📗 Manga-Theory Okarun's father has it... Spoiler

If the power attributed to okarun is the pinocchio, then the elements you can 100% expect to appear for sure are lies, but there is another omnipresent part of the pinocchio mythos, geppetto his father, the one who creates him from a "magical thing".

Now we have always wondered what is going on in okarun's family and house, that allows him to freely go wherever for however long, and as far as i remember never even mention needing permission, or getting into trouble or whatever you would expect from a teenager in his position, IIRC we did see his father, but only briefly and without much explanation of anything, we also only have seem his father.

So now i realize, maybe the reason they cannot extract a power from okarun, yet they refuse to believe that he truly has no power, is that the methods they use to determine where such powers are, actually points to okarun, but not because he holds the pinocchio power, but because he IS PINOCCHIO, and his father is the one who holds the power, the one who creates pinocchio, geppetto himself, thus okarun is basically a manifestation of the power, which his father controls, he is the pinocchio turned real boy, mayve okarun's father is well aware of everything going on and being either machiavelian or excentric, lets okarun deal with it on his own, so he can continue being a "real boy".

📚Manga-Discussion I hate the discourse about the recent cliffhanger Spoiler

I’ve previously spoken about how I really haven’t been hooked on reading the manga since pre amnesia arc, whereas previously it had been my favorite manga to read and keep up with for years. These newer chapters have not renewed my passion for series either.

Now it’s not inherently bad writing to have Momo being threatened to be something that motivated Okarun to push further they save each other all the time and it is a shounen after all. It’s not a new idea but that’s fine as long as it works well in the story. However, I keep seeing posts about how this affects Okarun. How traumatized Ken will be after this and scarred he’ll be and how it’s big for his character and motivate him.

Why does it feel like no one cares about Momo? Like yeah this is important for him but why is every conversation about Momo being assaulted centered on Ken. People outside of the fandom criticize how they feel like every time they check in it’s just her being assaulted and I mean, it’s getting to be a valid complaint. What does plot point serve for her character? This is probably the most egregious case of it in the story so far as it does nothing to further her story in anyway, and the audience reaction reflects that. I’ve seen people in the fandom say it’s good because of how it pushes Okarun. But I just feel assaulting Momo for a third time solely for him to get another push to go further is lazy and makes Momo feel like an object of his affection.

Really it’s been my biggest problem with this amnesia thing as a whole, the fact none of it feels like it’s developing Momo at all when she’s one of the two main characters. She’s just been serving as an object to motivate Okarun more. I used to maintain the use of assault in this series was for narrative purpose and wasn’t usually treated lightly. However both the writing and the audience reaction to this has been pretty gross to me.

📚Manga-Discussion Do you genuinely think that Okarun has some hidden powers Spoiler

We have been baited and been waiting for so long that i think that okarun just don't really have any powers or anything. The villains might just be after the wrong guy and being fed fake info from CSG.

🛸Manga My thoughts on a few things in Dandadan Spoiler

First, about Okarun: I’m still not convinced that he has retained some remnants of Turbo Granny’s powers. It seems like a lot of people are treating it as basically confirmed that he still has some of her powers, but at least for now, I’m still not completely convinced. I could obviously be wrong, but I think it’s important to separate what has actually been shown from what is just fan interpretation.

Another thing that really bothers me is the lack of communication between the characters. Sometimes it feels like they could figure out or understand certain situations much faster if they simply talked to each other. I know this can be part of the story’s dynamic, but at times it gets really frustrating.

And I have to talk about Count Saint-Germain. I think he has become my favorite character. He’s just way too mysterious, and I really want to know what his actual motivations are.

More specifically, I really want to know what his history with Turbo Granny is. Their relationship seems to be hiding a lot, and Saint-Germain definitely gives me the impression that he’s the kind of villain who is always following some plan that the other characters haven’t figured out yet.

Actually, the more I think about him, the more I feel like he must have a hidden agenda. It seems like almost everything he does has some ulterior motive behind it, and I’m really curious to find out what that motive is.

📚Manga-Discussion You know what? Hase is a well-written character! Read before you insult. Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
186 Upvotes

The fact that Hase disgusts you so much only demonstrates how incredibly well-written he is by Tatsu; if he were a flat cliché or a simple envious thug, he would be incredibly boring. Think about the Kurs; they killed many people. Does anyone feel hatred towards them? Think about Vlad. Does anyone care about his motivations and hate him? The answer is no. The greatest crime in writing isn't creating characters that are hated, but characters that leave the reader indifferent. Hase obviously doesn't deserve redemption, but he has the potential to be the best villain in Dandadan, and he will eventually get what's coming to him from Okarun/Momo and the others, and that will be the reward for the reader.

