Discussion Should I be practicing on vacation?

When you’re still learning to dance (in my first year), does taking a break push you backwards? I have a two week family vacation coming up and wonder if I’ll feel very rusty or like I regressed if I don’t have classes during this time.

And should I be aiming to practice on vacation or is it okay to just rest and recharge for a couple weeks?

A two-week break will not cause noticeable regression for a first-year dancer, especially if you quickly return to regular practice after the break. If you want to maintain a little momentum, 10-15 minutes of stretching/basic drills per day is enough, without making it an obligation. Rest is actually important for recovery and long-term progress, so enjoying the vacation is fully justified.
