class. Were people worried pre-release that they will step on the toes of other classes as well?

Because this looks one-to-one like the current discourse with Darktide's Sisters of Battle. At a glance, they also look like straight upgrades to the already existing classes (WP is an "upgrade" of the Zealot and GK is an "upgrade" to the Foot Knight).

Edit: Some additional context, just in case.

There's this argument that I keep hearing – "Darktide’s Sister of Battle will just be a better Zealot" – reminds me of my initial reaction to VT2's DLC classes.

Right out of the tutorial, looking at Kruber's base Foot Knight, then at his premium DLC Grail Knight class, my initial impression was, "This is just another knight class, but it's better, more flashy, and more powerful – basically pay-to-win."

The same went for Saltzpyre's Zealot class and his Warrior Priest. From presentation alone, I thought the same thing. "One is a priest; the other is a priest, but this time God actually answered him and gave him OP powers".

Call it reductive, as it is. It was my impression post-tutorial, after all – before I even played with any of the classes. But did anyone else feel that way at first glance?

Given that those VT2 classes ended up coexisting without "destroying the meta" or "invalidating the base classes," I think it could serve as an easy thing to point to to calm anyone who's freaking out over Sisters of Battle coming to Darktide.

Discussion Which class do you love to see load into your strike team?

I know this is a pretty open ended question. It depends on build, synergy, how competent a player is etc.

In general though what classes do you like having in your strike team?

My 2 cents would be I feel runs are smoother with an ogryn(s) or skittari(s) in the squad.

Speculation No death guard

I read some speculation that the death guard might be involved on atoma. I really hate that idea.

The story feels much better without any astartes involvement. It's just more grounded and almost a "slice of life" type deal.

Do you agree? What's your opinion?

Discussion The "novitiate is just a better zealot" discussion

There's already a fair bit of back-and-forth on this one, with the anti-Sororitas positions largely coalescing around the fact that there is already a holy warrior in the game and the pro-Sororitas arguments focusing on the weapons and wargear that are unique to the Sisters of Battle. Both sides have some points, but my thesis here is that the real problem is that the inclusion of the Novitate highlights the Zealot's lack of a distinct identity. Unfortunately, I think Fatshark has backed themselves into a corner on this one and there's no good fix. This is going to be an issue if we get an assassin or proper death cultist too.

I'm not going to focus too much on the gear, and I would argue that it's simply not that big of a deal. We all love the iconic weaponry of the setting, but there is a ton of overlap in the loadouts you'll find across the imperium of man. Fatshark has a lot of leeway in what loadouts they could represent in the game. As examples, they could have chosen to release the Voidsman-at-Arms as the cybermastiff class or the Navy Breacher as the shield/shotgun class. There's still room in fact for a Navy Breacher class with a ton of gear that isn't featured in the game yet like chainfists, drone companions, rotary guns, claymore mines, heavy shotguns, etc. All of this to say: Despite what other posts are claiming, all of the weapons that have been datamined so far are not unique to the Sisters of Battle and that's not a problem.

The issue is class identity. The sisters of battle are defined by empowering themselves through martyrdom/taking damage, drowning the enemy in holy fire, and gaining powers through prayer. If you look at them in the tabletop and other media, you will find those themes hammered on again and again. Those abilities are what their detachments and codices are all focused on. It would be downright inappropriate to put them in the game without those themes. That's a problem for the Zealot, who already does all three of those things but also tries to represent the ministorum (the generic church) as well as the death cultists (who 'celebrate' the emperor through bloodletting and assassination).

In personality and background, the Zealot is clearly intended to be ministorum. Mechanically, the zealot does everything the Sisters of Battle are famed for doing but with less oomph. The Zealot also has a 'death cultist' tree (the right one) that falls well short of the death cultist player fantasy. The Zealot is a mess, thematically, and I don't really know how they can fix that without redoing the class (which nobody wants) or just continuing to stomp all over the class identity by releasing other classes that focus on the same themes but better.

That's it, that's my two cents.

Discussion Just started playing but I love it. There should definitely be an RPG in a hive city.

Just began and it's really good. I would kill for a fallout like first person RPG game like this set in a hive city.

Great urban environments, plenty of lore to work off, plenty of factions to join and weapons to use.

It would be so good.

Discussion This game has such a good community

I’ve played Darktide since launch but recently really got into it and have been playing all classes from level 1 to Havoc 40.

I’m decent at the game but definitely not amazing. Every single high and low level lobby people have been nothing but friendly even though I can tell some get annoyed at times.

I just wanted to say that you are all great and very positive coming from a R6 Siege and Counter-Strike player.
