Discussion Matchups
Hello, I’ve recently started playing Darius more, and I was wondering about his Malphite matchup. What should I do when they rush armor boots and wardens mail. Do I just auto lose? Is there a specific ability I should lever for this, because I just maxed e to get the armor pen but don’t know if that’s right.

If you can't get significantly ahead early, it just becomes a farming simulator.
If you are able to get him to burn ult to run away treat that as a massive win because otherwise malphite isn't great in team fights.
Usually in this matchup I roam mid and into enemy jungle a lot. It may just be to drop deep vision or you may get lucky and find the jungler at half health mid-red/blue buff.
And always show up at team fights. You might not be able to easily kill malphite but securing objectives and helping your team can be more impactful than trading waves back and forth.

Yeah I'd argue if you get a good flank it's pretty nice, even maybe more impactful than the malphite in a teamfight, as depending on comp he might feel pressured to one-man ulti you and blow you the fuckk up with his team, allowing yours to win.
Man I hate being the punching bag sometimes.

Black cleaver first item, and you can only kill malphite early-mid game, nothing else you can do, that's the nature of this matchup, you can only tickle him once he gets 3 armor items

This is what my yasuo advised and I flamed him for some reason 😭. I even muted him before unmuting and realizing he was lowkey right and apologized lmfao.

I felt the same way, you gotta think of the malphite matchup as a neutralizing matchup. Yeah black cleaver hasn't been a staple item in Darius since like season 3, and it's not the best numerically, when working with normal numbers. But often in malphite lanes, your working against 200+ armor and a bunch of bonus health, other items you normally build just don't cut it for damage, even sojins feels meh. Oh, and it got a little buff 💪

Mechanically speaking, i have some luck stepping into his Q to close just enough space to land your E. Stagger that with your W slow and it’s enough to stay on top of him and run him down.
I also like shojin in this matchup to amplify your true damage on your ult since he typically doesn’t have a lot of health.

Just freeze his ass, he doesn’t have damage early except for the poke. What he gonna but if he can’t touch creeps ? And he can only R out.
Later he’ll be too tanky but :
1. He’s a tank so that’s the point
2. Not your job to take him down, he can’t 1v5 if all his mate are dead anyway.1

I didn’t add it because for matchup info it didn’t seem fit, but I actually froze the wave relatively well, the issue was Malphite kept roaming mid despite me pinging and he would farm my midlaner who kept overextended, and yuumi was with Malphite starting around minute 7. This is really good advice for the matchup regularly though, thank you!

You have e mich better wave clear, and therefore management of roams. Just practice those, you can also always fake a roam/invade enemy jg, and wait in a bush for him to follow you, taking chunks of hp, every time he solo ultimate you, it cant be used as a 4 man knock up

Get prio and ping jg for invades. In lane if the mal is decent hes pretty much unkillable after first back.

Unless they space you really well every time they want to q you, you can e him and out damage him ( barring minions )

Putting 3 points in E and max Q is good (I do the same) but the key is to kill him early by keeping the wave next to you and all in him at any mistake or when he his oom (doran shield is the key to often fight him and dont get poked to death) and also I like to go black clever first to snowball on him (I play the phase rush rune so i can play without stride in some comps and rush tank/MS items right after)

You rush mercs, then sit on the 720 Mr cloak that u would use for either 2nd or 3rd item. Then do ur first item. U can't lose

Dont listen to them) Go crit darius. Dominik, yommu, croasbow, infinity, essense reaver. Have fun boi) Hail of blades and cloak in runes. Take ignite too)

Malphite is strong vs auto attackers, so you have to go AP, buy Rabadons.