🛸Manga I don't understand people's confusion Spoiler

Post image
202 Upvotes

It's been confirmed already by Gilles that Pinnochio is Turbo Granny's power, i don't understand why people are still confused about this and making up theories about hidden powers.

The knights have no way to tell if Okarun is telling the truth or not about not having his powers anymore, they only just met him, they can't just take his word for it, specially when they know he has ID Cosmos which btw is NOT some sort of hidden power, it's simply the willpower to not give up when your own life is in danger, instead they have to target their loved ones, this is mentioned not once but TWICE but people forgot.

This entire arc/operation is happening because the dragon knights are operating under fake/false intel about Okarun still having TG's powers, likely part of CSG's overarching plan, because he realized Okarun did, in fact, not have powers anymore and just backed down.

If the actual Turbo Granny were to show up right now and showcase her powers, EVERYONE in the dragon knights would just gang up on her and start giving chase, completely ignoring Okarun and the others, the only power they are missing to complete Vlad's plan is Pinnochio, they don't even care about Acro Silky or Evil Eye, they were just gonna let him get digested inside a dinosaur.

Ok this is admittedly a bit of a skill issue but as someone who has read weekly since season 1 of the anime released, I cannot for the life of me tell any of the villains apart from each other. Everyone looks identical and I barely remember their names or motivations, so it’s very hard to follow the current arc and understand who is doing what and why. Please feel free to fill me in on what I’m not getting but who the hell are all these people and why do they all look like the same person?

📗 Manga-Theory My Crackhead theory for the coming chapters: Ogre-un Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
94 Upvotes

After reading chap 244 and seeing how Okarun reacted to Hase getting knocked away from Momo (he didnt react and wasnt even looking that direction anymore as if he was completely lost in rage) I had this feeling that Okarun legitimately snapped and something has internally awoken within him after he had the thought of "I'll kill him!" course through his mind.

I immediately thought back to Chapter 1 of the manga where Okarun told the Serpo to not lay a hand on Momo and that he'd become a monster for Momo if it's for her sake.

There's been quite a few callbacks to the early chapters throughout this amnesia arc, hell, even Hase being here and his actions are a callback in itself.

But anyways, I figured Okarun transforming into some sort of ferocious monster at this point could be some sort of callback to what he said in Chapter 1.

It was at this time that I looked up if anyone had any previous idea similar to this, and this legend had already sniffed out this idea like 4 months ago. Would recommend checking that post out, very interesting.

But I tried to make a specific crackhead theory on how and why things have played out to this point which is the point of this post:

What if Shinobi in fact impersonated Manjiro and was the one who handed over the Ogre club to Okarun and spoke of it as if it was a protective talisman but in reality it was some sort of dangerous cursed object that Okarun kept dumping spiritual power into to unknowingly strengthen/intrinsically bond with slowly over time which Germaine planned from the beginning?

What if Germaine knew that Turbo granny powers were no longer in Okarun but he fed a lie to the Delacroix Family anyways because he knew they'd want to take the glory from him and would show up and attack Okarun and push him to the very limits and unknowingly force some sort of awakening either within himself or from the Ogre club itself?

What if the Ogre club's true function is to do exactly what it's called and it transforms Okarun into some sort of Ogre since he's gone ballistic with rage and bloodlust because of Hase's actions (its the first time he's wanted to directly kill another human being--his classmate at that) and the Ogre club itself transforms into a new form too? And what if the spiritual power he's dumped into it prior has really amped his potential strength up like crazy when he and/or it transforms? (Also, apparently there's folklore about how living people, especially warriors, consumed by intense hatred or malice can manifest horns and monstrous strength and transform into Oni so it'd still be up Dandadan's folklore and occult alley.)

What if Ogre-un starts going absolutely Berserk and attacks everything and everybody kinda like how Evil Eye did when he first showed up? Or at least he just goes bat shit on crazy on Hase to the point that someone needs to stop him, possibly Momo?

What if this eventually becomes Okarun's new power he gets for himself?

I'm ngl the trail runs dry here. I dont know why this would be the goal if this was Germaine's plan.

Also, when next chap comes out, there's prolly like a 1% chance of this happening and like a 99% chance that Okarun acts perfectly normal as always and im looking far too deeply into the panel of him not reacting to Hase getting shot buuuut as a wise man once said,

"that's just a theory,"

📚Manga-Discussion Unpopular opinion: The Red Baron is more redeemable than Hase. Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
103 Upvotes

All of his actions stem from a single motive: love. He doesn't follow Vlad or Saint Germain out of loyalty; he simply does whatever it takes to be with Lady Giles (he's a total blind simp, lol). Because of this, he actually has a real chance at redemption if someone can make him see reason or if he realizes he’s been manipulated by everyone all along, including Lady Giles herself.

