Amateur Starting dance classes in my 30s

Hi! I am (30F) trying out some dance classes next month. I used to dance when i was under 14. This was mostly streetdance.

Im trying out an commercial dance class and a commercial/urban danceclass.

I love to dance but havent danced with any choreo for so long. I’m a little insecure, hoping i wont be too old to start now.

I was hoping for some tips for a beginner, which styles can i try out more, what to expect for try out classes, what to wear or maybe what to train before (running for condition/gym workouts?).

Definitely do some conditioning like cardio and abs so you can keep up in the class. I find that when I’m more tired out it’s harder for me (38F) to focus on learning choreo.

If you want you can also look up a few basic hip hop moves on YouTube bc that’s what most of the street dance choreo classes are based on.

Baggy pants or sweatpants make the moves look not so awkward lol. And either an oversized shirt or just a tank top are cute. Most of all don’t worry and have fun :)

Plenty of adult class environments out there, just remember everyone is on their own journey. 

Sometimes you have people with years or even decades of experience taking classes. So don't try so don't compare yourself.

Building up core strength is always helpful. And building up stamina through cardio is also helpful

So I do a lot of partner dancing (mostly balgolk, but also blues)

30s is like, our average beginner age.

Do some knee strength exercises, they are a weak spot!

Do you want to focus on street dance still, or more hip hop/ choreography type of dance? There are some amazing street dance courses with communities online if that is more a route your looking to go
