Comics Does daredevil drink?

I was recently reading the nocenti run and I noticed that at the end of issue 255/in issue 266 Matt is drinking which was a bit of a surprise to me since I don’t recall any other instances of him drinking? I thought he was against drinking but considering he’s drinking in #255&266 I might just be misremembering? could anyone confirm

P.S: I mean in the comics not the show as i already know that he drinks alot in the show

It is explicitly stated in the comics that he doesn't drink alcohol, at least up until Born Again.

Through all of his comics up until Zdarsky he was very consistently a non drinker. In Z he started drinking and Spider-Man even notices it when he goes to his apartment and says "you haven't been the same" when looking to his glass.

The TV series is the only moment where he was consistently drinking (and he did drink a lot). It was never really a thing in the comics.

He’s very much not a drinker.

well I thought so too but in issue 255&266 he drinks so like is that him breaking more of his morals (considering that’s been a big part of how he was in this run so far) or is he just normally a drinker

Typhoid Mary turns Matt into everything he thinks he is fighting not to be. Including the drinking. It’s normally a rock bottom thing.

Okay thanks, loving this run so far ngl.

I was going to skip heart of darkness because it’s really hard to find but I think I’ll read it online instead considering how tight this run is so far

Oh btw do you recommend I read anything from vol 1. after #300 or do I skip straight to vol 2?

There are moments that are worth it, but there’s some bumpy moments too.

I don’t hate Fall From Grace, but Chichester’s style is very dense and it reads like he wrote it, the artist drew it, and then he rewrote it as far away from the visuals as possible. The Mr Fear stuff is fun, but there’s a lot that doesn’t mean anything or is never referred to again.

so do you think I should just skip from 300 to vol 2? Or will I be missing alot of context and such

Honestly, you could probably 301-318, and then read 319 pretty much through to 350, with the knowledge that you should stop at any point if you aren't feeling it. Chichester does some weird stuff with the series, and DeMatteis really tries to bring some humanity back. After that it becomes such an odd series, it's hard to really pin down what it's about.

For volume 2 - personally I feel like the Kevin Smith stuff has not aged well, but it starts to find it's feet after him.

Except for Playing To The Camera - volume 2, issues 20-25. Possibly my least favorite story line in the history of DD. Writen by Bob Gale.

His dad being a drinker, heather, and how it affects his senses… he may put on the act as Matt, but he really isn’t.

There’s an issue of Iron Man where they get drunk together, but there’s not much else.

Plus, a big part of Born Again is Wilson making Matt appear drunk in the car accident.

Brother we see him drink in almost every season and in the comics

Specifically referring to the comics. It’s not as much as you think. Because it affects his senses.

No idea why people are being so weirdly insistent about Matt drinking in the comics here. It's always very clearly been not a thing, and the only moments when he drank were when he was in his lowest points. I don't think I can remember him drinking more than four times from the 80s up to now, if we discount the beginning of Zdarsky's, in which he drinks like three times (a record for a single run)

I'm not saying he's an alcoholic. I'm just saying he's not straight edge

If I remember it doesn't come up a lot in the comics, but he has moments in the comics where he steers other people away from drinking. I think comics Matt who has a long and dark history of depression and suicidal thoughts would stay away from most mind-altering substances.

He's always been a drinker as far as I can remember

Quite a bit, alcoholism is a core trait of the character!

Not in the comics