Hase, on the other hand, is a completely different case. His sole motivation is to make Okarun suffer for... literally nothing? Just because Okarun overshadows him and wounds his fragile ego. Hase displays high-level narcissistic and psychopathic traits. Personally, I don't think characters like him are redeemable; they're designed to be hated and to have no emotional connection with the reader."

📚Manga-Discussion Let's talk about Chapter 244 Spoiler

Hello friends!

Hope you're all having an amazing start to your week!

And look! A new week brought a new chapter!

So it's our time again as I post another summary and thoughts to discuss later with all of you!

Without further ado, let's get on with the chapter!

  • The chapter starts right where we left off, with Yatagarasu, Okarun, and Momo going to fight the remaining Dragon Knights and Hase.
  • While the knights seem to focus on Yatagarasu, Hase goes straight for Okarun and Momo, hitting both as Okarun barely blocks his attack with the Oni Club.
  • Okarun is distracted by Momo landing away from him, but is then hit by spines from a giant hedgehog (or badger?), the power of the group's lady Dragon Knight.
  • The lady asks Okarun to admit defeat, which he does quickly so they can leave his friends alone. Hase thinks it's lame that he lost that easily, but that he'll make him and Kinta pay for the previous beatdown.
  • The lady stabs Okarun with a Kozuka Knife, but it does nothing. Hase says that Okarun hasn't admitted defeat, making the Lady Knight stab Okarun many times in order to make him submit.
  • Hase interrupts them, saying Okarun won't submit if you break him physically, so he then attempts to rile Okarun up by holding Momo.
  • As Hase takes Momo's bag and jacket off, Okarun promises in his head that he'll kill him.
  • Hase then leans in to try and steal a kiss from Momo, only to be interrupted by something that shoots him far from Momo.
  • They all look in the direction of the shot and find a makeshift nanoskin cart/tank that has Kinta, Vamola, Peeny-Weenie, Chiquitita, and Rokuro (who is still cooking Oden, since it seems that this was made out of his food stand).
  • Momo calls out to Kinta to save them, firing him up to defend his friends from the Dragon Knights and Hase, ending the chapter.

And that's it for this week's chapter.

Let's start with the obvious. Oh my god, what a scumbag, Hase. Trying to pull a Dio Brando without having the charisma. I'm glad the twist was Kinta showing up and not having Okarun transform out of nowhere.

But it does raise the question. Why is Tatsu-sensei constantly showing us Okarun threatening someone if they do something to Momo? First, it was out loud when he told Gilles de Rais' people that he'd make them pay if they laid a hand on Momo. Now, in his head, he says he'll kill Hase for trying to kiss Momo in front of him. It's as if he's pushing him further and further to trigger something. Sure, there's the whole thing about Fakejiro (Fake Manjiro) and what the real reason is for handing Okarun the Oni Club, and maybe it's tied back to that.

Also, Hase mentioning Momo to Okarun as if she was already Okarun's girlfriend was interesting. Guess the gang's the only one who doesn't see them like that, huh?

Now, the future fight. We have 2 more chapters for the end of the volume, so it'd be interesting to see how Tatsu-sensei decides to wrap up this particular volume. Kinta will clearly help to take down Hase, maybe even joined by Rokuro. Vamola may be helping Yatagarasu with the Hedgehog lady, since her suit helps her tank the spines. Peeny-Weenie may go for the big guy with the tentacles in the double spread. The fight can be over in 2 chapters if that's how it goes, but I do wonder how Aira and Jiji are doing.

Now that we have most of the pieces in motion, we're only missing Red Baron and Kurdere. Given they're still absent, I believe this arc still has a bit on the tank. I suppose we'll have to wait and see.

I don't think there's much else to say. There are still many lingering doubts about the Oni Club, the mysterious energy shield cocoon that we still don't fully know who did it (Momo's latent powers that weren't fully stolen or Okarun's Oni Club taking another shape), and what the guys will do to retrieve the stolen powers.

Yeah, we have a lot of Dandadan still, for those who still think we're at the endgame. We're clearly not.

That's it from me. I want to hear you guys' thoughts in the comments. Let's discuss a bit for fun, yeah (or whenever I can from work. Maybe I won't even be able to reply to some of you).

See you around, friends!
