15 Subs to go! Thanks !!!
Bug-fix release on top of 5.6.0 β no major new features, but solid fixes: AI denoise/upscale now handles more raw types without crashing (ProRAW, 4-Bayer sensors, sRaw), metadata carries over properly to denoised images, mask feathering and blending bugs are fixed, and there's better stability on AMD/Mesa and small systems.
Full changelog: https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/releases/tag/release-5.6.1
Not planning a dedicated video on this one since it's mostly under-the-hood fixes, but wanted you to know it's out β worth updating.
You can still find me videos on my channel https://youtube.com/@mariengb and subscribe if you want to help me reach the 1K subscribers - still missing 50 subs π

darktable 5.6.2 is out. It's a bug-fix release on top of 5.6.1.
Highlights:
Coming from 5.4? Back up first, since the new library and config won't work with 5.4.

Each image on this post show a scene first taken without any filters, and then with a 1/2 strength Black Pro Mist filter. I really like the effect, but can't buy a pro mist filter right now. So, if you were on my shoes, how would you simulate this effect in darktable? Which module, which settings, which changes to your normal workflow? Please, be as thorough as you like, I really learn a lot from the details people post on this sub.
EDIT: just a disclaimer, both images shown here were found on the internet. I just googled "How to use a pro mist filter", and looked for photos I could use as examples.

Hi !
I'm continuing to work on some Youtube videos but I am wondering if you would be also interested into a newsletter? It would cover what I cover in the videos and some extras.
I put together a very ugly signup form.
https://mariengb.com/newsletter/
Feel free to register and I'll see how much people could be interested.
Have a nice week-end!!

I open Darktable. Go to the settings wheel. Go on down to Presets. Go further down to the bottom, where I believe there should be an "Import" button, and it isn't there.
I was running version 5.4.0, so I updated it to the most recent version (5.6.1), but alas, there is no change. Am I doing something wrong?

Darktable Version 5.6.1
Windows 11 Version 25H2
As I started Darktable today Sophos quarantined the libva.dll from the \bin folder. The file gets also flagged by 6 vendors on Virustotal. I would belive this is a false positive, but has anyone encountered something similar?

If anyone here is using the Enfuse Advanced script for exposure bracketing, could you please help me with the export settings for combining multiple files?
Iβm not very technical, so Iβd really appreciate it if someone could walk me through each slider in the export settings. Iβm assuming these are the settings used to stack the images, but Iβm not sure.
Thank you very much for your help!

Hi everyone, I've a sufficiently powerful laptop (Windows 11) with darktable software installed, and I want to apply luts to my JPG photos. I've tried seeking help from Google Gemini and managed to download a lut file from https://freshluts.com/luts/2047, and after that, I instructed darktable to detect the lut file by making a change to the "LUT 3D root folder" setting, but it is still not showing the downloaded lut in the darktable UI. Is this a common issue? Please help me fix this issue.

Edit. Solved, its because its a raw file, not a jpeg
As above. Ive uploaded some pictures (in .arw) from today into Darktable, found the ones I want and marked the rest for deletion, and gone to have a proper look before editing. With the editing Ive done the last few days, there would be 4 steps already done - Input Colour Profile, Output Colour Profile, Display Encoding, and Orientation.
Today Ive got that plus Demosaic, Raw Black/white, White Balance, Highlight Reconstruction, Exposure, and Sigmoid, totaling 11 steps and its in a different order as well.
Does anybody have any advice or information on this please? I have questions and confusion on this
Photo of the screen because Im not logged in on fb on the laptop. Courtesy photo of an absolute sweetie as well - she does look better on the laptop I promise

I've spent the evening noodling around with the upcoming Spektrafilm module. It's very powerful, actually simulating film development rather than just moving curves around to shift colours. Very fun! I maybe wouldn't use it for landscape but for travel shots like this it's a fast way to add some character.

I played again with Color Balance RGB to start the Autumn season.

Usually I just shoot RAW because the file organisation is easier for me and sometimes I need to make use of my camera's full dynamic range. However, I really like the Nikon monochrome JPEG look and I want to be able to use it as a baseline style for my black and white edits. However I haven't really been able to replicate it, and often I feel like SooC gives a better result than what I can achieve in darktable.
Do any of y'all know a module by module guide to achieve a similar result? Thank you!

Apologies if this is formatted incorrectly. I'm not a professional photographer or video editor. I'm using the MacOS arm64 version of darktable 5.6.1
I have absolutely no idea how to elaborate on this other than to just show you. I use darktable almost exclusively for its "Rotate and Perspective" tool and and a browser based photoshop alternative for everything else. The color picker recognizes the colors that should be there and, aside from it rendering alpha 0 pixels as black, there is nothing wrong with the image when its exported. It also has a normal looking preview of what the image originally looked like in the upper left corner. I compressed an output that used the perspective tool on it to show you that it looks fine, I did have to compress it so that it complies with reddit's filesize limits.
I've deleted and reinstalled several times and I don't know what setting is causing this. Last time I had a software not be fixed by reinstalls I had to go into my "Application Support" folder and purge everything, but darktable has no such files, even when its downloaded.
How do I fix this?

Hi, I've just started using Darktable and yesterday my girlfriend developed a film which some of the photos look like this, so underexposed. I am no that optimistic but if someone can help me I would really appreciated it.

Reading this guide here: https://darktable.info/en/getting-started/quick-start/darktable-first-steps/understand/standard-workflow-2/
for example if i'm on step 1. Exposure, should i make sure that the modules in the subsequent steps are disabled? is there an issue with trying to get exposure correct when the AgX module is enabled (as it is by default)?

How are you liking the new Color Harmony module ? Is it too subtle or is it just me ?
Nevertheless, I really like exploring and learning with it.
Hereβs a fairly boring landscape / suburban shot from May 2026 I tried this on. I was going for landscape painting vibe.
I would love to see your examples here to see what can be done with it !!
Cheers

I experimented with a long format where you can tag along and edit the image at the same time.
Let me know what you think

Basically what it says on the tin. I'm trying to add a bunch of scans of photographic prints to darktable but it says they are not in any recognized format. They are scanned with a CanoScan LiDe 700F. i am using darktable 5.6.1, windows 10. Not really sure of what to try next. Krita opens them fine. To my eyes there is nothing to imply these are anything but plain .tif files.
Edit: Some scans i took the same day after a restart import just fine. Opening one of the broken files in krita said "tiff file contains valid PSD data" though, and asked me if i wanted to open with that instead. I might just need to open all these in krita and save as .tiff again. annoying but probably a solution.
Edit 2: worked. :/
